#In-Siege Guild Lineup Window UI/UX Improvements

See diagram; I have the following UI/UX suggestions.

  1. DISPLAY CLASS INFORMATION

Problem: Understanding the class composition of the six people you have inside the arena requires you to stop, thinking about whose name maps to what class, and is a non-trivial cognitive load.

Solution: Add class icons to the line up window. This allows a player to know instantly, with a glance, what their compisiton is inside the arena. You will know immediately if you have an RM or not, or if you're at a disadvantage due to too many supports, or if your particular DPS composition is not ideal for who you're fighting. It's a small visual change that has a big impact on the user experience.

  1. VISUALLY DISTINGUISH WHO IS SPAWNING FROM WHO IS SPAWNED

Problem: The top 6 is broken out as a separate group from who is idle and waiting to spawn it, but there is a 10 second window from the time someone dies to the time someone is actually inside. Who is actually inside and who is only counting down to spawn is not obvious.

Solution: Separate those inside from those spawning in, and those spawning in from those who are waiting to spawn. There's an opportunity to also show a 10 second countdown timer and their currently selected spawn, which would let the team plan around their arrival, or give them instructions on where else to spawn. But even just visually separating those inside from those about to be would be huge.

  1. CLICKABLE NAME PLATES

Problem: In the mess of players, it can be very difficult to select the player you want so you can buff them, or if you're inside, so that you can give them defensive cooldowns such as holy guard and barrier. If you're in a party with them, that difficulty is alleviated somewhat, however you can only have 8 players, and it's not necessarily obvious at a glance who in your party is actually inside and next to you.

Solution: Make the line up nameplates clickable. Clicking on it will select the player immediately, assuming they are in range to be selected. This immediately resolves the difficulty related to max-8 in party, and for who is near you. Also allow this to select players in DI.

  1. OPTIONALLY SHOW BUFFS

Problem: Who is buffed? Who still needs buffs? Are they max buffed or do they have level 14 buffs? Do they have GT? How much time is left on their buffs? Is the person going in next buffed?

Solution: This shouldn't be an always-on thing, rather something you can toggle (button next to the arrow that collapses it?) but would be a valuable addition to the UI/UX from the RM perspective.

With 3/4, as a buffer RM I can:

  • Immediately know who still needs buffs
  • Immediately know the order of how to buff my team
  • Immediately click and select the player who needs buffs

As an RM inside, I can:

  • Immediately tell if my team is buffed, or if someone inside with me needs buffs
  • Recognize if someone didn't get GT and still needs it

These would be huge improvements to the player experience, both from surfacing important information about my team mates, but also dramatically improving the buffering experience. It's already a hectic nightmare to buff your team, especially if you're cycling quickly. Getting your team buffed is an unnecessarily stressful activity that can be much improved through these changes.

  1. SHOW IT TO MORE THAN JUST WHO'S IN THE LINEUP.

Problem: The lineup window, player lives and order status are visible only to players in the line up. Often there are more players actively contributing to team dynamics than just those 15 players in the line up.

Solution: Add a guild permission to allow certain roles to also see the guild line up. E.g., when enabled, say kingpins and captains could see it, but supporters and rookies could not. This mitigates "spying" opportunities.

Filtering by buffs that come from a ringmaster would be nice PeepoSmile

AIGHT FEEDBACK TIME:

  1. The max width is less than the total number of possible buffs (fast walker, etc) which causes the window to continually resize. Really suggest that this basically only shows buffs that others can place.
  2. Really hoping we give the lineup (or something like it for clicking, maybe just the people in the arena in the list) to people outside the active lineup.
