#Question about problem with Oil Industry

Hi folks, hopefully this is the correct place to ask this. I'm a beginner and working on incorporating the industries DLC into my builds. I'm trying out oil on my current map, and it's just not functioning like it seems it should. I've got petroleum and plastics producing buildings that keep telling me they're out of raw materials. They're nearby and readily accessible from my oil storage buildings, which are all full, despite my having set them to balanced. There's very very little traffic here. Doesn't seem to be an issue of trucks not able to reach where they should. Thanks for any thoughts you can share!

If all your storage is full (set to Balanced) then you're most likely over-producing oil - it's a safe bet that all the storage trucks are away exporting oil.

Me, personally, I like to use one-way roads to shunt the logistics pipeline where it's needed. Here's the farm version:

Ahhhh so I'm overproducing, so my storage is overfull, and the trucks are constantly trying to empty my storage to reach balanced, instead of resupplying the production facilities... Thank you!!!

I do think the game should give a 'not enough trucks' warning in this case, as it can be confusing to see 'not enough raw materials' yet the solution is to produce fewer raw materials

#

(other solutions are to add more storage, or set one storage to 'fill' to stop it exporting and dedicate it to local deliveries)

So is it better to have a slight underproduction of raw goods and import them if needed?

thx for the clarification

btw if you are on PC/use mods, Transfer Manager CE can help with this specific issue by reserving a % of your facilities' trucks for local/warehouse use. This way even if you're overproducing a lot and exporting, you'll still always have trucks to do local deliveries. This mod has many other amazing uses too!

Furthermore, Rebalanced Industries Revisited can also help by adjusting the load capability of vehicles which helps to slightly reduce the truck traffic, and also makes processing buildings strongly prefer getting materials from the nearest storage facility

It's an option within Transfer Manager, but Rebalanced Industries does adjust that on the backend as well. They work well together overall imho

hmm that’s an interesting to know. I once used Rebalanced Industries Revisitied in one of my saves an likes the reduced traffic but i keep getting the issue that my Industrial Areas didn’t find people which where willing to work their even though i had a great industrial need in my city. I deactivated Rebalanced Industies and then my Industrial Areas filled with workers. Is this an known issue or did i mess something up?

mmmm idk but i've been using both those mods since my first industrial dlc zone and have never had that problem with workers. Do you use the Ind 4.0 policy in your dlc districts? That allows highly educated workers to find jobs in your industries, so that might also help depending on your situation

#

not sure exactly how Rebal Industries mod changes workers though because the page just says "Rebalance the distribution of workers"... whatever that means

#

maybe you have a lot of offices nearby? or vanilla zoned industry? 🤷‍♂️

I will check that the next time i load into the game .. i think i had industry 4.0 enabled but i am not sure. Thanks for the hints 🙂

instead of "cheatin" by forcing delivery trucks to despawn after they have done their deliveries by only providing one way roads i would suggest having the closest storage being set to empty also make this as big as you can for it needs the trucks. and having more storage like behind set to balanced. As storages always accept deliveries. let the first one being closest to the extractionarea be your dropoff from there and then it distributes the oil just to the other ones and let those take care of meeting demand and exporting.

I think you may have misread the discussion - for my part, at least, there were no such exploits involved; simply tame the traffic by giving them only one possible route to their destination and one possible route back to their point of origin.
