so r u gonna help me
Yes
lemme work it out
So
do you want the answer or do you want to understand it @hybrid brook
cool
so
let the width of the rectangle = x
So the length of the rectangle will be 3x+4
Do you get how I got here
the length of the rectangle is equal to the width of the rectangle multiplied by 3 and add 4 so 3(x) +4
my brain hurts man lemme think
cool now
let’s decipher the question
now what I would do is rewrite the question in a way that I could understand
The area of the square is 66 more than the area of the rectangle
there’s two shapes ?
so the area of the square is = to the length of the square ^2 + 66
Yes
we have one shape which is 3x+4 by 3x+4
you may want to draw both shapes
oops i drew it wrong
tell me when you want me to continue
In the meantime I want you to recall the area of a square and the area of a rectangle
It’s like this
read the question, the length of each of the sides of square is equal to the length of the rectangle
you do?
I will continue explaining, just in case.
Now, the area of the square is (3x+4)^2 -66
That’s because we want to make the two areas of the shapes equal so we can solve for x.
that, then subtract 66
y
to answer the question, we need the area of both shapes to be the same. As area of square is 66cm greater than area of rectangle , we need to subtract 66 from the area of the square to balance it out.
i got an ugly quadratic man
Let’s see
Right, but that’s not yet finished
now equal that quadratic to the area of the rectangle
Then rearrange and you should get a quadratic
now factorise
it’s non calc
have you not done it in class?
do the coefficient * c
i have but it’s so long
just try it
you should get a nice simple number
think of factors of -75 that add to 10
what two numbers multiply to make -75 and add to make 10
yeah i was gonna ask
i can’t think
15 and 5
yup
yes and remember you have that coefficient to resolve
ik
cool
what’s x = to
or x=-5 but i’ll use the pos
yes now that’s the width of the rectangle, but the question also asks for the length too
Yes because a length can only be positive
ik
So look back for the equation for the length, and plug your value in
so what’s the length?
also do you understand each of the steps and why we did them
yup!
yee i do actually surprisingly
i’m so silly that i didn’t even draw it at first
it was a Q in my mock
and i skipped it 😭
yea the question was simple quadratics the difficult part was just creating the equation
it’s fine, you’ll still do good- it’s not the end of the world. Furthermore, now you know so at least it’s a learning process. NEVER SKIP A QUESTION, UNLESS TOU HAVE NO TIME! you never know you might be able to get method marks
i did get an 8 overall
thankfully
examiners look to award marks, marks aren’t deducted
That’s still very very good
I doubt that, and tbf if you had a lot of time- I would still do so
i did understand tbf and caught on quick
i just need to focus
like In my case I finish 90% of the paper in 40 minutes and use the rest of my time on the last few really challenging questions
yea
40 minutes 😭
time management is crucial
you’ve shown to yourself that you can do the maths, you just need to decipher the question
decipher ?
That’s why I like to write the question in simple terms
Tbf my vocabulary isn’t the best either
And break it into steps
One hard question can be very daunting, 5 easy questions are manageable
so make your one hard question into 5 easy parts
nahhh if IK i got a 6 marker wrong i’d not be able to sleep following results day
True
but if you want to ask me
I don’t think this question was worth 6 marks
I think that’s a bit too high
maybe something like 4
tbf you want it to be less, so if you do get it wrong you lose less marks
oh right that’s very true 😭😭 i got 52 in this paper and i could’ve got 58 damn
genuinely should be 4
1 for making both length equations
1 for squaring and rearranging
1 for factorising
1 for final method mark, eg finding the length and width
there’s gonna be a 6 marker in our gcses that shakes everyone up watch
stop, let’s not scare ourselves
it’ll probably be some horrific exam anyways
💀 nah i can feel it in my bones some mad questions
Both are very strong scores
i’ll be tearing up on the exam seat
i did better on calc papers
Esp with them saying that the grade boundaries are going to be tough
nc is my enemy
What did you get
overall 184
have you finished your mocks
yeah
same
mock 2 are in march
I’m so glad they are gone
accounts for the fact that I probably failed biology
217
yea I got 72 in paper 1 77 in paper 2 68 in paper 3
The exam was very very nice
it’s almost as if they made the exam for me
grade boundaries were kinda low for paper 2 as there were a few complex geometry questions
ohh what was the hardest topic
how many marks ?
can’t lie i hate shapes
5
I think it was too much work for 5 marks
seeing as a simple vector question was also 5 marks
Try it, I recommend you read the question carefully
Do you wanna see the question
I finished the exam in like an hour and 10 minutes and just watched everyone sweat over the question
well I recommend you do so
my teacher told me I was the only person in the year who got full marks 💀💀💀💀
I could never my teacher lit taught the whole topic in two days
worst part about this was after the exam everyone was telling me I was wrong.
no i’m in a bad set so we went from BASIC to q’s with 3 marks and 2 marks and then finally 5 marks
go work it out and get back to@me
and then proving it
I really wouldnt mind that but tbf for you to be in a bad set and still get an 8
props to you
that’s an amazing job
yea
they should move you up to set 2 if not set 1
set 1 100% but no less than set 2
i am in set 2
set two is not a bad set
but set 2 is full of foundation students who just moved up
wtf
and they are slow so my teacher spends ages on it
In my school set 1 and 2 is acc some prestige set
atleast i do FM
set 1 ppl act like they’re the best i dislike most of them
🥸
I am definitely not part of set 1
I am 100% telling the truth
tbf there is some crazy range in my set
the base of the cone, is the sector
do i work out AOB major or minor
welp looks like i’m not getting it
it’s all in the question
basically the base of the cone is the sector, joined together
Use the diagrams they’ve given you to understand
OAB of Sector OACB
tell me when you get a number!
is this calc question
Yes
you can use that
there’s two ways of looking at it
it’s also given just in case you don’t know it
but the way I solved it didn’t use the curved surface area formula
do it in the way you are comfortable in.
do i join a line between A and B on the sector to make it a triangle
just tell me if that’s part of the method
no hints
no
alr
The curved area of the cone is the area of the sector ( method 1), or the circumference of the cone is the arc length of the sector ( method 2)
The diagram is the clue
got an answer
i did something silly to get this
wait no
my answer was wrong
lemme redo
GOT IT
264 degrees rounded to 3sd
sf**
that’s fine
had to work out slanted height
you are doing better than loads of my set then!
😭😭 thankss
I was the only one in my set who got the answer
So barring me, you are better than my whole set
Feel proud of yourself
wishing you the best in your GCSE maths journey
yea that’s why I don’t think it really was worth 5 marks
too much work
too many steps
you should
u too
ok i need to sleep but ty for helping me 👍
