#As a city planner, what are your thoughts on Saudi Arabia's new NEOM project?

Just wondering, as a city planner, is NEOM's design good at all? Especially curious about "The Line" city thing. Does it really have some smart designs, or is it just a spectacle? To me it just seems kind of counter-intuitive, like, wouldn't it just make everything take longer and be more expensive? What's your thoughts?

I just saw the map and it's going to be such a pain to create new connections in the future

Imagine having to go over or under a building everytime you want to create a new north-south connection

The Line is bad for multiple reasons. Not only will it prevent easy connections in the future that Ricardo pointed out, but it will also block the movement of animals and water. Plus, you won't be able to create a true sense of place or community because the design appears to limit any interaction you may have with others. I have also not seen how they are going to prevent the mirror surface from creating a death ray effect when the sun hits it.

This is just a vanity project and the money would have been better spent creating a traditionally designed city on the coast, but prohibiting cars and making everyone take transit or bike or walk.

They called it Neom and didn't put a single race track in it

I am not a city planner, but I can say that it's very inefficient use of land and also more expensive then it needs to be

It looks nice and all but in my opinion cities should be more horizontal not vertical if u know what i mean

I've worked as a consultant for some NEOM projects. And I think the region of NEOM will become a giant complex of tourist attractions showing of different concepts of urban design. I doubt people will be willing to live in that places without incentives.
