@drowsy tidepost a few screen shots of your msconfig
ther may be some thing wrong with it
@slate vessel
also my gpu usage doesnt go above 80%, i read that it should at least be 90-100
cpu is at 60-70% max
gpu usage wont be maxed out if you are cpu limited already
i forgot what gpu you had i think you said gtx 1660 super or ti
oh yeah
they told me its not a huge bottleneeck
well, i dont know who agreed with me, but i suggested getting the high refreshrate monitor before the cpu upgrade since you were already getting up to i think 144fps
the gpu not running 90+% doesnt matter if you dont have the display yet
yeah but all of a suddeen i just kept geetting like 100-110fps aveeragee now
because you havent set xmp for your ram
you are still running it at 2133 jedec standard minimum speed
is my msconfig good or what
so how do i seet it at more
the msconfig is fine but im kind of thinking you may have a faulty module or something wrong with the motherboard or cpu if it wont allow for the max ram to work
well for now forget about doing that. you may need to return that ram you just got
i dont remember what your original 8GB module was spec'ed
its an older ram which i got, i didn't buy a new one
if i bought a new one i would go 3200mhz 2x8
ok but what was the original ram spec and what is the new ram?
the original is 2666mhz and for the older one i have no idea
well the older one is probably 2133 then
since your system defaulted to 2133 when it would possibly have defaulted to 2400-2666 to match the original module
well is it better to have 2 with 2133 or 1 with 2666
neither tbh
more ram is good but if it's very slow it doesnt help your game performance much except for maybe 1% lows
yeah, so... because it's an old module, it may be defective
or your motherboard has an issue with compatibility
also
@drowsy tidedid you ever update your bios to the newest version?
no, as i said i didn't touch bios
i don't even know how to update it
does this mean this mobo can handle 3200mhz
since it says overclocked
your motherboard can likely handle as high as 3600
it's 2 factors really. cpu and motherboard
if you had a ryzen 3000 or 5000 cpu you could likely run 2x8 at 3600
2x16 up to 3200
Ryzen 5 1600
A320m-HDV
rx 6600
1x8gb
these are my specs
what do you suggest to upgrade except ram
cpu or mobo first
you can run 2x8 3200 on that cpu without much issue
or should be able to
and if not 3200, 2933 or 3000 should work at the same specs
that doesnt matter if you havent got your high refreshrate monitor yet
there is no real point to worrying about not getting 100+fps if your monitor is still only 60hz max
yeah but i have stutters, that's a ram issue right?
a faster cpu will forsure increase performance, but you want to make sure you have a working set of 2 ram modules
you have stutter because you currently only have 1 module working for 8GB max
im sure you had the same issue without the "new" old module installed
is my mobo a must upgrade if i go with r5 5600
upgrading the motherboard means tearing the entire pc apart
was your current system a prebuilt?
i will consider a used cpu since i heard it harldy has issues
i forgot
yeah i bought it like 2018
and then swapped to r5 1600 like 4 years ago
well if you are going to upgrade the cpu, get a 5600 non x as minimum. if you are considering a 5600g, jsut get a r5 360 since it will probably be cheaper used since it's a previous generation
so you did swap the cpu?
there is a small chance you might have bent a pin when installing it
did you ever do a new windows install?
not me personally
what do you mean a new windows install
a whole system?
can you tell byu looking at the motherboard what it says for the revision number?. it would be something like hdv 1.0 to 4.0
no
i can google it
that doesnt work
you need to know specifcally from your own motherboard what revision you have because the bios version may be a different file. i need to go look that up
ok then you should have revision 4.0 of the a320m hdv
this is the bios download page for your specific motherboard
https://www.asrock.com/mb/amd/a320m-hdv r4.0/A320M-HDV R4.0 Rev 4.02.asp#Support
AMD AM4 Socket; 2 DIMMs, Supports DDR4 3200+(OC); 1 PCIe 3.0 x16, 1 PCIe 2.0 x1; Graphics Output : HDMI, DVI-D, D-Sub; 7.1 CH HD Audio (Realtek ALC887 Audio Codec), ELNA Audio Caps; 4 SATA3, 1 Ultra M.2 (PCIe Gen3 x4 & SATA3); 6 USB 3.2 Gen1 (2 Front, 4 Rear); Realtek Gigabit LANActual support may vary by CPU.
so to update the bios. you need a usb flash drive that is formatted to fat32
you just place the bios file from the archive file into the drive without any folders
just drag and drop it from the zip file into the usb drive
then you reboot and enter bios and go to the bios flashing part of the motherboard
what will updating bios do
it may make the module work by fixing a possible compatibility issue. normally that kind of issue would prevent the system from booting at all
im trying the easy things you can do since you dont have enough knowledge on this kind of issue
ill just buy 2 with 3200 and thats it
make sure it's a kit with 2x8. dont buy 2 modules individually
does your cpu/board even support that speed...
i will
it said 3200+ (oc)
@zinc cradle
good question
