That nickname is certainly.... a choice.

Anyway, I feel like this is going to vary depending on the person, but in my experience, 1 hour of immersion will maintain my current level.

I think it depends on your current level. I think at lower stages it takes more time to maintain than at a higher level. I don't think going much lower than an hour a day would be good at stage 2 if you want to maintain what you've already learned.

i started only counting actual immersion for this reason. i had like 330 hours before

#

so yeah, if you do need cut back to that minimum 1hr a day, make sure it's only immersion youre counting for that time.

#

that doesn't mean DON"T prime. but think of immersion as the macronutrients (Protein, Carbs), and the priming as the micronutrients (vitamins, minerals).

micronutrients are important, but they don't actually keep you from being hungry by themselves.

Oh yeah, good point. 1 hour of immersion. And then Anki and other stuff should be in addition to that hour, if you choose to do Anki or grammar study. Thanks for pointing that out, Natsu YotsubaPray

In my experience, breaks have led me to better Japanese basically always, so even if at first I get a bit rusty, the break itself makes it so that I feel like I absorb a lot more Japanese when I am back, and in a few days I tend to feel like I'm better than before
