expand the 2 brackets
and find out where a and b would be in the quartic equation
then you would vietas formula for quartic equations to find the corresponding value
after simplifying
for example, if B is what makes up 3x^ 3then we can use -b/a to find out
oh its a fm thing
i do fm but i havent heard of it yet
uno
roots of a quadratic
like uno in a quadratic equation
ax^2 + bx+ c
the bx is the sum of the 2 roots
which can be found by doing -b/a
u heard of that?
oh
when i look at the question polynomials instantly come to me
what chapter is that question form
wait y do u have to use vietas formula
can u not js equate the coefficients
ive heard of that
thats what i was thinking for a sec
but if u expand it
u cant even cancel terms out
this question is from argand diagrams?
fr? ok
yes
unless i have expanded it wrong
thats strange
u yr 11?
yh
how dyu know about vietas formula
honestly I js look at topics from a level maths and FM and ask my maths teacher abt them
i rate it
and vietas formula was js one of the things I came across
yhh its like the principle of the 3rd chapter in as fm
but I only started doing this in like yr 10 summer so I don't know a lot in depth abt each topic but I have like a surface level understanding of the ones I've looked at b4
thats still very good
yh anyways back to the qyestion
the answer is a = -2 and b = 3 but how do u get there
assuming u take it for a level u will be healla ahead
yh icl b is pretty obvsious
yh ofc maths and fm are best a levels
ik
wait I got that
and I js equated the coefficients
can u show me ur working out
ok one sec
i only got the b = 3 part
yh i just solved it
yeah
3b = 9
yh icl I think we were overcomplicating it in the beginning with the vietas formula stuff this question was pretty straightforward once u figured it out
yhh that was stupid from my behalf
nw happens to the best of us
the question reminded me of polynomials when i first saw it hence i went down that root
@stable fulcrum i apologise for complicating it
sometimes bc of the a level stuff I learnt in normal gcse maths I overthink stuff
so its fine
like I said
happens to all of us
ahh thats funny ngl
yh
yh fair enough
WW
like for example
imma have to keep practicing it
no problem
but i still wont understand why that comes under argand diagrams
in one question it gave a graph which showed the cross section of a tunnel and we had to figure out the area of the cross section
so I used integrals
loool wtf
but in reality all u had to do was use triangles
i havent even learnt that but ur hella far ahead
and estimte
yhh it does help a lot i agree
100th msg
ur on track to patterning ur gcses then
yh I did this with all my subjects
so bc of that I have time to do extra ones out of school
like add maths
and stats
ahh thats good
i can imaginee
yh
havent learnt tm yet
so cant comment
but anyways keep up the work bro
u seem to be doing sick
wil get u far
imma go sleep now
ofc gotta keep up the grind
see u around
gn then
