I have tried everything I could possibly think of. Gone to device manager and the ethernet driver is installed properly and according to the website. It is up to date. Did a rain dance. Went to windows services and restarted the ethernet ones. changed DNS to 8.8.8.8 (google’s) I just don’t fucking know what else to try. I also screwed in the wifi dongle to the back I/O. The WiFi 6E works just fine on the same computer

#

It’s like 4 months old? here’s a picture of the parts

old steppe
#

Also make sure it’s not an 169 address

jolly zenith
#

like just type ipconfig?

#

my router log in is 10.0.0.1

old steppe
#

yea ipconfig

#

there’s lights flashing on the ethernet port right?

jolly zenith
#

Yeah, like I said the cable works fine for the PS5 and switch. But for some bullshit reason it won’t work now

#

with the PC*

old steppe
#

try releasing the IP and renewing it

#

remove the dns setting shouldn’t need that

jolly zenith
#

okay give me a minute

old steppe
#

i think we can rule out the cable since it works on your ps5

jolly zenith
#

yeah i just checked its flashing green

#

2.5GB one

#

@old steppe can I DM you ? some sensitive info from my IP

old steppe
#

yeah that’s fine

#

should be a private address so nothing serious

jolly zenith
#

Did you get my DM @old steppe ?

old steppe
#

you’re pulling a 169 address

#

which is why it’s not working

#

that’s a APIPA IP address

jolly zenith
#

a who

#

how can I fix it

old steppe
#

i’d disable ipv6

#

you tried renewing the ip right?

jolly zenith
#

I have not yet

#

it's like spinning

#

when i turned off ipv6

old steppe
#

what’s spinning

jolly zenith
#

when I turned off ipv6 my computer cursor starts spinning and does nothing

old steppe
#

weird

#

try restarting the PC

jolly zenith
#

It took forever to restart

#

so I shut it down the hard way

#

now ipconfig /renew isn’t working its just sitting there with the cursor

old steppe
#

something is bugged out with your network card

#

could still work

jolly zenith
#

I would hope not, I paid $750 for this

#

:(

#

oh it changed to a 10 address

#

what do we do now? It just took a few min

old steppe
#

hmm can you dm the ip settings

#

weird so it’s still not working?

jolly zenith
#

correct

old steppe
#

did you mess with these settings?

jolly zenith
#

not yet

old steppe
#

yeah just set it to automatic

#

i’d try releasing and renewing again

#

ipconfig /release

#

ipconfig /renew

jolly zenith
#

i am going to restart my router as well as reset network adapter

#

Are you a network engineer?

old steppe
#

no

#

but i work in IT

jolly zenith
#

Oh nice, me too

#

didnt get much network knowledge though

#

so thank you for filling in the gap for me

#

right now it says cant reach the dhcp server

#

while the ethernet network adapter is restarting

old steppe
#

yeah looking back at the picture u sent

#

the default gateway is on a ipv6 address

#

which is odd

#

could just be windows acting up

#

your router is set to 10.0.0.x ?

sand patio
#

did you ever restart the router?

#

i've found in a few cases that not rebooting or messing with command line in the router to "refresh" everything will sometimes make a different device not get an ip address on the same port if it's the same cable ran without changing ports on the router

#

usually not an issue if you're using a network switch between the router and the devices

jolly zenith
jolly zenith
old steppe
#

weird so it should be working then

#

otherwise it wouldn’t have pulled a 10.0.0.x address

#

i’d try flushing the dns

jolly zenith
#

I did that too :(

#

I’ll work on it tomorrow, might just do a fresh install of windows

#

its like 6:15 in the morning and I still haven’t slept

Just because the network wire worked in the ps5 doesn't mean its not bad, a wire could have a break and depending on position bridge itself, Always try another wire. Always.

If you don't have another long ethernet cable, move the computer closer.

#

and use a shorter one

jolly zenith
# old steppe any luck

I’ve reset my entire computer sadly with no luck. But wasn’t home very much today. I’ll probably try to see what I can do. I plugged the blue PS5 Ethernet into my PC and no internet. Then plugged the black PC Ethernet into my PS5 and it worked. Must be something with the board

#

oh yeah, also see if your motherboard has chipset drivers

#

most people dont bother installing them but sometimes you gotta

old steppe
flat nacelle
#

i know this sounds weird, but have you tried windows 10?

#

i had this same exact issue when i installed windows 11 on this pc, ipv6 was causing an issue as well

old steppe
#

yeah might be worth checking if it works on linux or something

jolly zenith
# old steppe where you downloading the driver from?

I’ve tried first armory crate. Then fully uninstalled, then I tried the ASUS APEX website, then fully installed. Then I tried the Asus website no Dr Phil fully uninstalled. Then I tried to wiping windows 11and it’s still broke as fuck @old steppe @flat nacelle . So I feel like I’ve done my due diligence….

jolly zenith
#

Oh and I literally am getting BSOD when my windows loads up now

#

Thank god I have a $297 ASUS MAXIMUS ROG STRIX Formula coming

sand patio
#

what happened when you tried to install it?

jolly zenith
#

Just a cmd window opening for like quarter of a second

sand patio
#

ok so try it again but this time make sure you have the driver installer downloaded. go into device manger and uninstall the i226 nic from device manager and then install the driver from the downloaded package

jolly zenith
#

Driver installer?

sand patio
#

driver installer package downloaded from the link i just posted

jolly zenith
#

Ah okay what is NDIS?

sand patio
#

network driver interface specification

jolly zenith
#

So I should or should not install that

sand patio
#

that is the newest driver posted on the motherboard driver support page

#

it specifically states it mitigates ethernet controller issues

jolly zenith
#

Ah okay I’ll DL it soon

sand patio
#

uninstall the network adapter from device manager after you download the driver package and then install the driver package once that is finished

#

dont reboot or shut down before installing the driver package

#

or you have to uninstall again

jolly zenith
#

Sorry if dumb but do I install NDIS and then 226?

sand patio
#

it doesnt matter it's for both 225 and 226

#

it has the windows 10 and 11 driver versions

#

just install the package dont worry what the title says

jolly zenith
#

Okay and I download asussetup.exe for i226?

#

Or whatever

sand patio
#

if something goes wrong though you can manually install the driver

sand patio
#

the ndis driver is for manual install only by the look of it, so unless you need that, ignore it

sand patio
#

download the driver before that

jolly zenith
#

I fixed it

#

I plugged the cable from the switch on the back of my “gateway” or whatever Xfinity calls them and put it in position #1

sand patio
jolly zenith
#

Port #2

#

So fucking stupid lol

sand patio
#

you should consider buying your own router to possibly avoid these issues. you would likely need a moca though

sand patio
#

i believe verizon fios still needs one if you want to still have coax for tv from the ONT and ethernet for your own router

#

not sure on xfinity

jolly zenith
#

I don’t know. But I will ask for a level 2-3 support agent

sand patio
#

your own cable modem and router combo should have coax in though so it shouldnt be required.

#

actually thinking about it now, the modem should work the same as a moca

jolly zenith
#

It does have a coax cable

#

The modem is also part of my Xfinity piece of gateway. It’s also a firewall, switch, and router

#

But these fuckers need to switch my channels to 1, 6, 11

#

I hate Xfinity lol

#

I did buy another switch for it. I’ll just use it for my console

sand patio
#

i doubt that thing has simultaneous dual 2.4GHz

#

do you know what channels it's been using?

jolly zenith
#

My 4 VR headset controllers and 3 vive trackers. My Phillips Hue bulbs and light strips

#

All of them use 2.4GHz

sand patio
#

you can or should be able to add another router to the xfinity router to add more wifi for your specific use case

#

you just set the second router to AP mode
