Going to listen shortly, excited to see what they have to say about this movie.

The first time our kaiju appears on screen in this one is mighty impressive

We watched this a few weeks ago and loved it. The history and care that went into the movie was palpable. Followed it up with Godzilla x Kong and wow that was jarring.

Different challenge, environment and horror each time.

Might have missed something watching the movie a month ago but I thought the woman he met after the war wasn't his girlfriend. There are conversations they have where he talks about finding a wife and starting a life of his own. I don't even think that his her child. The impression I got was that they had a 'found' family type situation and I thought that was pretty cool after all of the death and destruction of the war. It took him the whole movie to realize that he already had what he was looking for in some sense.

Loved this movie!

I missed my chance to see this when it was in theaters and really regret that. It was still enjoyable at home, but the scale of the monster probably had a much greater effect on a big screen.

On why it was so cheap: I'm not sure the economics of Japanese movies scale evenly to Hollywood productions. They don't have the same labor laws over there, for example. Not that the effects work isn't impressive; it is!

Shocked at their take on the family element as boring

Visually it must've helped that the movie's director pulled double duty as the VFX Supervisor.
It had to have cut down the communication between both positions as compared to other productions

“-poisoned by Godzilla cells” 🤣

Really enjoyed the episode but was kinda bothered by the cryptocurrency ads on the UK version: anyone else get these?!

Shin Godzilla is the best modern Godzilla movie.

When the Godzilla theme drops, it's incredible.

As a lifelong godzilla fan. I can without a doubt say this is the best Godzilla movie. A true test of a movie is when the human drama is actually engaging when the firebreathing dinosaur isn't on screen, that in itself is a miracle.

#

Shin Godzilla is also great. Characters aren't dramatically compelling, but the satire of government handling juxposition with a horrific looking godzilla is amazing.

Just watched it. It's a pretty good movie. The monster effects are obviously good, but I also enjoyed the human drama.

I got a little misty.

Wow I didn’t think I’d like this but I WAS WRONG! The last 30 minutes were incredible movie making. I can’t believe a Godzilla film made me cry?!

Yeah. That's why I can't fault them for picking movies that likely won't make the list. You get gems like this that I wouldn't watch otherwise.

As a godzilla fan, this movie passes high flying colors of making me care what's going on when godzilla is not on screen.

To bring up a broader topic. I always found it interesting that Japan usually avoids the brutal occupation of Asia in their media.

They wrote it as to have the veteran characters far away from the position of occupying china, korea, and other nations.

It's still a heated topic today where Japan has officially not apologized nor acknowledged the war crimes committed. China and Korea are very vocal about the trauma and plunder that has not been acknowledged or recognized.
