#Having Confusion between FFMPEG, Blur, and FlowFrames!
112 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
so blur is a program that will interpolate your video (basically create more frames) and then resample it down to 60fps, creating a motion blur effect which people in the minecraft community find appealing. This usually requires a high input fps because interpolation works best when there is a lot of visual information to work with.
flowframes does interpolation with a different technology, and can be good but is generally not the preferred method
👍
ffmpeg is mostly used for converting videos from one format to another, upscaling (in the case of ctt scripts) and used by programs by blur/flowframes to render videos
So I wouldn't need to really add a blur effect in mc by mods or in editing hmm
But aren't they all in which case trying to do the same job of upscaling?
Ah ok nvm so im guessing your saying Blur is the most beneficial ( does it also upscale the video? even though it uk makes a blur effect )
huh??
you got it wrong
this also
blur allows you resample your videos "like vegas" but also for interpolation
you can actually upscale directly in blur via ffmpeg using the correct ffmpeg filters
So FFmpeg is the only upscaler / compressor while blur and FlowFrames are the similar ones which resample your videos both trying to create a Blur effect
ffmpeg is video/audio encoding utility...

E
Basically upscaler because thats all Ik what it does Lmao
Basically what I have seen it been used for Lmao
Or compression both

as i said you can upscale via blur directly via ffmpeg when passing clips through it
But isnt doing it directly through your preferred script easier lol Instead of u tampering with each and every single filter......
reencoding multiple times isn't a good idea

consider this workflow
rec -> edit -> blur -> upscale
but i can just rec -> edit -> blur & upscale
make it simpler...
mhm
Also would blur work fine with High fps recording because uk in in game ur obv going to get more then 200fps on average with a mid ranger system
yeah it's preferred to use high fps recordings because otherwise you get artifacts

ok!
they are Similar to FFmpeg well they all do similar Task of upscaling and compression of videos
where did you hear from
"blur is a free, faster and open source alternative to #😴✨|flowframes and
FFmpeg's T-mix."
i just openly assumed it did the same tasks Lmao sry D:
Because if it was an alternative it be doing a similar task
Blur itself like the program provides the prebuilt in upscale / ffmpeg right? or do I get my own script lol
( dont judge Im a dumbass ik )
you need to use the correct args for that
but i don't remember which
well blur uses ffmpeg so you can do both at the same time or you can do it separately
args?
arguments
ah ok
well thats according to filters used... so im just gonna take it as its prebuilt into it
well afaik the default blur config doesn't upscale
wth is afaik??
as far as I know
Do uk how to configure so it does upscale lol ( bec i use a fucking TV for some reason as a monitor and its output is max at 720P and I need to Upscale it lol, to 1080pHD60fps not rly a large distance )
I mean upscaling only increases the quality on youtube because it gives the video more bitrate
so unless you are uploading videos there, upscaling wont make a difference in quality
so it would stay 720P but have a better bitrate....
eeee Idk what I was doing when I thought I knew what FFmpeg was lmao ( sry )
ok are you uploading videos to youtube or not?
I will soon Rn just setting up OBS, I keep finding problems lmao, or smth new that might help with recording ( Also a big problem with my vocals so I have to spend time working with those bec I got crappy mics )
this explains what upscaling does and why it can be helpful for youtube
otherwise it doesn't increase quality
Ah ok thx
Als one more thing
whats a benefit with flowframes ( is it smth I should Use or is blur all I need )
Blur is better in pretty much every scenario
especially if you can record 200+ fps
mhm
I average 200 - 300FPS during recording in MC
Sometimes going up to peaks of 600FPS for a couple of seconds so its quite variable but the most it averages it at is 200 - 300 FPS
also I checked out the video I get what FFmpeg Does but how can I configure Blur to Upscale videos too ( since Upscaling is still useful )
ye im doing filter presets for smoothie
so people can just type in very short amounts of text and it expands to a predefined preset
let’s say you type HEVCNVENC 4k in the filters
you‘lol have it compressed with nvenc in hevc and also have it upscaled to 4k
no need to remember to type « -vf scale=3840:2160:flag=neighbor »
im not even sure if i typed it correctly
Uhh wouldnt compressing it Also decrease the quality lol, plus upscaling it aswell would increase the size just being a drawbreaker
It wouldnt do anything...
So doesnt rly make sense...
when outputting a video from blur or smoothie you need to reencode it
that means you need to have even just a tiny bit of compression (unless you go full lossless)
I actually dont know what smoothie is lmao but im just gonna guess its like Blur
it’s a mandatory step that is lit as bad as you think
it is but i’m attaching rockets and complicated stuff to it
So it keeps the Upscaling but compresses the file size by a tiny bit ig thats good
i guess you can see it like that yeah
basically making Blur 2.0 With Filters that allow it too give u a compressed upscaled video file
blur could also do that
._. that actually sounds cool ( get it done quickly me want, because im not sure what settings to use in Blur to get my vid upscaled lmao )
when it’s encoding using ur cpu it is slow as shit and it already « compresses » it
I use x264 lmao
use the custom ffmpeg filters in #🔲|teknos-blur
Oh I missed those ig ( u should maybe make a video on blur honestly lmao just explain it all So ppl lazy and dumbass like me can understand lmao )
E Well idk how to fix the GPU honestly, whenever it records the audio comes out fine but the recording is pitch black nothing
And the end of the recording gives out a error
ok nvm now it works with VLC hmmm
idk weird
But in all honesty Is it really worth using the Rx 580 Radeon GPU I use to encode the video, or should I just stick with the Ryzen 9 3900x as my encoder
If u say Rx 580 Ill change it...
ur video player’s fault ye play it with vlc
it’ll encode faster but make bigger file (gpu is less efficient per filesize)
it’s not as easy as better or worse, ull need to pick ur poison
So im guessing its better for overall recording but the poison is that It will make a bigger file size, ig im fine with that ( most ppl are lmao )
Oh btw should I use Motion blur ( MC or In Editing with Blur )
also im dumb so im going to ask this stupid question which will most likely trigger one of u
Whats the difference between MPV and VLC LMAO
better video players then movies and tv thats for sure
well VLC is better then movies and tv too uk...
