It seems when I unequip my items, my base level 1 swamp handicap is 35%.
When I equip items that increase that to ~40%, and then try to upgrade it, it says my swamp base handicap is 29.9%? Below the level 1 average?

it’s because some items/armour upgrade or make skills better or either it makes them resistant and worse

The moment you unequip an Item that lowers your CP it gets shown in red for a few seconds, same if u put something on that makes it higher, then the CP get shown in green for a few seconds.
Probably he/she just took the screenshot directly after taking something on or off that was making his/her CP lower.
