Obviously there'd be teams he'd come to like from meeting the members, but none of the ones with a pre-existing reputation really seem like something he'd attach himself to.

I mean yea a lot of her motivation stems from wanting respect and admiration as her own person, but this ain't Pinocchio she's not the classical human brand of human. Glad things stuck out to you! A lot of those portions was me trying to reconcile how these two essentially met off of the street in one of the largest cities to ever exist in history, quickly formed a friendship of sorts out of it, and then started rooming together.

They're both such vastly different characters, so I wanted to portray how their lifestyles and mannerisms clash in a way that's sensible for an early relationship of any kind, while pinning down the underlying connection of why they're really going through with this arrangement so swiftly. That reason being opposites attract, and whether they realize it or not they've both got an underlying attraction for each other.

I definitely can see the platonic angle people take with these two, but I think some romantic undertones almost in an unrealized "love at first sight" sort of way do a lot to help strengthen why they're in the position they've reached narratively. They're both attracted to eachother, but neither of them have enough relationship experience to realize it, and even if they did, hold their cards too close to the chest to act on it.

Now you've got me curious, could you build more on this line? Everyone reads things a little differently, but that's not quite what I got out of either Ai.Mi or Zentaro's stories. I think I can see where it comes from, but maybe I'm missing something.

Zentaro's motivations as implied by the last line in his comic strip is a search for acceptance, though the game's story text on the topic has him lean far more into the family angle. Where he's not leaving home with any particular aim for himself in mind, so much as leaving to spare his parents the trouble he faults himself for.

Regardless, the acceptance motivation is resolved once Zentaro reaches Ahten. He's found a place where people accept him for who he is with no concern whatsoever. His mission moves entirely to getting his parents to Ahten, and restoring what little of a life he had and then promptly lost. He's definitely still an outcast in some way, but I see it as not for lack of acceptance so much as being a stranger in a foreign land.

To contrast, I don't think I would call Ai.Mi an outcast at all. At least, not in the traditional sense. She's accepted by the people of Ahten, but for the wrong reasons. To those around her she's a mascot more than a person, and while that earns her plenty of attention, people don't take her seriously. It's why I view Ai.Mi's motivations less as a search for any sort of acceptance, and more a desire to prove herself. Whether she likes it or not she's distinctly different from a normal person, and there's some achievement surpassing station messaging that I think shines through in that. She aspires to be more than what she is or was created to be, and was given the means to make it happen.

Outcasts seeking acceptance is definitely a theme in their tales, but I don't see it as quite so significant, or a core motivation for their respective characters. Definitely something to think on.

Apologies if massive wall of text was a little much, but you got my brain going and I just can't stop myself sometimes LOL. This sort of stuff is so fun to think about!

To me, I interpret Ai.Mi as an outcast because even though shes accepted by Ahten, shes not seen as human. She seen as celebrity figure which doesnt give her normalcy like a normal person would

i always saw their stories as like outcasts grouping up in someway. Ai.Mi and Zentaro work the best for their narrative if you interpret them differently but Finii is the one i struggle with

Yup, which is exactly where I think the "surpassing station" motif comes into play, as her critics are right in a sense, and her motivation is to prove that she's more than what she seems.

That gets really interesting when paired with Zentaro's motivation of essentially just wanting to get his family to Ahten and chill. Ai.Mi is aspiring to be something more continuously, while Zentaro simply wants to rebuild what he already had.

Once the two get paired closer, you can start writing the two into a situation where one pulls the other further down their line of progress. Ai.Mi helps Zentaro aspire to fame, and reach heights beyond what he thought himself capable of, or Ai.Mi learning to settle for the battles she's already won even if she can't be a pro league champ who's on top of the world. A story where she learns to value the little aspects of this life she's been granted.
