find the gradients of (-3,-7) to (8,59) and (8,59) to (10,71) if they are the same then they lie on the same line
8, 59
-3, -7
Change in y = 66
Change in x = 11
66/11 = 6, hence the gradient is 6
10, 71
8, 59
Change in y = 12
Change in x = 2
12/2 = 6
Gradient is 6
Are both gradients the same?
Yes. They lie on the same line.
y = 6x + 11 would be the equation of the line, the gradient is always 6 so through substitution we can work out c is 11. @slate marsh
6(-3) + c = -7
-18 + c = -7
c = 11
