#I can't get to BIOS

I have a Asrock B650m, ryzen 7600X, and gtx 1070. I moved my case fans around yesterday and also installed a new PSU. I wiped a couple of things down with a damp towel, but not even computer components. I plugged in the front USB HD audio jack to the mobo which had been unplugged for years (didn't need it). That's almost everything I did.

After doing this, nothing should have changed. I upgraded my PSU because i thought that something was wrong with power delivery to my GPU. When I have a game open and tab out, my cursor might just blink rapidly. There's no input lag, but it might disappear. And some windows like HWINFO64 might blink while the game is open. This was very weird.

But now I have a really unusual problem - i may have had some issues with chipset drivers upon starting my computer up or something. First, my microphone on my gaming headset suddenly just stopped getting any and all input. I think it's software beacus i switched to a different mic and it had no issue recording audiol This never happened before. In device manager, under security devices, AMD PSP had a device failed to start thing. So I uninstalled and reinstalled all my chipsets. Tried to boot into BIOS later. Then I realized, I don't see the asrock mobo splash anymore. If I spam del or F2 or whatever, I just get a black screen?

#

sounds like a shorting issue

hard mango
#

what should i do about that?

#

not sure what that means actually

sick void
#

make sure the pc is not on carpet, especially if the room is very dry

#

you may be shocking the usb ports from the mic with static discharge

hard mango
#

It works fine with a different mic, but no i'm on hardwood. The issue is I can't get to BIOS and i don't see the bios splash

sick void
#

does the keyboard work at all when booting up?

#

are you able to access the boot menu on bootup

hard mango
#

keyboard works fine, peripherals are all fine

#

i can't get to bios, i can't boot into safe mode by holding down shift during restart

#

i get a permanent black screen

sick void
#

unplug power to the pc, turn off the power supply in the back, hold down the power button for up to 10 seconds, then plug it back, turn it on. hold down the button to get into bios right after turning the pc on

#

taking off, someone else might help

hard mango
#

Np thanks

#

I did that last night :(

i just realized they never actually answered my question about if the keyboard works on boot up, not whether it works in windows or at all

Black screen when trying to bios

hard mango
sick void
#

when you boot your computer

#

you press a key to access bios, usually f8 or f11

#

or boot menu f10

hard mango
#

Can't

#

Black screen

#

Asrock b650m

#

I hit del i think

sick void
#

ok... did you make sure not to plug your display into the motherboard but into the gpu?

hard mango
#

Uh lmao

#

That's worth checking

#

No wait it's def in my gpu

sick void
#

is it the correct cable?

hard mango
#

Yeah? Displayport

sick void
#

try hdmi

#

or a different port

hard mango
#

Oh. Like when i try to go to bios intentionally i black screen

#

The only way it works

Is if i start up normally.
I can't bios

sick void
#

the ports are numbered and some have higher priority over others

#

ok just a sec im going over what you said again

#

kind of suspecting overheating or defective part

hard mango
#

Yeah it's scuffed

#

Idk :/

#

I'm gonna reset cmos when i go back home

sick void
#

check the gpu temperature

#

and cpu

#

when idle

#

i know the 7000 series runs hot, but it shouldnt be 95c when idle

hard mango
#

It's only 90+ when I'm gaming
45 when idle

sick void
#

and the gtx 1070 is old, so it's possible the thermal paste is past it's prime

hard mango
#

Gpu temps are doing well

sick void
#

well doesnt mean anything

#

if the gpu fans are running maxed out but the temperature is "normal" it means it's compensating for overheating

#

on boot up the fans might go max speed for a bit

#

just kind of thinking out loud what might be causing black screen on boot

#

also were you able to access the bios without any blackscreen through windows?

hard mango
#

Let me clarify

#

Normal startup, no startup problems

sick void
#

did you get around to resetting the cmos yet?

hard mango
#

Try to get to bios? Try to do safe startup? Perma black screen.

sick void
#

wait you're not home yet are you

hard mango
#

Nope lol

sick void
#

reset cmos and then see what happens i guess

hard mango
#

Might just totally reinstall windows or something

sick void
#

that wont fix anything if it happens on start up

hard mango
#

Or idk if I fucked up installing the PSU

#

Ok right...

#

I feel like if I screwed something up with the psu it would have fried, not given me this

sick void
#

there are a bunch of things it could be

hard mango
sick void
#

worst thing you might need to do is take stuff out and reseat components

#

or have to buy a new motherboard

hard mango
#

What a headache marine_sad_kitty_face

#

Yeah I might just do that

sick void
#

part of pc

hard mango
#

Mobo should be ok? It's so new...

sick void
#

no idea

hard mango
#

Yeah

sick void
#

reseating ram and gpu are your first things to try if resetting bios doesnt help, but that is something that shouldnt even be affecting it

hard mango
#

Oh..

sick void
#

cpu "might" need to be reseated, but that probably isnt the issue

#

sometimes reseating everything after trying everything one at a time is the only fix

#

trying to think of something simple to try before going crazy on this

#

you could unplug the audio cable you plugged in because you might have plugged it in the wrong place

#

a lot of the issue sounds like a usb problem

#

possibly either shorting out or you have a defective device plugged in

tepid birch
#

really

hard mango
#

Yeah so here's the update

I reset the CMOS by shorting the mobo pins

#

after this, the ASrock auto driver installer popped up all of a sudden. it asked me if i want to one-step install the latest drivers simply from the ASrock auto driver installer, which i ignored. gonna try a safe mode boot now. prob gonna get a black screen

#

still didn't see bios splash yet anyway. also my monitor is indeed plugged into my gpu

#

safe mode boot gave me a black screen lol.

# hard mango Black screen when restarting like that

a couple of things you can try:

__1. disable fast startup in power options (see pic)
__
start menu -> power options -> "choose what the power buttons do" (left side pane) -> UNCHECK "turn on fast startup"

*if the option is grayed out, click "change settings that are currently unavailable"

then try the steps i mentioned earlier.

or..

__2. remove the GPU and plug in the monitor directly to the motherboard to use the iGPU from the 7600X
__
turn off pc -> unplug dp cable or hdmi cable from GPU and plug directly to mobo -> remove GPU from pci-e slot -> turn pc back on and try getting to BIOS

thanks a bunch for the help guys

#

so i finally went to take a look at the mobo now and i noticed that the HD audio connector was only connected to the top half of the pins lol

#

I haven't turned the PC on but that's got to be almost the entire reason.

#

thanks again
