#Babylon (the movie, not the location)

One of the parts I really liked was when Manny made it back with the camera just in time for last light, but Brad Pitt's character was so drunk he barely made it up the hill for the final shot. I really thought it was gonna go along the lines of "never meet your heroes", but when Action was called, he immediately went into the role & did the scene perfectly
loved the way it solidified Manny's desire to be a part of that whole world
Love that whole scene, especially as it looks gorgeous.
My favourite is definitely the first sound recording scene with Nellie. So funny, but also so illuminating about how the process of making a movie works
The scene with the snake was absolute chaos. Her getting her dad to fight it, cut to him lying in the ground passed out, then she's screaming at everybody then she goes and lifts the snake. Then it biting her on the neck.
Brad Pitt getting hit by the car, was absolute chaos
Yes that was insane, really good fucking tension
Also fucking insane, chaotic you might say
You did actually say
I do think they could have cut the entire Tobey Maguire section though. I know it’s crucial to the ending and Nellie’s fate, and it’s so weird and interesting. But I think it really distracts from the core of the movie.
Yes, I was gonna say that part was the only time the movie got closest to losing me. It's a good thing I fucking loved Manny so much, so when the revelation came it was fake cash, I really worried about him
I thought it was interesting that Samara weaving played the character that Margot Robbie stole the limelight from. Just because they get compared to each other so much in real life, both being Australian and looking so alike etc
I’ve watched it 3 times now and last time I actually just jumped over that whole sequence to see how the movie worked without it, and I think it’s an improvement.
Oh I didn't know that, that's a cool bit of trivia
I did like Tobey Maguire in it, I feel like he suits that era so well. Great Gatsby etc. But he looked crazy and played it well
As soon as brad Pitts character had that chat with the gossip lady, ya know about how his time was over. The cockroach monologue.. I thought to myself yeah he's gonna kill himself, then as soon as he started walking up the stairs in that hotel I just knewwww it was about to happen
I was really hoping he listened to what she told him
It's crazy because I never really thought about all that before. Silent movie actors trying to transition into acting with their voice
I feel like I need to rewatch all over again but it was fuckin 3 hours long
I'm gonna rewatch it soon because it's been a while, might try @prime gorge 's trick at the one part, cut it a little shorter that way, but it's definitely a commitment
I was so sad for Manny at the end, he throws everything away for Nellie after living the American dream
Then she fucks off into the night
Yeah that was still kind of unexpected to me, the way/point she did it at, it was clear she was stringing him along a little bit there but didn't expect it to end so abruptly. I guess it adds to the feeling that Manny must've felt in that moment
I suppose I could rewatch in shifts. An hour at a time
Also the start with the elephant hahaha
Ohhhhh noooo I had actually forgotten that you know, on second thought I'm gonna wait with the rewatch

I think in a few weeks I will stick it back on in the afternoons after limmys stream.
I'll just watch it in parts, so maybe pause it after the big party scene at the start when Nellie drives off with that car , that's probably a good 45 mins into it
Yes omg I forgot to say, I laughed when the word Babylon came on screen, as if I had just watched the intro but the movie had been on for like 40 minutes at this stage
Yeah it was a bit disheartening when I saw that haha, but also really got me wondering if that was the intro, what else they had in store for the rest of it
& do wanna mention the soundtrack, out of all the iterations of that one repetitive (in a good way) brass melody, my favourite was the track called "Call me Manny", it played after him & Nellie met again in that office & it went into this kind of montage-y bit, still play that to pump myself up if I need it
