I can't get subs to work with mpv but they work with asbplayer

sub-font-size=75```I tried removing everything from it except sub-auto=all but that still wouldn't work
I see the subs that are integrated with the video file but not my own sub files
these are the integrated subs
downloaded jp subs don't display anything
The sub visibility is on. the subs aren't offset, I checked with asbplayer and the subs are offset by half a second at most, I should still be able to see them

is it important for the subs to be named the same
like I use sub-auto=all and it loads all the sub files that are in the folder and I select the one I want
idk that's kinda the way I wanna do it
