#Xiaomi Poco F5 custom ROM saga

I moved the file into my download folder.
Do I need to check any other settings @jovial jackal-chi?
lol the title
no need for other options
you can add more zips too like magisk if you please so
tbh just sideload it
I downloaded the newest version from the XDA link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/evolution-x/files/marble/13/
Pixel UI, Customization & More. We Are Evolution X!
no need to keep moving around the same thing
ADB sideload?
adb sideload can be finicky at times
Uh what's the difference with that?
the computer streams the zip file to twrp
you just serve the file from pc instead of copying it or moving it to the phone manually
I already moved it over from my computer to the download folder.
thats fine too
adb serves the file in a stream and then the file is flashed automatically in twrp
you can delete the zip file after all
no need if you already flashed from internal storagr
just reboot
Hmm it failed.
I swiped to flash in this step.
Unlocking bootloader wiped it and then I manually wiped it again.
then tap the format data button
Uh do I click on reboot?
sometimes it solved weird issues i had
Oh nvm I can go back.
your phone wont boot probably
also if you format data you'll lose the zip file
I think it did wipe out most files but it left all the default files like alarm and ring tones in.
Maybe that's why it failed.
you can also sideload like whoami said but anyway
normal wipe only deletes the /data/data folder which is where all the system settings and app data is stored
formatting data will wipe the data partition
an advanced wipe like a linux user is the way
Instructions say adb sideload <filename.Zip>. I need to find the adb folder on my computer?
Or just give the path of the zip and use that command?
just zip path
Ty ty
you can use tab to autocomplete filename
Should I have made a backup of MIUI before I wiped or isn't that a big deal?
I guess I can always reflash MIUI 14 if something happens.
you can download stock rom if you need to
Okay, all good then.
iirc there's xiaomi's official tool that downloads and flashes for you
I didn't have any important files, so I should be good then.
Should I leave the bootloader unlocked after flashing?
you can
also probably you shopud
because locking bootloader will prevent booting custom roms
Yeah maybe if something breaks it is better to leave it unlocked in case I need to clean flash.
unless you're a baller with a pixel
I think Xiaomi doesn't provide a way to sign images for obvious reasons.
So that would maybe brick my phone.
theyre just cheap
All images from Evolution X are unsigned.
not really an issue
what would be an issue is the selinux mode
permissive isnt what you want to see
you can look up in the system settings
I don't care as long as my banking app doesn't complain.
I heard from Av1 that it should be fine if I don't root.
I hope it doesn't care about an unlocked boot loader.
permissive selinux is like having antivirus disabled
and what makes android secure is selinux
In TWRP?
Or once I boot into my custom ROM?
Did the sideload do the job or is it still not flashed?
My apologies, I am new to this xD.
from the screen shot i guess its fine
So, I should give rebooting a shot now?
lmao ik, its fine
yup
Honami-chi do you make backups?
On TWRP?
I guess it isn't needed rn since I don't have any important files on it.
if it fucks up you can always reboot to recovery with a vol button + power combination, the exact combinatiopn depends on the model
And my important stuff is backed up on the cloud.
I did hear that Yogi and Bucky hard bricked their phones but they used Mediatek phones xD.
used to do once a while, like once a months or whenever i remember because adhd prevents me making stuff regularly
mediatek isnt easy to flash roms onto
yaaay
looks nifty
youre welcome
look if selinux is enforcing or permissive
should be in about phone section
Oh I can just easily copy my old data over with a USB cable.
Does KDE connect also work on Windows and Mac?
Would be nice if I could use it in places other than Pop!_OS.
idk about macos but works on windows
can be unstable tho
sharing files wotk fine
also remotely locking and shutting down
I just want to share some images pretty quickly.
Now I just send them through a private Discord server but that's kinda inefficient.
a quick trick to share photos is to copy the photo and pasting on text bar
i do that on my iphone
works everywhere but idk about android
Maybe with Windows Phone it has some stuff.
just use sftp or something
Ah nearby share does exist: https://support.google.com/android/answer/13801258?hl=en
With Nearby Share, you can share: Images, videos, and documents between Windows computers and Android devices that are close together with Nearby Share. Files between your own devices or with pe
beware that it might try to limit your speed according to wan and stuff
kde connect does this
so just bare hotspot without internet should do
otherwise use robocopy from windows
if i recall correctly robocopy can write to network shares as well
oh under the hood?
what you said is kdeconnect with extra steps
yes
robocopy is much better performance
it use all the cool stuff under the hood
and works without me needing to enable hotspot
also kde connect has cool stuff like file manager integration
welcome to the android fuckfest of copying pixel experience os as base
i like the aosp ones instead, coherent to better tweaks
I dunno if that setting even exists tbh.
Oh it is enforcing.
youre all set then
enjoy your "new" phone:D
meanwhile this is the most up to date custom rom available for my device lmao
Galaxy S4 is still going strong iirc.
exynos died off on android 11, snapdragon died off at android 12
sadge
were the peak of custom roms
*lineage
sign with custom keys, xiaomi's signing keys are embedded in firmware forcing you to disabling AVB
are there still many developers active on it ?
