#Do NOT add the dodge mechanic
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Thats like a recoil hack in fps games
And game itself added that ,thats the worse side
+1 dodge don't help newbies, only veterans to be immortals.
Gameplay is not natural anymore.
Don't like this. This will annoy me. It's not natural.
Whats wild to me is they already had a dodge mechanic, it just wasn't a cheesy hotkey. You actually had to be good to effectively dodge. If you where slippery it was annoying to try to kill you and you where probably good at the game. Now you can be slippery just because you press a key.
It doesn't add any depth to the gameplay. It doesn't add any reason to master the controls.
I’m dreading this update so far but I’m going to keep an open mind. Or try too. I still think a barrel roll would be cool…smashing into a wall with a cool animation 😂
Wasnt braking, turning, then boosting able to effectively "dodge" projectiles. I feel like century rewards flight positioning and reflex by using that and being able to lead fireballs to hit terrain. I often enjoyed having to think quick and evade projectiles by altering my course and make new ones. The dodge mechanic feels counter intuitive at best considering this
I dont do much ranked so I cant speak from experience about how this would shift metas. But really Im just against this being an I-Frame button. The reason I like the current dodge methods is because evasive maneuvers have always felt fast paced and tense, trying to shake off the other person. But Im worried that this would allow someone to just brake, dodge, then instantly be put into a better position than the original pursuer. Its a scenario that feels less dragon riding and more mechanics abusing
If the purpose is to help new players learn to get better. Why not spend some time creating practice scenarios that teaches players to make tight turns or to block fireballs with terrain?
I'm reading "add dodge mechanic"
-Im applying to join playwing
Setting up some tutorial levels to teach new players how to dodge effectively is better than adding this strange dodge mechanism. This new dodge mechanism, whether it is the mechanism itself or the dodge animation, is so rigid and makes new players dependent. Delaying them from learning the dodges they should really master, losing acceleration in flight is the problem.
Part of the fun of Century is learning how to properly dodge. Can't tell ya how many times I've dodged a full marauder combo and felt so good watching every projectile miss because of intense wiggles. This just seems like a lazy way to make dodging easier for hatchies that benefits vets more than the target demographic.
The matchmaking should be sorted by skill pts.
Anyway I didn't spend months practicing how to dodge effectively only to have the game do it for me
it said the animation was lacking and bad and that dodge will only make the game harder for newbies
it was worded too agressively I guess. Mods have had it with us being mean to them so they just delete any suggestion worded agressively

Now I agree about being disrespectful about it. I have been nothing but respectful to the devs and CM but they need to learn how to accept constructive criticism. There will be a backlash at times they need to practice handling that backlash properly. That's how you make a game the game it is. What's frustrating is that the higher-ups aren't listening to the feedback from the community.
they don't want to hear it, they just make the shit even bigger
The flight mechanics already integrated into the game have been handled well. It was one of the main draws for me; being able to maneuver the skies effortlessly, while staying grounded in the true physics of flight created such a sense of awe, freedom, power. A sense that you really could be riding this fantastic creature. An unprecedented level of depth, and attention to detail, that made it extremely fun to just jump in and fly. That’s how you draw users into your world, that’s how escapism is done. It has to feel natural.
But now.. Having this awful, jerky animation of it sliding to the left or right.. It entirely destroys both physics AND any sense of immersion and feels incredibly hamfisted and gross.
It also removes any level of skill required to maneuver the skies tactfully. Between shoving lore and progression to the background and bringing P2W and simplified mechanics to the forefront, it’s clear this game is not what most people were initially excited about and is turning out to be nothing more than a mindless P2W arcade shooter. No sense of progression, no sense of skill, no sense of reward. Absolutely no fun. Disappointing.
Actually that wasnt the reason at all, its that I had the same name as someone else and I got banned on accident and that automatically deletes my posts within the last 24-48hs
Nobody cares about aggressiveness as long as it isnt targetted towards someone or insulting anybody in particular
But yeah the post showed a gif of the dodge mechanic more importantly
As well as explaining a number of reasons as to why it is an awful idea atm
Ah I see I see. I didn't know you got nuked -wheeze

Yeah but it was like, literally a 5min nuke before the ban was lifted, honest mistake
Just sad all my posts got nuked tbh, I actually put thought into them all
Tis not just angery
honestly....i think dodge has a place....In PVE
I just hope they fine tune the animation
the animation is weird, it doesn’t achieve what the devs were intending (for it to be easier for noobs), and no one asked for it. So why is it a thing?
It doesn't have an animation, that's the funniest part
Literally just shoves your character to the side and nullifies the fireballs rly
Bc one day there was this little nooblet that didn't even have 5hs of gameplay that posted in the old suggestions channel that they should have a dodge mechanic
No explanation or anything, kid just waltzed in here to drop that
And these developers have a history of listening to the worst people they could probably listen to. Just like how they listened to hackers during the release of the PvE game mode, and proceeded to roll an update to make it harder for everyone, despite the game mode being CLEARLY bugged in Madness difficulty, and thus unachievable unless you hacked, and the backlash was so bad, they ended up realising they had just catered to hackers, had to ban them permanently from the game + community, and had to roll back the update.
Some 200IQ bullshit basically...
-200*
Going to be the contrarian and disagree, the flight mechanics have never felt natural and I think a side dodge could help alleviate some of the stodgyness of how the dragons control. What would be better would be a future overhaul of the flight mechanics as a whole, at the very least it still really needs some basic tweaking.
The flight mechanics are fine as they are though?
Their peak was during the second Beta actually (which is why you'll see some people with the #BetaWasBetter tag) because flight mechanics felt smooth and fun, with a slight drift that made the fast paced gameplay actually fun and enjoyable, because if you're good enough dodging fireballs is super easy, if you dedicated more than 5hs to learn the game.
It's something you have to learn to be good at. It really doesn't need to be changed because Century is sitting in a very precarious balance as it is, and if anything the Betas taught us, is that they're drifiting from the core of the game and that's what's destabilizing things and throwing it into the void
A dodge mechanic basically kills 50% of what makes this game fun, which is learning how to play and keeping your skills sharp (such as being a wiggly dragoneer! that way you'll live longer!).
Hence why I can't really agree with that, as objective as I'm trying to be
It's as ridiculous as if they got rid of recoil in a competitive game such as R6 Siege
To try and put things into perspective
Although ultimately we'll see how this plays out, but general consesus is that, it's just gonna be detrimental in every single front:
New players won't learn the game because they'll have a cheese mechanic that only forces them to learn stamina management, but not how to actually fly well
Old players will easily learn how to exploit this mechanic on top of other already easily exploited ones: turn fighting, consumable abuse due to their ridiculously low respawn timer (this is specially bad in SoW, making players hoarding 2K gold impossible to kill), obvious map knowledge, no wall damage = abusing crashing into them for quick turns, etc...
I don't know why I have to say this but with the current picture, I don't even want to see the impact on SoW of both the new ridiculous 4v4 system + dodge mechanic + consumables it's just going to be the easiest game for veterans ever.
And not boasting here, but I'm a veteran myself and I refuse to play a spoonfed game, specially when there's nothing to gain from it. I loved Century because it was challenging. Now the only challenges we'll have is either Vets abusing the game even more than they already did, or newbies getting absolutely floored.
Where's the fun in that?
(Sorry for the wall of text btw
)
if they dont change how dodge looks, i dont even wanna play bc if thats the route they're going (not even bothering to animate flight) i may as well play roblox games
thats what makes me the saltiest....the dodge is ugly and unnatural and unanimated.
Coulda had it where they flap agressively to the right or left...but no. its just a slide....awful.
