For part (a) find an expression for the volume in terms of x and y, equate it to 9600 and rearrange to make y the subject

split the volume up into the rectangle bit and triangle bit

work out eqs for volume for both

add together

#

then rearange to get y

#

24x^2 y + 6x^2 y = 9600

24 bit is the rectangle volume

6 bit is the triangle
