i’ve drawn the shape wrong so can someone help me do this q

carmine cradle
#

,flip

#

how do i flip

gleaming island
#

,rotate

#

It’s not looking right

#

it’s portrait like this

carmine cradle
#

root 1009 is the length of the final square

#

how are there 6 squares

gleaming island
#

i need to make another square

carmine cradle
#

I thougth that there are 3 from the original triangle

and then 2 elsewhere

#

i dont thinmkk im understanding the

#

'the squares on these three further line segments are then cnstructed outside the hexagon'

#

=IGG

#

IGG

#

OHH***

#

I see

gleaming island
#

there’s 3 in the q and u gotta make another 3

carmine cradle
#

oh my lord i thought that was 3d

#

its very convincing 3d shape

#

if u geet me

#

thinking of it in 2d makes it so much easier

#

Every triangle is right angled

#

nvm

#

its not

#

what are the 2 equal squares.... the 2 big ones i drew in look convincing.... but why would they be equal

gleaming island
#

it’s the one on the top

carmine cradle
#

None of the original ones are, bcs triangle is scalene

#

OHH YES

#

i agree

#

nice

gleaming island
#

look they both 1009

carmine cradle
polar linden
#

So using pythagoras a2 +b2=1009 but a2 and b2 are the areas of the 2 squares so they’re area sums to 1009

carmine cradle
#

idk about my ab labelling but certainly each side labelled is either a or b and thee other side of the same triangle is ab

polar linden
#

So u know the area now of 4 of the 6 squares

carmine cradle
#

like

#

why would that be

b * b

#

why isnt it a * b

polar linden
#

Cos it’s a square…

carmine cradle
#

💀

gleaming island
#

just rotated it

carmine cradle
#

????????

gleaming island
#

goodness me this q is stressful

#

lemme explain

#

what i did

carmine cradle
#

what are you drawing

#

just use my diagram

gleaming island
#

i don’t even understand ur diagram

polar linden
gleaming island
#

nah what ima say is acc logical if u use ur brain to understand what im saying

polar linden
#

U know the total area of the 2 squares u don’t need to keep working it out

polar linden
#

The top 2 in the hexagon

#

Ye

carmine cradle
#

how u know they sum to 1009

#

sry ik u explained, pls reexplain

#

me no comprendre

polar linden
carmine cradle
#

💀

#

lmfaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

gleaming island
#

i think ur doin it in a longer way than u need to

#

we know area one of the squares definitely which is 1009

#

we gotta find the other 2 i think u gotta use the triangles

#

u know the lines that connect the vertices of the triangles

#

maybe we use them triangles

carmine cradle
#

these 2 sum to 4016-a^2-b^2

=4016-1009

gleaming island
polar linden
#

Where did u get 2008 from?

carmine cradle
#

holy crap

#

whats wrong with me today

polar linden
#

I’m assuming ur gonna need cosine rule to find those lengths of the triangle which shld give u the answer

gleaming island
#

i got a alternative idea

#

but we use the triangle

carmine cradle
#

i think im not crazy this time

#

agree?

polar linden
#

Wrong the angle in the triangles isn’t 90° so u can’t use that to get the other sidelength

gleaming island
polar linden
#

U defo need cosine rule for this

carmine cradle
#

i even wrote that in the diagram

#

with the red angles

#

what is upw me

gleaming island
#

yeah there’s many approaches

polar linden
#

Wait I have a solution but it’s very complicated to explain

gleaming island
#

see if what i’m saying makes more sense than him 💀

#

ok u see the triangle formed from the two biggest squares

carmine cradle
#

this red angle

#

=that

#

The one in the original triangle

weary knot
#

Yooo someone help with my normal distribution question after pls

gleaming island
#

u see how we got the first square to be 1009 we can use the two squares to find the biggest one

polar linden
gleaming island
polar linden
carmine cradle
#

yo ima take a nap

#

hopefully im dreaming

#

cant do math

gleaming island
#

nah i have an idea

#

i think u should draw ur squares differently , one on each triangle

#

wait u did

polar linden
#

Ye

gleaming island
#

nvm

#

then

polar linden
#

That’s like step 1 in this q

gleaming island
#

u gotta use a triangle to help u form another square

#

see the triangle formed from the two biggest squares ??

polar linden
#

Ye

gleaming island
#

u can rotate it sort of 90 anti-clockwise

#

try it urself actually so u can see then u get a straight line and u can make another square a ?? it’s kinda confusing

#

let’s say green is where it started u can move it to make it look like yellow and u now know that it’s the same length as a

#

i acc don’t know but i think i’m on the right track

polar linden
#

Do u know how radians work?

gleaming island
#

is it not possible for it to be rotated ??

#

how else would we find the area of the biggest square bc we gotta find the are of the other two

polar linden
polar linden
gleaming island
#

it started at the green and now it’s been rotated i highlighted it lol

gleaming island
polar linden
#

Oh well this q might be very hard then

gleaming island
#

but that don’t mean what i’m doing is invalid bc idk how

#

check the ms it’s either 2018 or 2019 maclaurin olympiad

#

i don’t remember

polar linden
#

It’s 2018 cos the q says 2018 is the area

gleaming island
#

oh they use the numbers of the year lmao i forgot

#

2018 then

polar linden
#

Ye it uses radians asw

gleaming island
#

is does?

#

it**

polar linden
#

Ye

gleaming island
#

oh ok

#

i’m looking at it now and they did the same thing i did 💀

#

they rotated the triangle

polar linden
#

Ohhhhh

#

I get it now

#

Ye u we’re on the right track

#

I think once u got the right angled part u wldve got it
