#Game crashes when loading a savegame.

Whenever I try loading or creating a new city, map editor or anything, the progress bar loads approximately to 2/3 when it crashes. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

__Errors... errors everywhere__

Step 1: Subscribe to the Compatibility Report mod and look at the report it generates when launching the game, found at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities_Data by default.
Step 2: Unsubscribe from anything with "major issues" and check for up-to-date replacements of "mods you should or could unsubscribe."

Step 3: If you don't have Loading Screen Mod, close the game and sub to it.
Step 4: Enable "save reports in this directory" and "check assets for error" in the Loading Screen Mod settings under "reporting".
Step 5: Copy the path to the directory being displayed in the previous step and open it in file explorer.
Step 6: Launch the save that you have been having issues with.

This may fix your issues, but if not...
Step 7: Refresh the reports directory and open the newest asset report file.
Step 8: Open the links to the steam page of any failed assets.
Step 9: Subscribe to any dependencies of the assets (on the right sidebar) that you aren't subscribed to and haven't previously unsubscribed from in Step 2. If there are any dependencies you have previously unsubbed from, unsub from the asset.

Step 10: If you are still having issues, create a thread in #968273009339170836 and post your log files (see the !logs command) and someone will try to help you!

Help! I'm getting simulation errors.
Go back through Steps 1 and 2 and close the game.

If the errors persist, try the "recover from simulation errors" option in the Loading Screen Mod settings (Step 3 above). Otherwise, try Step 10.

Also, how much RAM do you have?

supple gate
supple gate
#

7.75GB is "usable" or "available" (not sure what is more acurate translation)

hushed laurel
#

Do you have any workshop assets?

supple gate
#

Probably some

#

Lemme check

#

Do turned-off ones count too?

#

(I mean in the content manager)

hushed laurel
#

It just affects the loading speed

#

If you have too many of them

supple gate
#

Okey, honestly I can't check now, but I will do It ASAP, thanks very much

The following files are necessary to identify the cause of your issue(s):

Output / Player log
Windows (output_log.txt):
[steam folder]\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities_Data\
macOS (Player.log):
~/Library/Logs/Unity/
Linux (Player.log):
~/.config/unity3d/Colossal Order/Cities: Skylines/

TM:PE logs
(TMPE.log)
Windows:
[steam folder]\steamapps\common\Cities_Skylines\Cities_Data\
macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Cities_Skylines > right-click and select "Show Package Options" (Yosemite users: "Open in new tab"). The log can then be found in the new tab: Contents/TMPE.log
Linux:
~/.config/unity3d/Colossal Order/Cities: Skylines/

Loading Screen Mod (LSM)
Windows:
%localappdata%\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Report\LoadingScreenMod
macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/
Linux:
~/.local/share/Colossal Order/Cities_Skylines/Report/LoadingScreenMod/

# tender cape

@hushed laurel I feel very stupid, but how do I access the "steam folder" on windows? Is that part of the %appdata% folder?

hushed laurel
#

Yes, appdata/local/collosal order/cities skylines

supple gate
#

Thanks

hushed laurel
#

No need to feel stupid there 🙂

supple gate
#

this one, right?

hushed laurel
#

Yeah

supple gate
#

Thx

hushed laurel
#

I don't know much about what is in logs though

supple gate
#

Is this the right folder?

quasi rover
#

You shouldn't need to but let's say it went weird

supple gate
#

uh....no I guess?

#

Oh no, they are turned on

quasi rover
supple gate
quasi rover
#

Oh that's not where it is

quasi rover
supple gate
#

Thaaaanks, that's the problem

quasi rover
#

You should then see cities data and folder(s) with dates as names

supple gate
quasi rover
#

For some reason steam installs in 32 or 64 bit without asking you which you would like

supple gate
quasi rover
#

So, did you reach the folder ?

supple gate
quasi rover
supple gate

Ouput log and TMPE log are below that stuff. It's scroll down time !

#

Also, were there files with names only being number when you were inside Cities:Skylines folder ?

One thing at a time.

Sweet! Now, hopefully, some of all these lovely nerds (which I wish I was too) can decipher those and help you out! 😊

supple gate
#

At least I hope those are the deepest

#

Probably not

#

Anyway

timid kindle
#

Haha, no worries! it looked to me like you were getting a bit overwhelmed. ^^

supple gate
timid kindle
#

You know what, find the folder on top with the date that's the latest and paste the output log file from there too.

timid kindle
#

They're in YYYY-MM-DD, so don't go american DD-MM

sharp edge
#

I always thought that american would write the date MM-DD?

#

But yes, the compatibility report is the most useful, at least in my eyes

timid kindle
#

Yeah, true, they'd probably go MM-DD-YY though, while most of the world goes YY-MM-DD or DD-MM-YY, so americans place days next to years which is a bit odd imo. 😄

timid kindle
supple gate
supple gate
#

Yes, we literally use a comma while everyone else uses a slash

timid kindle
#

Commas in dates? Interesting... Us Swedes do dashes, spaces or nothing at all (so 221113 for today) and it's a bit confusing because sometimes year is first, sometimes it's last.

#

Nah, no need if you follow the directions! Are you updating with the new versions of the mods?

#

You're out of RAM and pagefile so, as I suspected, you can probably be helped the same way I was the other day! 😄

supple gate
timid kindle
#

Oh, yeah, placing periods in there is super odd to me as well! And no am/pm stuff, 24h clock all the way. 🙂

timid kindle
#

Anyway, yes, pagefile. Do you know how to set that?

supple gate
timid kindle
#

It's a way for the computer to use your harddrive as a made-up RAM when it needs to, sort of. 😄

#

Right, so how much space do you have left on your hard drive?

timid kindle
#

Nope!

supple gate
#

Is SSD a hard-drive?

timid kindle
#

It just uses it temporary, as far as I have understood it, and it's supposed to do that so don't worry. We just need to increase how much of your harddrive space can be used for it as you're running out.

#

Yep!

#

It's set ridiculously low by default. I could increase mine with about 45'000

supple gate
#

Actually, would you mind if I would do that tommorow? I literally got a notification that I have my hard drive almost full a few mins ago so it will probably take some time and I am super tired...

#

And thank you for your time

timid kindle
#

Ahhh, yes, I understand. I'm afraid I'll recommend you to get another hard drive and, if you have the money, more RAM. Sorry. :/

#

Hey, no worries, have a good night's sleep!

supple gate
quasi rover
# supple gate Here

yep, you ran out of memory.
Although increasing pagfile size will help, i suggest you try to buy more RAM because 8 GB is real tight for the game

An SSD isn't necessarily external, though?

#

I have two internal SSD's.

An SSD is a non-mechanical HDD that is faster and more silent. Right?

quasi rover
#

If it's a desktop PC, then a SATA 2,5'' SSD 500 GB or 1 TB should do the trick

quasi rover
timid kindle
supple gate
#

I use a laptop and it seems like I only have SSD...sorry, I really don't understand this

timid kindle
#

Depening on if you have room in your laptop and dare open it or not, you could get an extra disc, a new disc or an external one.

quasi rover
# timid kindle Yes, it's not mechanical.

HDD is a spining pile of magnetic disks, on which a mecanical arm comes to read/write. SSD uses "cells" that capture electrons, using semi-conductors. They look like simple computer chips

timid kindle
supple gate
quasi rover

Windows says it because it's relic of days where it was only HDDs

supple gate

I am sorry if this was a waste of time

CPU is Intel CORE i3

timid kindle
# quasi rover SSD is not a hard drive

Okay, fine, storage disc. But it does the same job as a hard drive so there's no need to get overly technical when someone isn't so knowledgeable. 🙂

supple gate
#

and some Nvidia graphic card? Idk, there is an NVIDIA sticker 😁

#

okay so it's an ultrabook

#

damn you won't go far with that for the game

#

you can buy an external storage to put your photos and documents to free up^space from the drive, but that's all

#

has integrated graphics as GPU
