On the contrary I'd assume it's where he's not from. As Zentaro lived on an island with a human settlement and an oni settlement, wherein he lived in the former. The island was both specified to be lacking in technological advancement, and heavily discriminatory.

Due to the latter presumably being an issue on both sides your point is probably true, but Oni village both on stage and in its background looks way higher tech than I'd be expecting considering Zentaro's limited understanding of technology. As a result while I expect the developer intention is that it's the Oni village from that island, the visuals of the stage don't really back up their own claim of how the place operates so it's kinda confuzzling.
