#No Power To RTX 4080S
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
did you plug your display cable into the gpu and not the motherboard?
No, the GPU isn’t reading at all, nor is it receiving power.
The LED is off
The display port won’t even read if it’s plugged into the GPU
I tried taking the GPU out and moving it into both PCIE ports, tried looking at the power supply and replugging the wires, no response
I don’t understand what’s wrong though, the GPU shouldn’t be fried since it was working yesterday before it was delivered
where did you buy this from
Scan
It came with the PC
But it was working yesterday
what is that
British manufacturing company
you mean you had it in your possession and used it
No they did.
are you sure it still has a die on the pcb?
lots of gpus being sold without dies right now
No LED if you can see
Yesterday before being delivered today
have you re-seated the power cable?
Yeah, tried both PCIe ports, tried unplugging the PSU from the GPU twice, screwing it in positions, unplugging PCIe cable multiple times
I doubt it was delivery either since the entire thing inside was coated with air bags to protect the components
have you contacted scan yet?
Yeah, they said they’d take it back for around 50 dollars in my currency to repair
But I don’t really want to
Did you check the cable is seated in the power supply?
Multiple times
They’re all placed correctly
the pcie slot isnt damaged at all, gpu is clipped in
Unless the GPU is fried after a week of being out of the box?
can you take out the gpu then send a picture of the back of it, the pins on it and the slot on the motherboard?
crazy things happen during shipping. the picture means nothing to me
Would it affect my warranty if I removed the GPU entirely?
just look at the slot first
The slot clicks when I move back and forth
Like if I unclip the GPU slightly where it’s not noticed
To pull it out
Then push it back in
clip should stay inm place
Not clip as in pulling back and forth without removing
Sorry
It wouldn’t if the port was damaged
youre doing this while its screwed in?
Yeah, I can’t remove the screws
if you can move the gpu in the slot while its still screwed in the slot is broken
send it back man
Tbh I think it was delivery that did this, since at depots pcs aren’t treated well
I dunno if I wanna pay 50 extra dollars
Cos it could just happen again when it’s sent back
okay well it costs a lot more than 50 to replace the motherboard
chance of it happening again isnt that large
I don’t know how it broke though that’s the thing
if you can buy a 2500 pound pc and cant afford 50 dollar shipping.....
Well, that’s true
its the gpu moving in the slot with shipping
How can I get the GPU sent with my pc intact
Cos when I opened the case, the magnetic thing holding the GPU up fell, it’s not attached it’s just a magnetic support
send the whole thing back in original packaging
they wont want just the gpu
hold up. how did you reseat the GPU if u can’t remove the screws?
no, the GPU won’t sit properly
you have to unscrew it
If I take it out it’d cost me around 900 dollars to repair
I’m just worried how they’d ship it back after repair
they cant void the warranty as far as i know
as you got it lol
if the GPU is screwed in, the back part of the GPU won’t lift up and won’t sit back down the proper way
dude this is like a 1/1000 thing
that’s why it’s wiggling back and forth
and its not the gpu thats broken
its the way its in the slot
so either its not seated or the slot is broken
I’ll remove it but I risk my warranty, I’ll get back to you in 3 minutes
I pulled two screws out of the PCIE slot GPU container, and piled the GPU back, it looks absolutely fine
No damage at all
All the pins are good
did you lift the gpu out completely?
did u look at the slot?
The PCIE slot is fine too
so it’s either the GPU that’s fried or the motherboard that failed
wait, has the pc been off the entire time you have been messing with it?
okay sit the GPU back into the slot. make sure the locking tab clicks, then put 1 screw back
Yes and unplugged
perfect, ive had things happen lol
I honestly think the GPU is fried
2 options:
keep trying
or
contact the seller and ship it back
btw, u do have a lot more things to check. looks like u’ve only looked at the GPU and PSU so far
with some boards the pcie slots automatically disables if there’s a short
just to protect the gpu
if the ram isn’t seated properly due to shipping, it can totally cause the gpu to not turn on
are you talking about the shorter finger on the pcie?
because that’s normal
The 2nd one at the right side
mhmm that’s normal
look at a gpu from 20 years ago
probably best to do that if u aren’t comfortable troubleshooting it yourself
i got onto the pc and set it up, this is how the task manager is looking
Do you know what m.2 slot your ssd is installed? Top or bottom?
I'd suggest trying a different pcie slot if you have a second x16 length or a slot with the end open to take long cards
You never posted your specs
B650 Motherboard ASUS TUF
RTX 4080 Super ASUS TUF
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
2 TB Storage
32 GB DDR5 RAM
I tried fitting it in the second one, the GPU is just way tooo massive
looks like your pc is detecting the gpu?
inb4 it’s the psu lol
did the psu come with the build?
It all came with it lol
card show up at all in device manager?
No
Doesn’t even read display port
There’s just 0 power
did they send you all the extra parts? like the extra psu cables and the adapter that would come with the 4080?
They gave me a bag full of spare cables so I assume so
it supposed to be sent as is. plug n play so unless a cable snapped you shouldnt need to do that
would be worth looking to see if they sent you the nvidia adapter. if they did, plug in pcie cables and try the adapter.
i know, but it is a quick test, dont need to route anything, just plug em in
I did take a look at the PCIE cable, everything was in order, as well as the PSU cable, replugged and unplugged, so it might just be a case of extremely unlucky dead GPU, although it was only manufactured 2 weeks ago.
i highly doubt the gpu is dead..
Could be if the PSU is working correctly
what if the psu is the one that died instead
i would askk to send pics of the connector for the motherboard maybe it was damaged
like scratched pins or something
if it still gets no power after that, would guess that you may have a crack in the board near the pcie slot or that the pcie slot is damaged
This is the pc before it sent, notice how the GPU transmits an LED
No LED, no detection
did you try taking out the gpu at all?
remember, PSUs is not as simple as “it works or it doesn’t”, it has multiple “rails” and a dead rail does not mean “PSU dead” right away
Yep
did you take pictures of it the pins?
the part that connects to the motherboard i mean
The pins are all good, I checked them, all fine, including the board ones
that seems very unlikely tho. cause how could that happen
unless it was loose when you first tried to turn it on maybe shorted a circuit
So there was an issue when I tried turning on the pc for the first time
ya?
possible to send a clear zoomed in picture of the card plugged into the pcie slot? I have helped a lot of people with strange issues and have had a number of times the card wasn't socketed correctly, even though it felt like it was
I plugged the wire in, but the PSU wasn’t detecting any input, tried switching it on, etc, nothing. So 5 minutes later, I shook the wire gently, heard slight crunching electric noises, then a click and everything turned on.
yeahhhhhhh
wait wat
It wasn’t turning on so I just wiggled it extremely gently, like the wire that goes into the PSU with the plug socket in the outlet
Has 3 pins in it
if it was loud electrical noises like that from the gpu its cooked
It didn’t turn on the first time, so it might not have been plugged in correctly, so after I pushed it all the way in with a lot of pressure and it turned on.
yeah..
ya, wiggling power cable is not an issue, but if you heard crackling, something isnt happy. hopefully just psu
but you did that while it was plugged in
Hell it wasn’t even like, turned on yet but the switch was on
he fully connected a loose power supply while the pc was running
ok so not running
This part here
yeah it wasnt plugged in all the way when you turned it on initially..
that would cause an electrical surge to fry some components
speaking of rm850x's, i had one shoot flames out of it once on first startup
It didn’t turn on at all, so I plugged it in all the way and it turned on, but I heard crackles when I tried it with the same type of wire
Oh, are they not good PSUs to use?
Must’ve been defective or something since it shouldn’t be doing that at all
but i had one of those fry straight out of the box from BB
best bet is to keep this to yourself cause they can try to hold you accountable for this
Yeah thank you guys I think I know the issue now
dont mention sparks or electricity problems to them just say it wouldnt start
but yeah sounds like you fried it cause it wasnt plugged in correctly
Is there any tips on how to plug it in correctly
just make sure its all the way in aha like push on it till it hjits the bottom
plugged in, gpu not working. works plugged into motherboard only, no lights on gpu, everything looks connected properly, no damage seen. plz fix, k thx
Will it stop when it reaches there
Yeah that’s fine absolutely
plugged in, gpu not working. works plugged into motherboard only, no lights on gpu, everything looks connected properly, no damage seen. plz fix, k thx
I just gotta learn how to plug in this pc since I was a laptop user
yes you cant push it in "too far"
One error can be fatal
obviously dont try to force anything but yeah
I think I fried my PSU when I tried using another different type of wire that maybe wasn’t built for the PSU but was compatible with the shape
i mean... you could, but something would be broken, lol
yup. had a motherboard fry because i plugged a fan into the wrong slot
i just said "doesnt work" and got a refund. i was broke college kid at the time building my first pc on tight budget
They’ll fix it anyways surely, so it wasn’t a shipping error at all
It might’ve been my fault oops
I shouldn’t have used the monitor wire for the PSU lol
only use psu cables that came with the psu or designed specifically for it. even if they look the same, some cables are pinned differently, even within the same brand
for psu specifically yeah make sure its plugged in properly..
Yeah that’s actually a major tip that I didn’t follow
I just thought would this wire work, it fit, but I heard crackles when I plugged it in
Like that sound when you plug plugs into sockets
wait, you did that with this computer?
Yes
something inside the computer, or the power cord that plugs in the back
that gpu is done for im afraid. they might be able to fix it or someone with that hardware knowledge
Oh these guys made the pc and it has 3 years warranty
They can replace everything if they needed to
They do very well with stocks too lol
like the stock market?
They have so much 50 series in stock
ohhh
No like GPU, cpu stocking etc
So it might just be the GPU that needs replacing if it’s the only thing that fried and the motherboard that works etc
im kinda sad a gpu just got removed from the market tho
It’s annoying now, and overpriced
theres not too many of those rn
But I feel bad that I wasted around 1000 dollars of these guys money
and whatever losses that company faces cause of this will be passed down to their future customers im sure
The guys who made my pc said they’ll take it back on Monday for analysis
so basically 100 customers will have to pay $10 extra to make up for it
Oh wow
this is not true
