#Any suggestions on how to retrofit a train in my city?

The red line top to bottom was there by default, the connection to the right was made by me to connect a train station to the network (for people).
The black line is an elevated train track I retrofitted in there because I wanted to have a freight train station at "2." next to the big farming industry. On the way would be enough space for another train station for people ("1.").
The blue waves mark the area that I planned on being the downtown later so I wouldn't want to put a giant train intersection there.

Is it realistic to only connect the route into one direction (dashed black line)?

Would it be realistic to construct a 2nd train bridge over the river to merge behind the river?

Any additional additions would be appreciated, I'd like to keep it realistic and would love to retrofit it instead of just going around the city. thank youu. ^-^

If you're going for a style of a more wealthy country, I'd consider both realistic and if you want some real life examples here are two

I don't know if there really is enough development for rail yet in the area. Other forms of transport, like a tram (purple) will be enough for now. You might want to lay down some line in the north for in the future (green). Also I think with the orange bus line you cane make a good linkage between all modes of transport, serving the city properly. Some hubs in the city allow for passenger to change directions, but service is still local. Let me know if you have any questions about my advice :)

(Oh and it's hardly possible to implement trains later on. In reality this is almost never done as an afterthought).

I'll defo copy the bus route. I am horrible at making effective bus routes. The purple line is my tram network. It's not all used but I tried to remember to include tram roads for future needs.
At the top of my city exactly where you put the green line is a national park. Yes theres space but I'd have to think about putting that there effectively cutting a little off the part. Would you abandon the black train route completely? It's just that I have space there next to the road so apart from connecting it the black line would fit fine.

Cool! I think a freight line is good for the city to have, so I personally would keep it (also keeping in mind truck traffic otherwise).

I missed the part that 1 is already a train station for persons, but I think that's alright for intercity traffic. Your tram line in combination with the bus line will work properly I guess.

Maybe you can get some funding from the national government ;)

I am super late to respond Im sorry :( I wasn't at my pc for 2 weeks.
I'm considering the green line because it just looks really nice. my only concern is that it would suck having a train track right at the border of the national park that starts with the road there.
Also wouldn't the one station at the end of the red route be kind of pointless then as its a one way that wouldn't connect to the other ones?

Yes implemeting a new train line in an existing is not a daily practice. Ideally you leave room for future development (like a railway) in further expansions.

What end do you think is pointless?
