#Laptop completely turns off randomly

Your PC/Laptop Specifications: ROG Strix G513QY

Age: I've owned it for a few years.

The issue: It turns off randomly when playing any sort of game. It also turns off at specific times during cutscenes or certain actions. (For example, it turns off whenever I view Iron Man's skin animation in Marvel Rivals)

Troubleshooting that you have already completed: I have a HWInfo file of the laptop when I had Destiny 2 running in the background (Also has all info regarding the laptop) but it won't let me post it here. I've tried lowering the maximum CPU usage to 70%, increasing fan speed, etc. The CPU gets up to 95c but does not go above that. GPU stays at or below 90c

common causes:

  1. overheating. if it hasn't been cleaned and repasted in the last year or 2, it's likely filled with dust which not only cause overheating but can also cause a short. cleaning it and repasting shouldn't take more than an hour DIY, just gather the supplies ahead of time.

  2. battery/power delivery. if the random shut down happens when on battery, the battery is likely about to fail and might need replacement if it can't sustain the power consumption required. if it's happening even if it's plugged in, there might be an issue with the power delivery system. im not 100% sure if this laptop model has a bypass but u can test it out by unplugging the battery and directly powering the laptop with the charger.

  3. outdated or corrupted software. make sure everything is up to date, windows, drivers, etc. you may also run scans to verify your OS is corruption free. you can also try to reinstall the game to make sure it's not corrupted.
