Have you done the discriminant yet?
don't forgot to give the answer as a range
y do we have to put (3x-2) into x^2 + y^2 = r^2
eventho it says that line doesnt touch the circle
and how do we know when to use the discriminant
If it tells you how many times something intersects
Your probably going to use the discriminant
words like "tangent"
etc
y is it b^2 - 4ac < 0
i was told if it was <0 for a discriminant then it means there are 0 real solutions
and > 0 is for 2 real solutions
oh ok thanks
if the line doesn't touch the circle
there are 0 solutions
so is it - root 4/10 < r < root 4/10
but the radius can't be negative tho
so what would the range be
0<r<root 4/10 i belive
is that a differant question?
yh
the answer to part a of this question is ( x + 5)^2 + 11
and it says b) hence, show why this has no real roots
