#Determine area and lengths using coordinate geometry
34 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
if you rearrange the first equation you can find the y-intercept and you already have it for the second one which is -3, find the difference between that and that is the length of your base
and from your point P to the y intercept, you know it’s 5 since the x value is 5, and that’s your height of your triangle
@inland lantern your coordinate for P is wrong
when you substitute in x - 3
it becomes 2(x-3) + x = 12
not 2x -3 + x = 12
its meant to be 2x - 6 + x = 12
so x is 6
not 5
Oh my bad thanks
The y intercept would be -6? And then I do 1/2 times -6 times 6
Oh wait
Times -3
y-intercept isn’t -6, it’ll be positive since it’s greater than 0
It’s 12/2 which is 6
Ye
so the difference between. 6 and -3?
3
not quite
like the whole length
-9 my bad
Because that’s your base of the triangle
So 9
Ya
So it’ll be 1/2 x 9 x 6
And what about for the length do I add them together
This is AS level right?
you would use the formula
A level ye
yh, use the above formula to find length
Alright cool man thanks for the help
