Hello and thanks for stopping by my Cities: Skylines Pittsburgh Series thread! This is my first YouTube series where I will be completing a heavily modded, full-scale recreation of Pittsburgh, PA.

I plan on finishing the city in its present form so that I can use it as a basis to apply city planning techniques, improve traffic, increase walk-ability, increase transit options and transfer opportunities, complete city beautifying projects, and major infrastructure projects such as highway removal/covering.

Imagine making this city without mods (question)

I don't think it would be possible without most of the mods I'm using honestly!

Even with 106 mods I feel like I'm using every single one, but most important are 81 tiles, move-it, TMPE, Node Controller, Building Level Control, realistic population

Then there's some for realism related to Pittsburgh and the visuals like reversing tram AI, network skins, Procedural objects, repaint, theme mixer, intersection marking tool etc.

Only a few of the mods I use are for quality of life or making things easier, such as network multitool or zoom to cursor.

you use building level control, but you seem to plop most things, what is the benefit/use of the mod if you arent zoning?

That's a trick I learned from Redtherobot and their Boston Project. It's basically for population control so the simulation is easier to run. I usually limit low residential homes to around level 1 or 2 and High residential to level 1

I'm hoping to finish at around 300,000k population. I also go district by district and adjust with RICO and building level control to get each neighborhood to roughly the true population!

I'm too perfectionist when it comes too stuff like this, I live in a suburb but not a typical one so it'll be a pain finding good assets

However the area near the station is flat and it shouldn't be too hard to find good assets

Here's a guide on how to start your own terrain map from real world data http://www.skylinesplanningguide.com/2015/03/CitiesSkylinesGuideToImportingHeightMapsWithTerrainParty.html Just perform the Terrain party steps in Skydark. It's a very similar, more up-to-date alternative

I like the intro very much. Do you think you can tighten it up a bit, and that will benefit you. I just recently started doing shorter intros myself and it’s definitely made a difference.

I think all the areas you’re not talking you could just reclaim that time.

Biffa also drooped some great advice the other day, spend less time telling and more time showing. I’m going to work on that myself. So part of your intros could be inserted as your working in those areas. Basically I think he was say to get right to the content.

It's a phenomenon across most rust-belt cities as they were affected by loss of industrial jobs due to the decline in the steel industry. The Hill district was also directly affected by Urban Renewal of the 1960s, which saw over 400 businesses/8000 residents displaced rapidly and carelessly by eminent domain for the 579 Crosstown Blvd expansion and the construction of the Civic Center arena. Decades later, the Hill District is in a state of decay and urban blight, as many residents abandoned the neighborhood due to the economic troubles it saw as direct effect of Urban Renewal
