After installing a 4060 into my system i now have frame stuttering every second or so. for some reason these only occur after installing the gpu drivers. Ive been using DDU to uninstall and reinstall the drivers to no avail. -AMD Ryzen 7 5800 x3D -Geforce RTX 4060 -MSI B550 Gaming Plus Mobo -650W psu -32gb RAM

if you can find me a solution I will venmo you

this sometimes happen when jumping from one manufacturer to another like from AMD to nVidia.

DDU is almost always the first thing to do but in this case, the way you use DDU would also matter.

try this:

  1. download fresh copy of nvidia drivers
  2. run DDU in safe mode and clean out AMD drivers.
  3. repeat DDU but this time with intel drivers.
  4. repeat DDU one last time but with nvidia drivers
  5. steps 2-4 ensures u have absolutely no display drivers left and the monitor should be running on the very basic driver included with windows
  6. unplug ethernet or disconnect wifi
  7. restart pc and get out of safe mode
  8. since internet is down, windows update won’t be able to fetch drivers automatically. install drivers downloaded from step 1
  9. restart pc then see if it’s all fixed now.

and when drivers are in files

rapid flint
#

u just want the internet to be down when pc goes back to normal mode

elfin quartz
#

ok thank you I will try this now, ive been using ddu a ton but never unplugged ethernet

#

ive been choosing the offline safe mode but idk if that prevents drivers

rapid flint
#

hopefully that fixes it. good luck!

elfin quartz
#

thank you

rapid flint
#

yup offline safe mode prevents windows from connecting to windows update servers but it will fetch drivers as soon as u boot back normally

#

so ideally u want internet to be down, hence u download the drivers before the DDU

elfin quartz
#

Yup, I’m doing it right now

rapid flint
#

good luck!

elfin quartz
#

The second the drivers installed the problem started again

elfin quartz
#

I have been at this for 6 hours man

#

I don’t know what to do anymore

#

@rapid flint any ideas?

rapid flint
#

check your motherboard's manufacturer website for an update for the chipset drivers

#

then if that doesnt solve the issue, go into bios and disable "CPPC" and "preferred cores"

elfin quartz
rapid flint
elfin quartz
#

because earlier i did an m-flash for my msi one

#

does the driver encompass the chipset

rapid flint
#

u did a bios update?

elfin quartz
#

yes

rapid flint
#

oh okay, then go update the chipset drivers as well

elfin quartz
#

sounds good

rapid flint
#

it should be listed under drivers > system and chipset drivers

#

then head back to bios and make sure your CPPC and Preferred Cores are disabled. while u're in there, double check your XMP settings as well and enable it if it's not enabled yet

elfin quartz
rapid flint
#

that's alright

#

u can verify it using task manager

elfin quartz
#

sounds good

elfin quartz
rapid flint
#

u just download the drivers and run the installer

elfin quartz
rapid flint
#

no need

elfin quartz
#

and enabled xmp

#

still stuttering

rapid flint
#

let me check which agesa u have hold on

elfin quartz
#

ok thank you

rapid flint
#

did u download the latest bios version?

elfin quartz
#

yes

rapid flint
#

7C56v1I1?

elfin quartz
#

msi mpg b550 gaming plus

#

yes

rapid flint
#

it might be the AGESA causing it

elfin quartz
#

what is the agesa

rapid flint
#

try the one before it, released 3-21-2024

#

should be AGESA 1.2.0.C

#

the latest one is a beta update for the .C agesa

elfin quartz
#

the older one still has .C but the new one has .Ca?

rapid flint
#

yep the new one is Ca

#

but it’s a beta version

elfin quartz
#

ugh i see

#

i did not know that

rapid flint
#

the “a” at the end represents alpha or first beta version

elfin quartz
#

ah I see

#

rebooting now

elfin quartz
rapid flint
#

it won’t let u roll back the version?

elfin quartz
#

No, I did

#

frame issue is still apparent

rapid flint
#

okay u might have to use a monitoring tool to see what’s going on

elfin quartz
#

afterburner?

rapid flint
#

something like msi afterburner and rtss and see the cpu, gpu, and ram frequencies

#

since u reflated the bios, make sure to change the xmp setting again to enabled as well as the cppc and preferred cores settings to disabled

#

also, if u are using SAM, try disabling it as well in bios

elfin quartz
#

What is Sam

rapid flint
#

SAM is probably labeled smart access memory

elfin quartz
#

Ok I couldn’t find SAM but I disabled the other 2 and enabled XMP

elfin quartz
#

I feel like im in over my head

rapid flint
#

run afterburner, it should also start RTSS. then run your game. then go back to RTSS and enable on-screen display

elfin quartz
#

ok its downloading

#

rtss doesnt seem to be opening

rapid flint
#

u can manually open it as well, just search for riva tuner statistics server in your start menu

elfin quartz
#

even when i double click the file

elfin quartz
rapid flint
#

double check on your notification section it's the monitor icon with red numbers

#

should look like this

elfin quartz
#

its open thank you

rapid flint
#

i gotta go sleep soon, hopefully someone chimes in and helps u figure this one out. if by tomorrow and it's still not fixed, i'll try to help out again once i get spare time

#

for now, just look at the on-screen display while playing and see what's dipping. it can be the cpu, gpu, or even the ram losing frequency for a micro second

elfin quartz
#

ok, im gonna sleep too and give it another try tommorow

rapid flint
elfin quartz
#

thank you for all you help

void hinge
#

if you still get stutter, sometimes making sure that spread spectrum is enabled in the CPU settings in bios can help fix stutter

#

can also make ram tuning more stable

#

it should be enabled by default on ryzen though, so probably not the issue

elfin quartz
void hinge
#

chipset or gpu?

#

are you using ddu to remove all drivers or only gpu?

elfin quartz
elfin quartz
elfin quartz
void hinge
#

well the stutter may just be the game. have you tried other games or was it just valorant?

elfin quartz
void hinge
#

oh then if the drivers are installed and it's doing that, you may have an overheating issue somewhere

elfin quartz
#

Really

void hinge
#

possibly

elfin quartz
#

Just idle?

void hinge
#

yeah, have you checked cpu and gpu idle temperatures?

#

motherboard and mb vrm?

#

can see that with hardware info or hardware monitor

elfin quartz
#

Ok I’ll try to find that

void hinge
#

hw monitor is possibly easier to use but hw info gives more information

#

your 5800x3d should be idling around 40-50c depending on your cooler

#

and gpu should be 30-40c idle depending on the model and case temperature

#

motherboard should be under 55c when idle

#

i have doom eternal running right now and my motherboard temperatures are all under 50c

elfin quartz
#

where is it on here?

#

sorry i am a noob when it comes to this

#

oh I got it

#

I think this falls within the heat range

void hinge
#

hmmmmmm

#

it could just be a windows issue or just the driver you're using

#

have you tried a different gpu driver version?

#

you dont need to be on the newest

elfin quartz
#

I tried 4 different driver versions

#

3 gaming ones

#

and even 1 studio one lmao

#

all cause the stutter right after installation

void hinge
#

well the only other thing it could probably be is the gpu is possibly defective

#

since that is the only thing that changed other than a driver install

#

before the bios update

#

what were you using before the 4060?

elfin quartz
#

RX6600

void hinge
#

have you reinstalled yet to see if you still get the stutter?

elfin quartz
#

yes

#

I dont get it

elfin quartz
void hinge
#

then it has to be the new card

elfin quartz
#

cant be windows

void hinge
#

i would rma and get replacement or refund and get a different model

#

rma with the retailer if you are still inn the return window

elfin quartz
#

what do you mean by rma

void hinge
#

return to manufacturer/retailer

elfin quartz
#

ok what if i got it off amazon

void hinge
#

start a return through amazon if it's still within the return window

#

if not, you have to rma with the manufacturer (asus, gigabyte, msi, etc)

elfin quartz
#

Ok sounds good

#

I appreciate your help

elfin quartz
void hinge
#

if you bought the cheapest model, that may be why it had issues

elfin quartz
void hinge
#

3 fan 4060? sheesh

elfin quartz
#

Yeah

void hinge
#

the card doesnt even get hot enough to need more than 2 fans

elfin quartz
#

Yeah haha it was on a good sale on prime day

void hinge
#

it might have just been a defective card tbh

elfin quartz
#

Yeah I just don’t know if I should get another one

void hinge
#

you could get a rx 6600 xt or 6650xt for cheaper and it would be a faster card, but you need to actually find one in stock

#

newegg has a bunch in stock

#

just not sure you will have a better experience with amd

elfin quartz
#

Yeah I guess I just wanted a better card to run vr but now it’s like idk if I want to even upgrade since I already have an rx 6600 so it wouldn’t be enough of an upgrade to warrant the price

void hinge
#

amd is shit with VR

#

if you get another nvidia card, i would just get a 4070 super

#

it's way more expensive but it will be a pretty big upgrade

elfin quartz
#

Ok

elfin quartz
elfin quartz
#

I might consider this
