The issue.

when I play a game I have low fps between 30-60. The game is world of warcraft

While playing the game I have task manager on the second screen to track the usage of the following.
CPU. 30-40%
RAM. 70%
GPU. 15%

I do have other programs open. however the usage of the game its self as follows.
CPU 25-20%
RAM 3000 MB
GPU 0.1%

Is it normal that the game uses 0.1% of the gpu or there is a problem?

your cpu is a massive bottleneck

#

far far slower than the gpu relatively

#

I need an upgrade? or can I do something?

idle tendon
#

need to upgrade

#

you are missing out on likely half of your gpu performance minimum

#

wouldnt get the most out of that gpu until you reach 11th gen

small venture
#

damn so I need a whole new motherboard too

#

so basicly a new pc

idle tendon
#

yep, new otherwise

#

ddr5, several new mobo/cpu chipsets

#

i mean your pc is 9 years old other than gpu

small venture
#

yea might be better to upgrade. thanks for the help

idle tendon
#

if you would like to figure out a build me or some others in #design-a-build would be happy to help

#

did you just pick up the 3070?

#

is this a new to you build?

#

a refurb office pc?

small venture
#

no I got it as an upgrade when it was released. I guess I didn't think it through at the time

#

and I had a gaming laptop to play on for the past year so didn't have the issue

idle tendon
#

yeah even at launch you pc cant handle the gpu power

small venture
#

I was thinking of a new build. but I don't want to buy overpriced gpus

idle tendon
#

just keep the gpu

#

clearly dont need a new one for playing WOW lol

small venture
#

xD yea

idle tendon
#

not like the other parts were bothering you

#

just get a budget and potential pcpartpicker list down and post it in #design-a-build

small venture
#

so whats the high end motherboards and cpus nowadays for gaming? so when I want to upgrade the gpu in the future it can handle it

idle tendon
#

x870 and x870E

#

amd is stomping intel if you havent seen

#

price and performance unless you go a few gens back

#

look in pinned messages in #design-a-build , i previously put a list of specs for each chipset variant

small venture
#

will check it out. thanks for the help

bro what? 8700k is old but not a bottleneck for wow. something else is going on with the system to cause low fps. a new cpu would help a lot, but i'd try fixing the issue with the system now instead of throwing money at the problem

idle tendon
#

ive seen weird stuff with hardware on both ends of the bottleneck scale, you are probaly right though

#

i am completely unfamiliar with WoW

#

it would still make sense to upgrade if this is going to be his primary system now

coral condor
#

8700k is i tihnk only 20% slower than a 10700k and my 5600x is near that performance. i ran wow on a 5600x and 3070 and it was fine

#

that was during legion and dragonflight

#

err wait not legion uhh

#

the one after that

#

shadowlands

#

you should figure out what has changed with the system recently. updates to windows or wow or something else running on the pc
