#Stuttering/Rubber Banding With Fine Ping

Are you guys playing with a teammate in the same Squad in ranks? I've seen that most of the times this kind of thing happens to me is when I'm playing with a friend
Rn for example I'm playing solo queu, but a few hours ago i was playing with two friends and my connection was horrible
it's so bad today for some reason lol
fwiw, no other big bandwidth users, happens in solo queue and playing with friends, QP and normals are affected (have not played comp for fear of bringing my team down), time of day doesn't seem to make a difference
I've been getting this too. Had another thread going about it for a while. Happens in all sorts of conditions. Some senior players told me it's probably packet loss. Out of curiosity, are y'all on ethernet or wifi?
This is happening to me too. I play on the Switch and use wifi. The dock doesn't seem to have a energetic cable, plus the cable plug-in is heavily messed up.
picked up a cable today and it's making all the difference
So something I have noticed with myself as well as a friend, we are using ethernet cables, but we have Verizon 5G as our service provider. We both seem to have intermittent issues like this, and when I went to a different friend's house with my same computer, I had little to no issues. I'm fairly confident that Verizon plays a factor into at least my issues. Not sure if anyone else out there has noticed anything like that.
i'm on wifi, but i never get lag in other games. i might try a VPN, since i've heard other people say that helps?
what's strange about it, to me, is the fact that everyone else is moving smoothly whenever it happens, but that could just be me not understanding how online games function
That would make sense considering Verizon 5G is wireless, so it's still vulnerable to packet loss
So the way packet loss works is the wireless signal from your PC doesn't always reach the router and because of that some data from your inputs occasionally gets lost. So you lose some of your inputs but other people don't. If you have an ethernet connection you can really cut down on the packet loss
(not a big computers guy, so please forgive if my explanation is a tiny bit off)
mmmm, that makes sense to me, yeah. shame wired isn't really an option for me ;~;
yeah, I was just in the Knowledge Gap tourney and had to grab a 50ft cable during my lunch break at work to make it happen. Did wonders for me though
are there other ways to help with packet loss? running a 100ft cable across my apartment really isn't feasible
It can happen between your pc and the router, but it can also happen the entire way from your router to the server which is pretty much entirely out of your control :/
depending on your apartment's wiring, there are powerline adapters that let you send an internet signal through your electrical sockets to emulate an ethernet. Results vary but sometimes they can be pretty close to a real ethernet.
oh shit now i suddenly have that bug too so annoying
Been getting this since the first patch of official release. Was hoping it had been fixed since it made me quit. I was really excited for the battle pass since I wanted the zen skin but the game is unplayable like this. I assume it's a wi-fi issue but like others I can't run a massive cable through to the other room. Plus like- if it's a wi-fi issue how do switch and phone players manage if this has been going on so long???
i've run multiple speedtests that include packet loss, and none of them found a single thing. it's also way worse today than it's ever been (probably not a coincidence), so i have to assume it's an issue with the server that's out of my hands, i guess :<
yeah, it's. unplayably bad today. this really feels like the servers just, not receiving the packets that i am sending
its been happening to me the past couple days. ( excuse the audio i was in discord with friends, mute if dont wanna hear a lil swearing)
its lead to me getting kicked out and getting the leavers penalty and its been basically every match
whoa that one is crazy severe I've never seen it that bad before
i even did a speed test right after cause it bothered me and nope
yeah 1% packet loss is nothing if you actually look it up
it certainly shouldn't be causing this kind of thing
1-2.5% is considered acceptable so for it to totally just derail the game is super weird
oh that's way worse than anything i've seen, wow
i'm tempted to suggest that that's a separate issue entirely
sadly this has been going on since release and still hasn't been fixed so idk if it ever will
It's why they implemented the packet loss % thing into the game to try and figure out more details about it
But idk if it even works cause it happened to me last game and I had 40-60ms and my packet loss was shown as 0% and would very occasionally (like once every 3-4 minutes despite me rubberbanding all around the map) jump to like 4% for 1 second then go right back to 0% so idk how it even measures packet loss
one thing that's concerning to me is that it only started like 2-3 weeks ago. never had a single connection issue for the first, like, month that i was playing
it seems to do that tbh
In the old discussion of this you'd have people come in like "hey this is suddenly happening to me too"
To capture and share your gaming highlights, download the Outplayed app on Overwolf
my hell
this is one of my worst cases
but the point still stands
tried a VPN to the west coast, all it did was double my ping :<
it happens to me too even after with brand new PC and brand new modem/wifi FTTC connection
xd i guess that who expirience this bug is just doomed for life
its not a problem of the user, but a problem of the game
we cant do nothing until it gets fixed
and i even tried repairing the game files from steam
didnt work
(this started happening to me months ago the new season)
yeah it just kind of happens randomly to people, hard to say if it randomly stops too because people tend not to post when stuff gets better and or stop playing because its so bad
feels like random people just get selected each patch lol
it's also worth posting any associated logs to be sure its the same thing
at least when I get it my logs look like this
even though the ingame packet loss thing didn't pick anything up
i don't know where to access logs like those. the in-game packet loss number does pick up when it happens, at least
ohhh, i see i see, ty!
Ideally you want the whole "Saved" folder or at least the "Logs" folder, some people post "SaveGames" by accident instead
so for me it's like this
should i upload the whole folder to here, or just specific files?
i do not have the technical knowledge to pick out the relevant parts of this ;~;
tbh just the most recent log file would do if you havent logged in since the session with the bug stuff
if you filted by date modified in "Logs" the most recent one just called OmegaStrikers.log should be it
rather than one of the backups
that is just a text file of everything that happened when you played, including any messed up position errors
right, makes sense
logs of my last session, was just running around in practice (i don't have it in me to play actual games right now lol). still had plenty of issues
ah yeah looks like you had something similar at 22:35 as juli, 22:37 as the umbrella guy a whole bunch, etc
the only solace I can give is it does come and go a bit in my experience, some days are much worse for no obvious reason
plus the devs know about it and they're fantastic peeps
I'm sure there will be a breakthrough soon
holy shit you poor guy lmao
yeah same for everyone else basically
the bug is packet loss with this game specifically even when it doesn't show up in the packetloss onscreen readout they added just to try and analyse this bug
It's rough for sure
put all my friends off until it's fixed :(
It's why I haunt these threads asking people for logs lmao
but at least in my case some days it's pretty much fine just happens at random
does mean I tend to avoid ranked now though
same for months xd
I bought odypoints to get the battle pass hoping that maybe it'd be fixed and now they're just sorta sat there unless I get lucky with good games
LMAO
is the bug fix team already on it to fix this one? or if we already know something
It started happening for me the patch they added the orb awakenings I think, like 3 months ago
ye same
yeah so they have known about it for a while, and they added the packet loss readout to try and work out what was up
they said the team was aware of it when I had a ticket back then
but I haven't seen much from them directly addressing it in these threads since the patch before packet loss readout was added where they said "don't worry about logs until packet loss is tracked"
i could try reach out to Kisu when he goes for a stream and ask him if he knows something about this one and if he can give any updates on it
(Kisu is a bug fixer dev for Odyssey)
considering how many posts there are about it, especially since the big new patch, and how many posts there are in this old long running massive thread about it
they at least know it's an issue and I would assume they just don't want to address it until they have a concrete fix maybe?
having a micropatch full of bug fixes will be more worth for me than a micropatch that adds more contet to the game tbh
it's just something really hard to pin down since it's on all platforms, multiple regions, direct ethernet connections etc
yeah, i find it hard to believe that they're not working on this
yeye i can imagine
like if it was just EU or something, it'd be like "oh must be the EU servers"
hence my consistent returning to this thread to update on what has and hasn't helped
or just on Switch or something
or like, honest to goodness wifi packetloss that shows up on readouts and would be fixed with hardwired connection
but it seems super hard to find stuff to connect the dots at least from my outside perspective
I've only ever gotten involved in this sorta stuff when I've had issues with tf2/league/omega strikers and done a dive into my settings and my ISP's route to the servers etc
so I'm just a casual trying my best
a friend suggested a traceroute, but i can't find the server's IP address anywhere to do that
yeah idk, I used to do that for league but their IPs are public
can just google those
Idk enough to know how to try for omega
ah tbf looks like it is in the logs but idk if they want us messing with it lol idk if it's ok
perhaps time I reopen ticket and try ask that stuff direct idk
i mean we would just use it on the cmd with the ''ping -n 50 [enter ip]'' just to test it
isnt harmful for anyone
the thing that's confusing though is if it's the route to server how can it be like, happening to NA and EU etc but again idk I'm not a professional
ok this is out of my depth I think lol
so they use amazon servers for this game
and trying to traceroute fo one of the servers you guys used for your buggy games just rerouted me to one of amazon's NA servers and then timed me out
a h
which is presumably something amazon does to random unauthorised or otherwise orphaned connections
but would have to ask someone that knows what they're doing to be sure lol
for what i know they are trying their best to fix it, and should be more playable and more uncommon to encounter this bug
still i have it every game i had tonight
i haven't had a single smooth round in like, 2 weeks lol
there may be some exceptions that involve, like, near-instant goals
but any round that lasts more than like 8 seconds has some stinky in it
is it just me, or has the packet loss issue gotten much worse now?
this morning I didn't expirienced any packet loss but last game I did couple of minutes ago a had 2 light packet loss
yesterday night it was unplayable for me kekw, it's just different from people to people
yeah it was a lot worse for me this mornign than yesterday night
it's been worse during peak hours in my experience
help
Has been happening almost every game
Rubber banding with zero displayed packet loss
Gets really bad at night
there's defo something going on there because there's no way you're losing 90% of your packets
same
the thing is that is too much frequent and the only thing i can do is dealing with it
Yeah not sure what it can be checked my internal specs my Pc isnt even on 40% capacity with the game and thats with stuff running
Got an ethernet cable the whole thing just no clue
I shall forever be stuck in High bronze it seems lol
until odyssey bug fix team doesn't fix this server problem
it literally felt like 90% packet loss, nothing worked except for movement
i pressed strike and primary maybe 20 times before one them came out and it still came out maybe a full second later
then again its probably also due to my internet being bad and me being on laptop
im loving it
so much that im gonna uninstall omega strikers for how much unplayable it is
literally i cannot move my character anymore gg
yeah it really is just the most infuriating bug i've seen in any game
I just quick play my weeklies/dailies as fast as I can while trying not to be too much of a burden because I can't play comp like this
i haven't opened the game since day 1 of the season because it's just not fun with this going on
ye, i was like this before the season, but now the only purpouse ive to stay is to do those missions asap and go do something else later, even if i wanna play more i know that i will not be able to
If y'all didn't see my above message, if you are able to access it, ethernet makes a complete difference for me. Forgot to plug the cable in before playing earlier and it was a nightmare. Plugged it in, no more stutters
given everything i've tried, and the isolated nature of the issue, i don't know if i have much faith in ethernet even if it were an option :x
This was one of the worst cases yet. Every game I play has at least 2-3 rubber-bands.
is insane how much I could see myself in that gasp 😮💨
that happened to me the other day but it was the splash map
saw the big cannon charge up but was like psh it's fine I can just walk out of it and now I am dead
kinda insane how much synergy the laser has with buggy servers
i miss queues with matchmaking
