Hi all, my name is Hannah! I work on the consulting side of planning on the east coast. I recently graduated with a BS in Urban Planning/Design. My day to day consists of mainly GIS work, but I’m hoping to get more into the design aspect of planning.

Hi everyone! Been here a while but don't think I've introduced myself in this thread yet. I'm Phi, undergrad student studying urban science and planning! I've recently worked on a project trying to expose hostile eviction practices, but my main interests are in mobility/accessibility and climate resiliency, especially as related to moving development away from being car-focused. Excited to be here, and would love to chat with you all!

Hello all! I've also been here a while but haven't introduced myself in this thread yet. I'm Malin, and I'm a planner/engineer student from Sweden. Studying MScEng in Civil Engineering & Urban Development. I finished my BS in Urban and Traffic Planning earlier this year and are now doing my MS in Sustainable Urban Planning and Design.
Had a hard time choosing between urban planning and transport planning for my master so I'm also taking some extra courses in GIS and transportation.

Hello There, I am Tuck aka Charlie and I am studying Urban Planning as an undergraduate in Bristol, UK. Currently I'm focussing on Healthy sustainable communities, After I graduate I am hoping to specialise in Urban Design and/or Transportation ideally doing a masters degree in one of those areas. I hope I can offer a different view point for the community in discussions and that I can also get info/feedback from other planners.

G'day, I am a Masters of Urban Management and Planning (major in geography and urban design) - Sydney, Australia - and I will be going to the Netherlands (RUAS) for a 6 month exchange though next year - I will most likely be specialising in micro-mobility (adaptive design and infrastructure for bike for eg.) and equitable planning consultation and education of and for existing legislation - I endeavour to work in the private, public, corporate, government state/federal, and international sectors to feel out the perspectives benefits and faults of each and aim to improve the cohesion and communication of ideas between them.

Howdy, I'm a Planner in the Urban Design & Historic Preservation Dept for a Metro Planning Agency in Georgia (US State). I have a design background with a degree from SCAD, so I do visualization and 3D work for neighborhood plans and ordinance visuals in addition to day-to-day architectural review and permitting. I also do work with historic resource surveys when it comes time to update them. Very interested in learning from others about areas I'm less involved in like transportation. 😃

Hi everyone! I’m working on my Master of Public Administration degree focusing on Urban & Regional Policy & Planning at University of North Carolina Wilmington. I have a MA in History and MS is Curriculum & Instruction. I am excited to wade into the world of placemaking and building better communities. I’m starting a land use planning and GIS internship next month. I love watching CPP vids. Cities, maps, and jazzy music are my happy place.

I’ve been around this server for a while now, but I would like to introduce myself for those who don’t know me yet. I won’t say my real name, but you can call me by my aliases DAYDREAM or Goon. I am a first year undergraduate student who is majoring in economics and minoring in urban studies at the University of South Florida (USF) in Tampa. I’m interested in all things related to geography and city planning and I would also like to get my real estate license by this summer. After college and grad school, I hope to get a job in real estate development, land use planning, and/or urban design. If anyone here needs help or has any question related to planning, I can try to answer those questions to the best of my abilities.

Howdy fellow planners! I’m new to the server but have been watching CPP since the Bluffside series. You can call me Drewbly or Drew, I’m not picky lol. I’m currently an Associate Planner (also a Planner I) in Kansas (a US state). I’m one of the rare ones who never took a planning class throughout my undergrad or graduate career - just two Geography degrees. While I was writing my masters thesis on European Emission Policy, I got super interested in land policy and infrastructure so naturally I decided to go down the city planning route! My major areas of expertise are GIS and policy/code analysis. My main interests as of now are infrastructure and housing. I’ve loved working for the city I live in to help create new and interesting areas. I’m a big fan of various video games (of course CS is near the top) and I also love watching sports. I have two computer monitors and one is usually CS and the other is a game. I look forward to geeking out on planning and other such stuff with you all! 😄

Hi everyone! My name is Jon. Been in the Discord for a little while, but wanted some advice. I'm from Cincinnati, OH and have a Bachelors in Information Technology from the University of Cincinnati. I chose that degree after failing to get into the Architecture program for my freshman year. Fell in love with planning during my undergrad but saw it too expensive to switch having completed 3 years of my IT degree already. So now I'm married with a kid, 6 years removed from school, knowing I'll need to go back at some point if I want to get into planning. However, I'm unsure of what to do in the meantime between now and when I'll be able to afford to go back to school in a few years. Any advice is appreciated!

Hello! I am a senior planner (Planner III) practicing at a mid-size municipality in eastern Canada. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in planning, and then founded a company making YouTube videos about planning engagement until I switched my career into public sector 4 years ago. I've worked in both rural and urban municipalities and my focus has been policy planning - writing plans for the entire municipality - which involves all aspects of planning such as housing, sustainability, heritage, transit, social equity and economic development. I've led a few dozens of discretionary planning approvals and by-law amendments as well. I also have a bit of background in South Korean planning so I try to apply that in Canada where I can, such as their public housing and higher-order transit policies. Happy to answer any planning questions and get to know other passionate community members!

Hello everyone. I realised I never made a post here. I'm Dylan, I work as a trainee urban planner here in Australia. I am fortunate enough to have a trainee position alongside my university studies.

I work in the private sector and mainly work on housing, but also do a lot of outsourced work for council and complying developments.

My career has been destined to be ever since I played SimCity with my grandmother in the early 2000s. I hope to graduate in the next two years, and move to either a higher position in my current workplace, or move to working towards my 'end goal' - transportation planning.

Greetings! My name is John and I work as a transportation planner in New York City in the public sector. Specifically, I work on the staff of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) which is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for New York City, Long Island, and the Lower Hudson Valley. My main foci are mobility, performance management, and ped-bike among others, and tangentially on the funding aspect. I've been at NYMTC for 7 years and in my current position for a bit over 3 years.

I got my bachelor's from Cornell University and my master's from The Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers. I'm a long-time member of the American Planning Association and have been part of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) for six years.

If anyone has questions about transportation planning, the AICP exam, planning history, or New York City, don't be afraid to ask.

Hello! I'm about to go to Northeastern University for Urban Planning and Development (Urban Planning and Policy) specializing in Urban Design and Physical Planning. I've recently found Cities Skylines through City Planner Plays' YouTube and through some other channels, and I absolutely love his applications of Urban Planing and Physical Planning in the process of creating his videos. I am excited to talk with you all and brush up on some of your reading recommendations and such to prepare to (hopefully) enter the industry in a few years.

Best regards!

Hi! My name's Mike and I just graduated from Miami University with a Bachelor's in Urban and Regional Planning (with a co-major in Sustainability). As much as it's awkward to admit in more professional circles, I got into the field in large part because of games like SimCity and Cities: Skylines, and developed a love for (especially) transportation planning through that and over my years at school. Never realized that there would be communities for planners like this online around C:S, hoping I can pop back in here from time to time once I actually get a job!

Hi! My name is Joseph and I am a second year student at Florida State University majoring in Political Science and minoring in Urban and Regional Planning. I've been watching CPP for quite some time, as I really enjoy listening to a real city planner talk about what they do. I just started my first class for my minor and as funny as it sounds, I've actually been able to use some of the things I learned in CPP's videos in class. I'm hoping to go to law school after graduation but I might pursue a masters in Urban Planning!

Hello! My name is Darby and I am a second year master's of planning student at FSU in Tallahassee, FL. I recently found CPP through recommendation from a friend, but we also recently discussed CPP and the merits of sims like City Skylines in my Planning Theory class. My specialization is in environmental planning and I currently work for a regional planning council. I mostly do GIS work for them, but I have been more involved on some adaptation projects regarding shoreline restoration. I am not sure where I necessarily want to end up in the field, but I do know that I am a nerd for GIS.

Hello! I’m a first year MURP (Masters in Urban and Regional Planning) student at Ball State University. Did my undergrad in Political Science at Arizona State University and worked as a community and political organizer, issues of labor rights, housing, gentrification/displacement were at the forefront of my experiences talking to constituents. Motivated me to go into planning to help address these issues directly. Really want to hone in my focus on working with marginalized/indigenous communities

Hello fellow planners! I have been a practicing city planner for just over 5 years now. Though I don’t have a planning degree, I have a bachelors in environmental management and a masters in public administration. I’ve worked in two midsized (~20k pop.) cities in 2 regions of the US (Midwest and Northeast). I am looking to get AICP certification in 2024. I hope to learn more about urban design and transportation planning as I study for the exam. Also I’ve been watching CPP for about 3 years and just joined the discord today. Hoping that some of you may have some tips for studying for the AICP exam. Obviously I like gaming as well which is where CS comes into the equation. Looking forward to discussing everything city planning IRL and in-game!

I’ve been working in the field for over a year now through my co-operative studies, now having experience at two private consulting firms. Looking forward to getting my CIP, RPP, and hopefully CNU-A designations after graduating (new urbanism, hot topic I know). If you have any questions about Canadian, specifically Ontarian planning policy and procedures, I’m your guy!

Hey everyone! I'm an urban and regional planner from The Netherlands.I got my bachelor and master's degree of Planning at the University of Utrecht, with a minor in mediation. I work for a consultancy firm and typically get seconded at a municipality. Recently I became one of the team managers for the backoffice spatial planning we're building up. In short: I still get to do all sorts of planning projects for a couple of municipalities at the same time, while also mentoring the next generation of planners.

Howdy! I've been a transit planner for about ten years. Currently working at a top-15 transit agency in the US. I manage planning of bus service, bus stops, and bus operations. Previously worked at two different larger California transit agencies. I have a Master of Urban Planning and my thesis was a GIS analysis identifying transit deserts in a 5 city study area within the service area of one transit agency and making recommendations for service improvements to address those transit deserts.

Hi!
I’m a spatial/urban planner from Latvia and I’m looking for some advice on AutoCAD. I haven’t really used it before, but I’d like to learn. I received my Bachelors in City and Regional Planning with a Minor in Sustainable Environments, and my Masters in Urban Planning and Public Policy with a focus on Spatial Planning and Urban Design. I also have a degree in fire technology that focused on hazard response and planning. I currently work for a County government in long range planning, but have previously worked for multiple cities in development/current planning, as well as a regional government in the great lakes/upper midwest area. I am passionate about all things planning but am most passionate about spatial/land use planning, urban design, and cultural landscapes.

I currently do environmental/land planning, permitting, and construction review/advisement for the utility, dealing with both electric and gas infrastructure. My interests are in climate resiliency and green/renewable design/infrastructure.

I'm Ricardo, I'm currently studying public administration, and spatial development, where I do the climate study path and the urban planning study path. Both are focused on new developments and subjects where most "urban studies" students lack knowledge (for example: we also have classes on technology, and some basic math and physics).

I'm also a member of a not-to-be-named political party (and it's youth organization) where I do some volunteer work for the North-America team and climate, mobility, infrastructure and housing workgroups. With a bit of luck I'll also be doing something in their house of representatives-team in a few weeks for a project. I also assisted a party in the municipal council with evaluating local housing projects a while back.

I've also done a few projects already (mostly at uni). I've mostly looked at livability, safety and city marketing, but also things like social safety for minorities in emergency services
