#ParkingAI issues, or user error??? (unsolved)

I'm stuck again, and can't figure out this very particular parking issue I'm having...

This bridge comes off the mainland (basically straight off the highway) and onto a small island where my one and only amusement park is located. Lots of visitors, so lots of parking would be needed!

Seemingly, no matter what I do, MOST of the cars that come in to park just drive through the parking lot back out to where they came from JUST SO THEY CAN LOOP BACK AROUND AND TRY TO PARK AGAIN!!! As you can imagine, this just creates an ever-increasingly long queue of cars trying to park, even though the massive parking lot isn't even 25% full!!!

I've tried these things:

-They do it with both parking lot roads and BIG parking lots, though I haven't tried both at the same time
-entry and exit all at the same end
-entry on the far end, exit nearest the bridge
-split the big parking lot into two separate smaller ones
-placed park main gate on a side road coming off the parking lot instead of directly on it
-added parking garages to the side to increase availability

for the record, I have a dedicated bus route (amusement park and is it's only stop besides one on the other side of the bridge) and have also provided metro service at the location of the bus stop across the bridge

From what I can tell, what it seems like they're doing is driving to a very specific spot, which is probably taken by the time they get there, and then instead of i dunno - just finding another spot, they drive out to loop around back by the highway and come back in for another go (almost all of them leaving the parking lot aren't going to another location)

I just want them to PARK already!!!!!!! I'm ripping my hair out, this drove my traffic from 83% to 51% in minutes 🤬

Ummmm...another thing they do is that right after getting off the highway and turning right to come to the amusement park, 95% of them PAUSE at the node right before the bus stop/metro station before continuing on. So even if the road ahead is clear, traffic still backs up onto the highway

When I look at individual vehicles, before getting to that spot they will say that they're "going to [something at the amusement park]". They then get to the node, pause to look for a parking spot, then continue on "driving to a parking spot, going to [something at the amusement park]"

I don't notice this pause and wait to route to a parking spot anywhere else in my city though. It seems odd

Latest iteration is that the one-way road itself now goes all the way around with the large parking lot road down the middle. Entrances on both sides (before the park entrance and nearer the exit to the bridge). The park entrance is now on the road instead of off the side of the parking lot. This version does get the best utilization of the parking lot of all the things I've tried (<50% instead of <25%), but there are still way too many vehicles entering the parking lot and then leaving without parking only to loop back around to have another go - so my traffic is still backing up an unnatural amount in the area

Still much confuse...

Hey hon, maybe this is related to Phil's experience on NB? WHere the tourists keep doing a loop in a specific location? I believe he said there was a mod for that?

thx Eirfinna, I'll go back and rewatch to see if I can find that. Any idea approx what episode that was in or the main theme of the episode?

He said there's a mod called something lik Crazy tourist remover maybe

It was rather recent.

#

Hopefully, it has the right time marking for you LCF>

#

It was a rather simple fix.

#

Let us know if it worked for you please.

thank you both! I do remember those episodes and that looping problem he was having. It would never had occurred to me since his problem seemed to only be related to the "outside connection" bug where tourists come into your city just to turn around, whereas my particular tourists do actually have a real destination (they just can't always seem to actually see the damn parking spaces lol)

I haven't tried the mod yet, but after my last re-work of the road and parking, the sheer number of people trying to park there seems to have died down. I did max the admission price, turn off night tours, and make the amusement park not my "main park" though. A few still circle around because they can't find parking - despite driving past literal dozens of open spots ( I just watched one tourist circle SIX times until they found a parking spot!!!)

But alas, as long as it's not happening so frequently as to clog up the roads, it shouldn't remain a problem 🤞

Ok well I added the crazy tourists mod and literally nothing changed

I think I'll try building one of those custom parking garages to see if that works any better 🤷🏻‍♂️

Hey leftcoastfunk, did you check the interface of the cars to see where they are headed?

#

It might help pin down the issue you are having

they're all headed to the place they are circling - the parking lot for the amusement park. They all have a final destination within the park. They just can't seem to actually find the parking space once they get there. They will literally drive past 50 open parking spaces after their one failed attempt - circle around and drive past the same 50 spaces again after their second failed attempt, and so on...

I feel like the parking AI is forcing them to travel a certain distance or look for a parking space a certain distance away after a failed attempt. Otherwise I can't see why they're just driving past all the empty places

#

thx for the suggestions all

#

i'll build a new lot in the next day or two and see if I can't fix this...
