So here's where we come back to our original story

Kai is now struggling to attain knighthood, maybe because he isn't able to quite understand and control his partner, X

Also since X and Era are both attuned to nature, that would explain their excellent synergy

Not this moping brat, that cant even be bothered with manners

Kai probably does it at first, but it’s the whole customary thing. X knows, and it bores him he cuts Kai off, wanting to know what he really wants, and Kai fails, he can’t prove himself, he just knows what his father tells him, he’s a mere puppet. It’s only when Kai can prove to X he is more than his legacy. That he’ll approve of him

Kai had to abandon all that he’s learnt and been taught to work with X. And it’s hard, nigh impossible.

I don’t even think Kai’s father would pick X for him at first. Just pick a centaur that listens, but no. My son has to be stubborn, and pick the most uncooperative centaur, and fail.

And Kai has disappointed. I’d like to imagine Estelle tried taming X and failed horrendously, got up and picked someone else. so if Estelle couldn’t do it, how could Kai?

And this is the whole part where Kai proves his father wrong, he doesn’t quit. He’s adamant on X, despite a failure. He wont quit. And that’s what separates him from Estelle

She quits, he doesn’t

It works so well and it feels so good and they both know that they would have no one else

X cannot let anyone violate his autonomy like that. Never again
