#Slow download speed only on ethernet

I get 500 download on wifi. But whenever I try ethernet I only get 70-80 download. my upload is not effected both get 50+. This has been happening for the past month.
Last month I ran a optimization pack from a popular fortnite discord which had a folder with registery tweaks to lower ping etc. I would assume this is what is causing the issue cause the issue occurred when i ran the tweaks. I figured reinstalling windows would revert all registry changes etc. but it doesnt seem it did. any fixes?
Things i have tried:
Reinstall windows
reinstall/update network drivers
I have also installed intel adapter configuration app and it shows this

agile robin
#

Have you tried a different Ethernet wire

trim birch
#

yes just bought a new one yesterday

#

its a cat8

agile robin
#

Looks like the adapter only goes to 100

trim birch
#

and my dad gets 1500 download on his pc from the same router

agile robin
#

Damn what do you have Verizon new 2 Gig

tulip lantern
#

depends what your ethernet is even going to

#

is it the modem or a switch

#

router?

agile robin
#

It says 100mbps for the speed

trim birch
trim birch
tulip lantern
#

what model is the netgear

agile robin
#

That is weird. Worth a shot can always return it just to see

tulip lantern
#

is this a laptop?

#

why does it say you have two

trim birch
trim birch
tulip lantern
#

it shows two ethernet controllers

trim birch
agile robin
#

Is your pop stealing bandwidth possibly

tulip lantern
#

ah ok

trim birch
tulip lantern
#

tried both ports?

trim birch
#

yea

agile robin
#

And it’s 5g WiFi that’s getting killer speeds ?

trim birch
#

these are the reg changes i did

#

and im 90% sure its what is causing the isssue

#

but idk how to revert them

agile robin
#

Run speedtest by ookla

tulip lantern
agile robin
trim birch
#

thats with ethernet

agile robin
trim birch
agile robin
#

Run ookla on WiFi for me

trim birch
#

i can open the reg changes with notepad

#

and it shows everything it changed

agile robin
trim birch
agile robin
#

You can check by running regedit

trim birch
#

yea just did and i dont think these changes match

#

such as this one
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSMQ\Parameters]
"TCPNoDelay"=dword:00000001

#

thats from the notepad change

#

but in my registry thats not even there

agile robin
#

Let me see the WiFi speed on speedtest plz

trim birch
#

k

agile robin
#

Run ncpa.cpl

trim birch
#

thats wifi

trim birch
agile robin
#

No from run when right click on windows then run ncpa.cpl then Right click the adapter and go to properties

tulip lantern
#

try a different driver

trim birch
agile robin
#

Then go to configure

#

Click details

trim birch
#

yea

agile robin
#

Status

trim birch
#

yep

#

?

agile robin
#

Has problem

trim birch
#

hmmm

#

it does

agile robin
#

Right click the WiFi again and run the troubleshooter

trim birch
#

you know what any of that means?

agile robin
#

Should say driver loaded

trim birch
#

oh wait

#

i had ethernet disabled when i did the status thing

#

one sec

#

now it does lol

#

wait no wrong one a

agile robin
#

Also check pci max link speed

trim birch
trim birch
agile robin
#

Same window

#

Scroll down

trim birch
agile robin
#

Ok that’s good. Run the troubleshooter

trim birch
#

this one?

agile robin
#

Yes

#

And then go back to the network connections and double click on the adapter

#

It’s a separate thing but can be done while troubleshooting

trim birch
#

tried 3 of them all said "trouble shooting couldn't identify the problem"

agile robin
trim birch
agile robin
#

Yeah, that adapter can only go to 100

trim birch
#

it can though

#

so whats stopping it?

agile robin
#

You can also hit details

#

And diagnose

trim birch
#

it couldn't identify the problem

agile robin
#

88 is normal on 100 doesn’t always max out

#

From elevated cmd run Netsh int tp set global autotuninglevel-normal
ок.

trim birch
#

Netsh int tp set global autotuninglevel-normal

#

that entire thing?

agile robin
#

Yes

trim birch
agile robin
#

That’s weird hold on a sec I’m going to try on my pc

#

Try ipconfig /release and then ipconfig/renew

trim birch
#

i have a feeling its the driver i installed

agile robin
#

Also ipconfig /flushdns

trim birch
#

done

agile robin
#

Netsh interface tcp show global

trim birch
agile robin
#

Tcp. Sorry mistype

trim birch
#

also i just click update driver and windows updated it

#

but its still 100mbps

#

driver is now 1.1.3.34

agile robin
#

K now try netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal

trim birch
agile robin
#

K just press up button and run command before last again

trim birch
#

done

agile robin
#

Pic plz

trim birch
#

like that right?

#

or did you mean that?

agile robin
#

Your good. Now netsh interface tcp show heuristics

trim birch
agile robin
#

netsh interface tcp set heuristics disabled

#

netsh advfirewall firewall add rule name="StopThrottling" dir=in action=block remoteip=173.194.55.0/24,206.111.0.0/16 enable=yes

trim birch
agile robin
#

Run speedtest

trim birch
#

😦

agile robin
#

Got a few more but again 100 doesn’t always run at 100

#

Try a different provider on speedtest

#

Change server

trim birch
#

k

#

ill run a test on my dads pc too

#

just to make sure its me

agile robin
trim birch
agile robin
#

Just about maxed out

trim birch
#

This is my dads pc

agile robin
#

I use these for my laptops with 100 network cards

#

Check his adapter tho

tulip lantern
#

@trim birch i have the same netowrk card and this is the version im on it works normal

agile robin
#

Run ncpa.cpl and double click adapter

trim birch
agile robin
#

Yep 1 gig adapter

trim birch
tulip lantern
#

you can try rolling it back

trim birch
trim birch
agile robin
#

If you have 2 did you try the other one?

trim birch
#

nvm it rolled back to this one

#

this is where i went to update my driver

trim birch
agile robin
#

I have Verizon and this is as fast as I can get with 25 other devices running

tulip lantern
#

but i let windows updates install mine

trim birch
agile robin
#

Your best bet for drivers would be your motherboard type make and model

agile robin
#

If a cd came with your MB it has all the drivers you need

trim birch
#

i think a small usb did

#

but idk if i have it anymore tbh

agile robin
#

Then you’ll have to go to the MB website and drivers for that make and model

#

What z690 is it.

trim birch
#

classified

agile robin
#

Ok so you were in the right place

trim birch
#

i found the usb

agile robin
#

Sweet

#

Auto run that beeatch

trim birch
#

just install these id assume?

agile robin
#

There you go brother

#

I’d install them all

trim birch
#

bet

agile robin
#

Maybe not raid unless your using that

trim birch
#

no i dont

agile robin
#

Let me know how it goes.

trim birch
#

👍

trim birch
tulip lantern
#

do you have any programs that might be controlling your network card?

trim birch
#

not that i know of

#

i reinstalled windows this morning

#

and only installed discord and my browser

#

i dont even think it changed my driver

tulip lantern
#

if you click update driver

#

and then select let me choose

#

you can see all the drivers

#

thats installed

#

but you can only choose one at a time

trim birch
#

i dont see where i can choose?

tulip lantern
#

browse

trim birch
#

ahh i see

#

i installed the same one you have

tulip lantern
#

still slow?

trim birch
#

let me check

#

nah still 90

tulip lantern
#

must be something else then

#

you sure theres nothing installed?

#

sometimes the motherboard use some utility software or people install software designed to control some parts of the pc

#

those usually suck

trim birch
#

from my knowledge yes im 99% sure i didnt install something

#

but im 0% sure something auto installed

#

any way to check?

tulip lantern
#

just look at your installed programs in settings

trim birch
tulip lantern
#

hm yeah i dont see anything

#

does the ethernet cable go directly to the router? or does it go to the wall

trim birch
#

router

agile robin
#

You can check your router also but doesn’t seem like that’s the issue if your pops machine is cranking.

tulip lantern
#

could check and see if theres a setting on the modem

#

or try connecting directly to the modem and see if its slow

agile robin
#

If you have xfinity type 10.0.0.1 in browser and find the admin code on your router type that in and u have full access to the router

trim birch
#

I have my xfinity modem in bridge mode. Then my netgear router in router mode connects to my xfinity modem

#

So I can’t really connect to my xfinity modem

#

Cause it doesn’t give internet unless you connect to the netgear box

#

I can try turning off bridge mode

agile robin
#

You don’t want to make things worse. If your ISP will come out for no charge I’d let them. They may be able to troubleshoot on site it’s much easier

#

It if you go in the router just make sure your only looking not changing stuff unless you research it first

trim birch
#

yea I wont

#

my isp comes out no charge but I really dont think its me wifi

#

i think its my pc

#

but I dont know ill try to do some more research my self

#

but it seems everyone else is stumped lol

#

thanks for helping as much as you guys could

agile robin
#

I’ll come back when I have some time and check on you.

#

You can try this and return if doesn’t make a difference or you don’t need it.

forest tangle
#

what's the path from the original modem to your pc? what all is connected in between?

trim birch
forest tangle
#

i would do a test with a direct ethernet from your modem to your pc to verify if its a pc problem or maybe something with your router

trim birch
trim birch
#

well after an hour of reading multiple threads etc. nothing is working so I'm assuming both of my ethernet ports must have gone bad or something. which I don't believe at all but I don't see any other answer

tulip lantern
#

why would the modem be in bridge mode?

#

didn’t know you could do that with a modem

agile robin
#

Does your pop pc use that bridge.

forest tangle
#

did you try the direct connection to modem? I think bridge mode won't have any affect here since we're just testing 1 connection

agile robin
#

Also does your pops pc use that bridge?

trim birch
trim birch
forest tangle
#

so off bridge mode and directly connected to the modem, still have issues? have you tried booting to another OS like ubuntu to see if the connection is still slow?

tiny sable
#

Does the ethernet go right into the modem/router or is there a hub in the mix?

pastel dagger
#

have you tried changing this?

trim birch
trim birch
pastel dagger
#

lol

#

but yes, after seeing in the evga site, it is indeed a gigabit

trim birch
#

The network adapter?

#

I think it’s intel no?

pastel dagger
pastel dagger
#

are you connecting on which port in your modem?

trim birch
trim birch
pastel dagger
trim birch
#

but ive ran 1200mbps on the same router and modem like a month ago and my dad also gets 1000mbps on the same router

trim birch
#

yes

tulip lantern
#

could test it on linux or something see if it’s os/driver related

tiny sable
#

LETS NOT WASTE ANY MORE TIME, TAKE YOUR PC OVER TO YOUR FATHERS DESK UNPLUG HIS ETHERNET AND PLUG IT INTO YOUR COMPUTER

#

test it

#

if its fixed then you have a hub/cabling issue

#

if its not fixed then you have a port issue on your pc

#

at this point if it ends up being a port issue you might want to consider a new ethernet adapter

trim birch
#

update just bought a new PCIE Network Adapter and am still getting 100 mbps. so I'm stumped because i have already tried
New ethernet cord
New Network Adapter
New install of windows
New router

#

only thing i can assume is its something within windows but i have reinstalled windows it doesn't make sense?

tulip lantern
#

you got a new router?

tulip lantern
forest tangle
#

try using ubuntu or another OS

trim birch
#

actually just fixed it and its the weirdest reason why. It was the cable even after buying a brand new cable. I managed to use a friends old one and it get 1000 download with it. So yes the brand new cat 8 I bought must have been faulty and was only getting me 100 download, same with my old ethernet cord. which tbh makes no sense how they both out of nowhere just break but atleast its fixed
