Was thinking about making a colorful tail, but it would make so much sense for X to initially think Kai is just a regular fish if he had a regular looking tail. Plus, adding on to the mermaid lore that until X just hauls dude out of the water, Mermaids had never been seen before outside of fairy tails partly because the only ones that survived were those that had plainer colors that weren’t vibrant (survival of the fittest)
