#gcse probability - question b

i think u do (1/3)^24 for a
textbook questions are worded in the worst possible way
ever
I really really hate this but I think I got it
omg
Okay so it cost the person 50p to play, so every time someone plays the fete gets 50p
yes
The chance of a person winning is 3/12 = 1/4, and whenever someone wins they get £1
So, on average, the fete has to pay £1/4 = 25p per go
So their average profit would be what they get minus what they have to pay on average
so 50p - 25p = 25p
As someone who also does further maths that's a fucking stupid question
im so confused
ive spent half an hour going back to it and trying to figure it out
i think ive got it
Because if someone wins the fete has to pay them £1, and as the probability of someone winning is 1/4 the fete on average has to pay 1/4 * £1
for every 4 games you win once theoretically,
so she pays 4 x 50p = £2
and wins £1 so
£2-£1 = £1
so you win £1 on average every 4 games
so £1 / 4 = 25p
I mean that's another way of doing it
does that make sense
yeahhhhh
some scammy game
