#equation of circul idk WTF THIS IS

whyd u plug in -4
how do you know D is directly under the centre
ok so basically
u see y=2x+6
u plug that in for y in the equation of the circle
so now you only have one variable x
and then you jst solve
yw
u get two solutions and also this is a dumb question because how do you know where D is and where E is
i guess its interchangeable
yeah you get 2 solutions
so u get 2 coordinates where the line DE intersects the circle
but in your diagram D could be anywhere on the circle and E anywhere
you're assuming D is on the bottom half of the circle and E on the top half
np so yea D has two possible coordinates and E has two possible coordinates
usually they would have something that makes it clearer like D is above the x axis or something so you only get one possible solution for each
Hmm can u do this by using distance formula and then u will get a equation in form of x^2 +y^2 ig then u can do simulatneous equation with the equation of the circle?
Like u cam find the radius and find point D and do the same for point E
@frigid lantern will u get the right answer doing this ?
No because u dont know the distance DE, the length of a chord is not equal to the radius unless it goes through the centre which you cannot assyme
Nah but
What about DC
We can take DC (length ) and prolly we will get an equation for an imaginary line passing through point D and u can combine the equation of the circle and the equation for D then u get solutions for D
You need the coordinates of D for distance formula though?
Yea so what I'm saying
Hollon I'll show
Forgot to show ๐๐lol
If u were gonna do it the way i thought you would u would have two variables x and y so you cant solve since youll only have one equation
No so basically if u use distance formula u can just plug in the coordinates of d as x and y so basically u get a equation for D then u can plug that equation into the equation of circle cuz they meet at D then u will get the values for D
