can anyone tell me how 1-2x greater then or equal to 0 is to the left and not right?

#

Like yk howthe squiggley line is to the left, i thought if its greater then or equal it will always be to the right?

So first

#

1 - 2x >= 0 right

#

-1 from both sides

#

-2x >= -1

#

Now, to get x you need to divide by -2. EVERYTIME you divide by a NEGATIVE, the inequality symbol changes round

#

So
x <= 1/2

#

Which is the squiggly line

sage aspen
#

one more thing

#

could you put this in word form?

#

is it x is less then 2 and less then 4?

#

@prime compass

X is greater than 2 and less than 4

sage aspen
#

what if its 4>x>6

#

is that x is less then x and greater then 6

#

?

final kiln
#

This would not be written that way because if x is greater than 6 it cannot be less than 4. Instead you would write 2 separate inequalities

#

In this case it would be x<4 U x>6, where U is the Union

It could be any number that is greater than 6 and any number that is less than 4

#

Like this

That's okay. It only has to satisfy one of the inequalities as it's the union

#

essentially you have two lines, y = 0 (the x axis) and y = 1- 2x

#

1-2x is above y = 0

#

when x <= 1/2

sage aspen
#

can u explain to me how y=0 is the x axis?

final kiln
#

If we look at the graph at y=0

#

We can see it is simply the x-axis

sage aspen
#

hmmm

#

y=0

#

thats straight down the y axis cutting through (0,0) right?

final kiln
#

The line y=5 for example would be a horizontal line from (0,5) to infinity

sage aspen
#

yup

#

ohhhhh

#

soooo y=0 is basically the x axis?!

#

right?

final kiln
#

Yes

sage aspen
#

ohh i seeee

#

broo icl ur explaining is ten ten

sage aspen
final kiln
#

Also yes

sage aspen
#

thankss

sage aspen
#

could u explain this?

#

how is is x<-3 or x>3

final kiln
#

When it says (x+3)(x-9)>0 it is referring to the points on the curve that are above the x-axis

#

If you look at the curve like is draw in the image, it is above the x-axis when x is less than -3 and when x is greater than 3
