I’m an aspiring urban planner near Atlanta, Georgia and I am going to college in a few months. Already thinking about majoring in either public policy study or urban studies. What else could y’all recommend for me to get me on the right track for a successful urban planning career?

School is Andrew Young School for Policy Study at GSU btw

Both options are good as a start to urban planning, I’m currently minoring in urban studies

I would also include geography or environmental science on there depending on what you’re doing

Or maybe civil engineering

Definitely civil engineering if you want to do larger transportation planning.
But for your undergraduate? Do something very general, like geography so you have an understanding of everything. If you are 110% certain what you want, focus on that, e.g. quantitative methods -> statistics classes; urban analytics -> data science classes and so on
