#SOLVED CS crashing every time I try to load/make a save

I'm still with Chi on this.

#

I think the other two TMPE mods might be the issue?

visual hawk
#

Ya I was gonna suggest you try uninstalling the crosswalks one anyways

#

if nothing changes you can add it back and we'll dive deeper, but you don't really need it anyways.

wraith prawn
#

Indeed.

visual hawk
#

Woot problem solving. Lets goooo!

#

A city is in dire need of leadership!

wraith prawn
#

We have the tools, the power, the skill, the talent, the experience! We'll build it bigger, stronger, faster, harder!

visual hawk
#

And failing that, we hope to get you building at all!

#

TEAM SKYLINES!

wraith prawn
#

Hoorah!

visual hawk
#

IDK what kinda hardware you're dealing with my friend or how long these steps will take. Where ya' at in regards to unsubbing that mod & trying to load again?

wraith prawn
#

Verify file integrity in Steam,

#

This isn't about mods anymore.

visual hawk
#

Hate to say we might be looking at a reinstall soon but it may be that way

wraith prawn
#

It's about the game itself.

visual hawk
#

I wonder if the log is in plain english too

#

I wouldn't hate seeing it

#

honestly i don't know enough about hardware to know what that means but it seems like not a potato

#

so thats good

wraith prawn
#

No, Filip has a good setup.

#

Can handle most of what he's doing.

#

The RAM needs to be upgraded, tbf, but only by another 16GB so he doesn't run into longevity issues.

#

Ok, so let's do this...

#

Turn off all mods, open the game, click Play, and then try to load a brand new game.

#

No, leave CR.\

#

CR doesn't cause any scripting or callstack issues.

visual hawk
#

Are you trying this whole time to load a save?

#

So this step is essentially complete? Hm :/

#

Can you access that log? Idk if it will help but it's info we haven't seen yet

#

Loading Screen Mod might help us pinpoint too? but thinking reinstall is coming soon

#

@wraith prawn if you would prefer I step back since you're a dev by all means I can do that

#

The one it asks you to send the devs

#

Can you SS the contents of that folder?

#

You have microsoft defender?

wraith prawn
#

No, its fine. I would agree with this step.

#

It's either we reinstall entirely... or you contact the game devs and submit a real support ticket.

#

This is highly unusual.

#

In fact, I'm fairly certain that something happened to your game install itself.

#

Not really sure what that is, but something did happen.

visual hawk
#

'Próbowano uzyskać dostęp do nieprawidłowego adresu.

#

What does this mean

wraith prawn
#

Hmm, could be a memory callstack error.

#

But it could also be an unknown object error in data retrieval.

visual hawk
#

I have no idea what that means 😄 but reinstall lol. If it means a system area as in the files were moved it can probably be fixed when the game installs in a correct location

hidden flame
#

I've heard that for some people CS crashes when saving because they have hdd

wraith prawn
#

Sometimes, if a save file seems too 'broken' by the engine, Unity itself will move the files somewhere else, just to prevent true corruption, and this causes issues.

wraith prawn
visual hawk
#

Ah yes memory callstack error hmm yes indubitably.

wraith prawn
#

lmao.

#

Callstack just means how Unity processes commands in the system.

#

Think of it literally like a stack of pallets.

visual hawk
#

Honestly I do run into similar issues when fumbling my way around APIS and trying to run databases on my localhost etc

wraith prawn
#

Each pallet represents a set of data that needs to be processed.

visual hawk
#

And a bunch was moved because it will crash things worse. Infected material etc

wraith prawn
#

Callstacking means Unity makes a request for data changes and processes the data so it goes to the right area.

visual hawk
#

Like if you get a bad pallet of material in a food factory it needs to be isolated

#

Something like that?

#

restart and run microsoft defender bro

wraith prawn
#

Holy shite. Ok, yeah that's not good.

#

I would say, run MSDef if you have it and run it with admin access and on full drive read.

#

Otherwise, if you use a third-party AM tool, then make sure you do a full drive scan.

#

Yep.

visual hawk
#

Sorry had to take a call just got a new job

wraith prawn
#

Yeah, I gotta get a new job.

#

Microsoft decided to completely shut down their entire Support Program.

#

Business and Enterprise level Support.

#

Haven't announced it publicly yet... probably won't until months after we're done.

visual hawk
wraith prawn
#

MSDef is just as good as the third-party stuff... no matter what people say.

#

It's just not 'pretty' or 'fancy'.

visual hawk
#

I am absolutely not crapping on MS defender

#

I just like MWB too, and use both. Rarely does MWB catch something that microsoft doesn't, but it happens

visual hawk
wraith prawn
#

Yes, I work for Microsoft as part of their Business level Concierge Support program.

#

I provide Tier 3 and Tier 4 direct-user support.

visual hawk
#

oh thats literally your whole job

#

oh wow

wraith prawn
#

Yep.

#

Over 8,000 people are losing their jobs.

visual hawk
#

I'm very sorry to hear that for you. Luckily in the few minutes I've known you I can see you're smart and a nice person who's willing to help. I think you will be successful!

wraith prawn
#

Haha thank you darling. I'll be fine. Just sucks.

visual hawk
#

I have accepted 10 jobs in 14 months 🙂 Long story not for here. This one is the one I want though.

wraith prawn
#

OH wow, I thought my employment issues were bad! Glad you found something!

visual hawk
#

Just wait until I do taxes..

wraith prawn
#

I've been working in customer service since 2002, but I've been working in IT since.... 1995?

visual hawk
#

Stereotypically speaking there is little crossover between IT and customer service. The trope is that IT folks are not great with customers. Having those assets together should help!

Long time to go to make a change, and, with that many people involved in this program I'm sure you'll miss quite a few colleagues. That's always tough...

#

Your internet friends will do OT. C:S2 multiplayer wen?

wraith prawn
#

LOL

#

Anyways, let's move this somewhere else since this is about his issue 😛

visual hawk
#

Back on track: We are at this step

wraith prawn
#

Ok, then I suggest submitting a support ticket with CO.

#

Oh yeah, give me a moment.

visual hawk
#

Have you reinstalled?

#

Are you still having any issues with any other software?

#

I only have 16GB ram and I load up smooth with like 100 mods and 4k assets

#

You have assets installed? assuming no

wraith prawn
#

Yeah, like I said, this is not a mod thing.

#

This is definitely to do with something else.

#

I'm trying to get the support for you.

#

Where are you installing your game and where are your save files located?

#

I mean, what's your SSD connected as? C:/, D:/?

#

Is it being installed in the same place as SteamLibrary or elsewhere?

#

Ok.

#

Ok, sorry, not a lot of info for this.

#

It's really rare that players need this kind of assistance.

#

Also, make sure you put together all your screenshots.

#

Damnit.

#

Ok, so apparently CO does not have an official support channel except through the PDI forums.

#

You'll have to use your Paradox account, signin to the forums, and post a thread ><

#

Jaysus, that's annoying, but I also get why.

#

As I said, this is pretty rare.

visual hawk
#

I feel like this might be a hardware thing tbh

#

I just don't know how to check into that right now

#

@remote tartan when u restarted your pc did you do a full power down or just click restart?

#

Do you ever play other games? No issues with anything else?

#

Anything graphics intensive at all?

wraith prawn
#

Always hit Restart first, not shut down.

visual hawk
#

or you mean no issues

wraith prawn
#

I don't know why no one understands that function lol. Like literally no one. I even have advanced engineers at some of my customers' businesses who don't even know this and they have been in the industry for decades.

visual hawk
#

I don't know that one. I prefer shut down over restart. I thought I had it right lmao

wraith prawn
#

Yes, not surprising, most people just don't know.

#

Shut down in modern PCs does not work.

#

You need to Restart.

#

Shut down should be used AFTER a Restart when you intend to stop using your PC for an extended period of time.

visual hawk
#

When I run into real trouble I turn off the PSU. But I think we're beyond it?

#

Like filip did a whole reinstall

wraith prawn
#

Windows and MacOS now use a QuickStart function.

#

So when you shut down, you're not actually turning off the original currently operating session.

#

So the session doesn't actually dump everything when you shut down.

#

It just reboots the last session, but no elements of it.

visual hawk
#

Oh so filip should DEFINITELY restart

#

?

wraith prawn
#

To truly reset the session, you have to restart lol.

visual hawk
#

Go on mate

wraith prawn
#

Right, the invalid address issue should have been identified and fixed with the reinstall.

#

That's what concerns me and why I am suggesting even looking at getting a support ticket filed.

visual hawk
#

But if it was an internal access issue and the installer couldn't reach that area of the SSD because of some other hardware related issue..... ?

#

maybe?

#

In ignorant terms of course but hopefully you see what I mean?

wraith prawn
#

I mean, he could run an SSD check on it.

#

See if there are any errors with the SSD.

visual hawk
#

No just @ us when you wanna try again, or at least me

wraith prawn
#

Not for now darling. Go do what you need to do.

#

I can leave you instructions here and you can get back to it later.

visual hawk
#

thats so sad I'm 3 beers invested into this so far

wraith prawn
#

I think unless his SSD install came with specific software from the hardware manufacturer, his best bet is to do a straight disc check from Windows, which will force a restart of his system, reboot, and start running a disc check before kernel startup.

#

This will allow the system to verify if there are any major sector errors, but I doubt it.

#

Most SSDs have a very low failure rate compared to HDDs.

visual hawk
#

maybe a registry issue, any tool you know for that?

wraith prawn
#

My only other thought is if it isn't a drive issue, it could be RAM allocation.

visual hawk
#

something is super fishy imo

wraith prawn
#

Oh no. There are some out there, but registry editing is VERY manual and VERY dangerous unless you know what you're doing.

visual hawk
#

Yes. But it could have already occured due to following some tut online without knowing. I am wondering if theres a way to validate it only

wraith prawn
#

I mean... Windows doesn't really provide regedit validation due to the complexity of registries.

#

We could TRY using CCleaner for its registry function...

#

But its not complete and doesn't always remove bad refs.

#

I agree that something is super fishy about this because this just doesn't happen.

#

Like... CS1 is extremely stable.

#

For Unity, it's impressively stable.

#

So... if he's running a fresh install and totally vanilla... then it either is Steam, the Windows OS, or the hardware or a combination of them all.

#

SteamLoader can sometimes break when running a game, but I doubt it.

#

Again, extremely stable.

I have two questions:

  1. Are you subscribed to the loading screen mod?
  2. Are you subscribed to the loading screen mod?

If the answer to both is no, then:
Subscribe to the loading screen mod!

wraith prawn
#

Well, that's true.

#

I always have CR and LS loaded, even if I'm otherwise vanilla.

#

They are just essential mod tools.

left trail
#

A disk check or whatever isn’t necessary. This is an out of memory issue

wraith prawn
#

That's what my gut was telling me, which is why my other suggestions were really meh from me.

#

But 16GB on a vanilla run with only half the DLC and no Radios?

#

Feels a bit strange to me?

#

Anyways, I gotta go with my wife to do some errands.

#

I'll have my phone on me.

visual hawk
#

Search for "Windows Memory Diagnostic" in your start menu, and run the application.

#

We will try to verify the integrity of your ram

left trail
#

Get the loading screen mod, if the issues persist post your output log again.

left trail
visual hawk
left trail
#

If that was the case they’d get a boot error.
The game is trying to allocate more memory than there is available

visual hawk
#

They have blue screened from this

left trail
#

16GB + Windows + whatever is running in the background just isn’t enough

visual hawk
#

I'm just confused by that because I only have 16GB

Your system and what you are doing ≠ their system and what they are doing

Glad to hear it darling. ^^ Filip, you'll need to actually make the check for SOLVED to get the ticket solved.
