Waiting for the Nicolet Bay channel to drop 👀
Love Nicolet Bay so far
But please, Phil - use my Bay Bridge or Golden Gate instead of the million-span vanilla highway bridge!
I looked it up the centre span is just over a 1 km, the whole bridge is 8 km long irl. So half the map
NEW CITY LET'S HECKIN GO 😍😍
He said in the video he's only gonna use vanilla and assets created for Superior. I humbly suggest there are a number of stock-alike assets that would be useful, ie CIM rail train stains with more track options.
"I'm going to make this parallel to this hill here"
begins to make it perpendicular
Just started watching nicolet bay, im super excited for the rest of the series, but I do wonder if CPP has limited himself too much? Seems like a very small plot of land for a whole series
I don't think he plans on the series being super long
Anyone gonna tell Phil that there’s already a Nicolet Bay in Wisconsin? /j
Great start to the new series though, looking forward to more :)
I'm so excited for Nicolet Bay after watching the first one. It's so nice to have an amount of mods that most PC players can actually play with and not have a bunch of time spent on dealing with vanilla quirks, and it just proceeds at a nice pace without watching a bunch of individual buildings being plopped.
I also think it often looks way better this way? The respective building mixes kinda look like there was a massive corruption cleanout at the state planning authority in between the building of Van Buren and Nicolet Bay.
I'd just use the normal elevated bridge thing
Irl the bridge looks like that
That service point for pedestrian areas is really nice 😀
I really will have a hard time to wait for a bargain for this DLC
The main issue I have is that bridge length lol. That wouldn't be a bridge like that. It'd either be cable-stayed and/or have a causeway running up to it
Though interesting experiment with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhgCGaoKs7w ped areas. Was curious to see what'd happen, didn't quite expect it to be so exploit-y. Turns out humanity's problems would be solved by going car free.
But also explains why he decided to do a Mackinac Island build. Beyond service vehicles, makes that completely possible now
Ever since I got the Plazas and Promenades DLC for Cities Skylines, I've been wondering how the service points actually function. The implied functionality is that these buildings send vehicles out to collect garbage and drop off goods within a pedestrian district. But are they REALLY doing that? And could you use this building to cheese an e...
I'm a little confused by the beginning of the video, where the assumption seemed to be that the service building would spawn vehicles which would go to buildings in the pedestrian zone. It seemed pretty obvious to me based on the description that the building was the way that the pedestrian zone interacted with the outside world. I also remember a a bunch of us discussing it in one of the channels on this server as soon as the dev blog explained them.
I doubt CPP saw the chatter on the server, I think he figured it would work like irl, which it very much doesn't
And even if he read it, I suppose he would assume that most of the viewers did not. And normally one would expect that it work more like a warehouse.
in theory, the developers could have made the deliveries use slow-moving cargo bikes or little cargo vehicles for the last-mile deliveries
but that would have been additional models to create, and would have made the service points function more like cargo train stations (i.e. just a method for vehicles to be converted to a different type, rather than spawn/despawn points)
and wouldn't have been realistic necessarily anyway
the issue is that many IRL pedestrian streets are either small enough that deliveries can be made by a person pushing a cart, or they allow delivery vehicles to drive on the streets after hours
C:S doesn't have enough of a distinct real-time day/night cycle for the latter option
Very fair. Still, what we ended up with (magically teleporting everything) feels like a bit of a cop-out / cash grab on the devs' part.
That's entirely valid. I also think this is one of the more exciting DLCs they've done in awhile, but I might also be equally excited for extra-track metro stations that aren't absurdly fiddly to place. It's sometimes a little hard for me to separate that part from pedestrian areas are something significantly new.
It's not exactly a new thing. As long as you put the main building for a university or theme park on the mainland, the rest of the buildings could be on the island and all services (except fire) would just use the main building. So you were effectively teleporting garbage off the island to the mainland anyway.
it's just weird to be able to also do this for all buildings, not just parks/universities
Hmm. Quite empty. Here's hoping we can change that...soon.
Is this where the Timberborn discussion goes?
yea
He really needs to remove all the berries and replace with trees and farmland.
Just watched the latest Timberborn Video that just went up, Kind of surprised that he didn't add a new district to collect the Metal and send it back for processing?
Also as he expands his city he will likely need to make some of the Dry Area ready for farms and trees etc, the best way I have found to do that lately is with a stand alone Dam with a water dump filling it, with the new Wet Fur need you can put Showers on top of it to kill 2 birds with 1 stone 🙂
Getting around to watch the video and it's so painful watching him waste so much time and resources not understanding how water wheels work.
Oh hey the return of City Tips! Great to see it.
Wonder if Phil realized his city looked like a dog profile
Is there a list of the mods he uses? For his lake valley series
Hey
i see that
Just watched the stream and Owl lake sounded more of a hoot
Two color map of lake valley
I don't see swimming..
Does anyone know what map was used in the latest video? https://youtu.be/1syUxBR60WE
A couple of years back I released a video called Top 5 Cities Skylines Tips for Beginners (From a City Planner). its been a good run
where do i look for a list of mods that cpp uses for lake valley series?
Not sure if this is the correct location for feedback/suggestions to CCP, but as a dark mode/dark room viewer, I'd love it if the interstitial title cards could be white on blue, instead of the current blue on white which hits like a flashbang each time
I just started CWC 78, and what do you know, white on blue. So...uh...good work, thanks for the fast turnaround 😅
What time does he normally upload the new cityskylines 2 video
Is there something like a "general, always used workshop mods" collection that are used through most series? I've not touched C:S in about 4 years so I'm a bit out of touch about what the most commonly used tools and addons are these days.
I don't know how nobody has responded for almost a week, but I would check out Phil's top mods videos, they offer some pretty good recommendations for mod lists.
You can also check out his VB/Tutoria mod list, which contains just graphical and the most basic couple of mods to have something almost vanilla.
Above all, I would use Skyve (https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2881031511) to make sure your mods work well together and that you have all dependencies and everything

CPP has created a list of 15 Basic Mods, the absolute best mods in the game. For a quick explanation on how to use each mod, check out this video in the Tutoria playlist.
For more advanced players, he recommends these 15 Advanced Mods,
which are described in in this video.
CPP also made a Top 20 Mods video at the start of 2021 (Steam collection), but due to modders becoming inactive, game updates, and new mods, some mods on the list are broken and obsolete. An updated collection can be found here with descriptions of all the changes made.
Does anyone have a link to the workshop for the warehouses and recolouring mod mentioned in the Buffleside Crossing video? I can't seem to find them
The recolouring mod is Repaint, I believe: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2101551127
Thanks . I found the warehouses
I had to shake my head at the number at grade crossing in the latest CS 2 video. I hope there are none when the first proper CS2 city begins. At-grade crossings should be avoided as they disrupt the traffic flow. IRL in Melbourne Australia they are spending millions to eliminate them on their suburban train network
Phil's always been awkward with his rail. It's not that difficult to learn the basics, but it doesn't really seem to be something that interests him in the same way the roadwork does. =/
Although, to be fair, I find myself doing some pretty stupid things with my rails in C:S1 too :v

Hi I'm fairly new to city skylines, played a very little bit of CS1, started playing CS2 and been watching the beginner guide series and loving the series as i play cs2 along side watching them, trying to learn the game. will there be more videos out for that series? sorry if this is the wrong place for this
For those who missed the stream: This is a permanent feature of Stream Town now known as Tombstown
(not pictured is the structural loop)
I'm currently making a new town based on Fort William, Scotland, let me know your opinions on what to fix. It is still in progress of making.
Just watched the airports episode and had a thought. Some of that space that was used in the loop in front of the airport I would have fitted with commercial zoning to encourage a hotel or three to setup as it’s not uncommon for hotels to appear next to airports in the UK. Even just little B&Bs outside our smaller ones.
Just popping in to say that I love the New Cycle videos.

Not sure if Phil will see this, but with the announcement of a new mostly vanilla series, I would love to see some amount of focus on education of city planning topics. For a while, I felt like every video had some kind of informative "this is why real cities do XYZ" snippets, but I feel like we have a little bit less in MC.
I would love to see an expansion of the educational aspect. Something like "have you ever wondered why some cities opt for raised highways vs ground level ones?"
Just a thought. I will watch whatever you put out
i love the "why cities do this" and I also love the RP aspect of MC. The RP and "why am I gonna make my city do this" was huge. And I'd love a video that blends both of them. Particularly in a more vanilla way like Segunda
hi cpp what CRS did you use to make segunda beach? i want to make sure my overlay image is right. qgis doesn't recognise the CRS from the heightmap png since there isn't any geo-data
Has the Segunda Bay run been scrapped?
No? There was a new episode of it recorded on twitch a bit ago, I imagine Phil's still in the process of editing it
Or whoever edits it
Classic Phil, posting members-only videos early. 😂
It's not uncommon to post videos early and schedule when they're supposed to go live, the bot is just broke and alerts everyone too soon
did he ever give a reason why hes going mod free? imo the game isnt in a place to support that
his builds have been pretty cool so far though
It's to mirror the Verde beach series
That build was completely vanilla too
Sure, the game is better with mods, but sometimes playing the vanilla game can be fun too, imo
Playing vanilla forces you to be a lot more creative ig
Hello guys, do you know if I can get the save file for Segunda Beach episode 4 anywhere?
Episode 4 is not out, so I assume you mean episode 3
I believe if you're a member, you get access to his save files
Otherwise, he posts them occasionally to non members
- I'm going to stop producing the series live
This is the biggest one for me. I've still been watching SB but it is less interesting to me to watch livestream clips edited together than to watch a planned and organized episode. Neutral on the mods issue, but it would be nice to have some QoL mods so that Phil isn't spending as much time fighting the vanilla game. Thanks for your work, Phil and team. ❤️
Bummed if it moves to mods. I like the idea of a series with no mods whatsoever. I agree about the livestream making it a little less focused and organized.
My main wish for Segunda would echo a sentiment I have had for a while. I would love a series focused on city planning education using CS2 as a teaching tool. I know it's not the most realistic sim but still...
I also think Phil would make an excellent educator
CPP should use some mods for SB but he should avoid doing things that are only possible with mods. It'd also be nice if builds had a part of it that is done entirely within vanilla as a proof of concept.
Defo need to see a Foundation series
Just discovering CPP videos, I have started Verde Beach and been binging it and it's been such a fantastic way to unwind at the end of the day. Not sure if there is a Verde Beach specific section in here, didn' t see one at first glance.
I'm currently showing my Middle School Digital Citizenship the video on your office set up as we're talking about streaming.
What happened to Mulligan’s Crossing (livestream city) with the Canberra map overlay? Why didn’t that city build continue?
can i stream my city for the PC challenge to someone and get feedback please?
dm me if you are interested
W.R.T. the mini-european build Phil was just streaming this Friday, that tram layout made me flinch; it has a big loop (with no stops!) in it with a bunch of sharp angles.
I think this would be much cleaner:
It slices through the greenspace, but it's a tram, so it can still be kept as a green area/park
I'd love to ping, but we're not supposed to =/
thats a good idea
and the block withoiut buildings with the tram cutting through could be aplaza
Yeah, exactly. Plaza or park, something of that nature.
You know what would be wonderful? An asset guide for the vanilla zoneabke buildings like Phil did for the region packs
I keep referring back to the region. Pack asset guide and it’s tremendously useful. I keep wishing that existed for the vanilla assets.
Town to City stream today:
Really enjoying town to city at the moment. Currently on the farming town. Progress so far.
I think I'm almost as excited for more Town To City as I am any of the CS2 series

I went straight from this to the CCP video and the whiplash I experienced could snap titanium
Oh why?
you go from the lord of simulated psychopathic torture to the bob ross of city-building games
what do you expect to happen
Maybe not exactly what you had in mind, but Venexis put together a pretty handy guide to building and zoning footprint sizes, which includes vids of vanilla zoned assets. It’s in the process of being updated but it’s still a good resource. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3062661544
I also found a mod that displays lot sizes for all zones which has come in handy
I wonder if when asset modding becomes available if people will be able to add missing lot sizes in existing zoning.
CPP you ever getting back into W&R:SR? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the depth of the game's systems
yeah cpp become a comrade
The answer was yes
i remember a stream where Phil said he was gonna end verde beach by blasting a freeway through it and basically killing the city
he said he didn’t do it because he got too sentimental, but that he’s going to use it in the future. I have a feeling he’ll do this in segunda beach since it’s basically verdes CS2 twin, and I can’t see it happening in magnolia county
Banff Banff Banff!
Holy double header
BANFF BANFF BANFF
What Phil's done with the rail is driving me batty :v
It's improved this episode but it's still got some nasty pain points
@sour delta why? Explain a bit more
Well, I'm from Calgary, so I know the area reasonably well. The starting rail line by Banff in the real world is a major freight trunk, part of a transcontinental corridor, that dates back something like a hundred forty years, and it's still in heavy active use today.
And Phil stuck a passenger station just right on it.
S'like sticking a stoplight on a freeway
The other thing going on is that he relocated the freight station, so now its alignment and angles make sense, but he's got long modded freight trains going on, and they're long enough that they'll dangle out onto the mainline when they're parked in the station
So the nubs that lead into the station need to be a lot longer in order to accommodate that and avoid blocking it.
The way the real Banff handles this is by splitting a secondary line off from the trunk at either end of the township, which needs to be done real soon in the series or it'll be very difficult to do because of all the stuff you'd need to relocate.
Also I really must reiterate for anyone unfamiliar: the Banff area is absolutely gorgeous and, as pretty as the pictures and videos (which you should absolutely check out) of the area are, they don't really do it justice. Actually being out in the open and seeing those landscapes is an experience like nothing else.
For example, y'know how Phil mentioned that the reason the town exists in the first place in real life is the hot springs?
This is what they look like
Thank you that makes sense.
aw man, this one's member-locked
ok now it's up for everyone
... I think calling anything to do with that grocery store 'walkable' might be a stretch :v
Phil's trying to build this like he's got elbow room and Banff really just doesn't, even without the park constraints -- there's just so much mountain about the place
I'd be looking for the denser assets without as much attached parking, I think.
I love the Banff videos but it does hurt who goes there regularly. Part of the charm of Banff is you can’t build like crazy. But that said Phil you need to seriously look at the landmarks that make Banff special. Banff Springs hotel and golf courses. The hot springs, the bike trails through the Bow Valley, bus service serving the area. Heck even the massive concrete plant east of Canmore is a landmark.
Yeah, I drive by that on the reg, it's such a beast
I've wondered for years what the idea is behind the big geodesic
And yeah the real Banff is way denser than you'd expect such a small town to be because they can't expand
Even granting that Phil's build can spread more, between the mountains and the Bow (and now the won't-cut-down-the-forest limitation), there's just not a whole lot of space, especially flat space.
And yes for the love of heaven do some Street View or check out some 'we visited Banff/Canmore' pictures/vids because maaaaaaaaaaaaan some of this is just Not Banff :v

Guys whats the slope mod that CPP uses thats not avalive on Paradox mods?
its the same mod he uses for the super node creation
the mod is network tools
Hi everyone just coming in to say how excited I am about the Banff series! I'm a planner in Saskatchewan (Alberta's neighbour) and work primarily serving Indigenous communities. Additionally, I'm a skier and have been spending as many weekends as I can squeeze in the Banff area my whole life and am intimately familiar with the area. Ski towns are also my special interest so I closely follow the planning in that region as well.
Just wanted to say I would love to keep seeing incorporating the indigenous folks in that area into thks series. Historically, Banff and the park and the Canadian government have done a terrible job in their relationship with the first nation's in that area and would love to make that a key part of this series, as it should be for many/most planning that takes place in Canada!
Yeah, like for example when the park was established, one of the things they did was force the FN people there out (the big railway hotels and stuff? a-ok, they were the reason they were creating the park in the first place after all)
I gotta say some of the suggestions I see under the vids to do things like put a Hollywood sign up on Tunnel Mountain or have some kind of roadside 'worlds biggest ball of yarn' kitsch make me wince :v
Banff is a ridiculously beautiful area, it doesn't need stuff like that to draw visitors; it would actively ruin the whole reason people go there in the first place
Actually here's a vid of someone riding the gondola: https://youtu.be/sGZ-EGfQyhE?t=803 just to share with anyone who hasn't been through the area
Today we took a gondola to the top of a mountain in Banff… and we still can’t believe the feeling we had when we got up there! 🇨🇦

I am building along with the Banff series and subscribed to the playset in Skyve. I received all of the mods and assets except for the texture replacer theme, the Canadian flag, and the baseball field. Does anyone know if there is anything I need to do in Skyve to accept updates to the playset?
Good lord the overbuilding of the roads in this Banff episode
A massive ring-road encircling a tiny community, an elevated divided highway the size of the TransCanada slamming straight into a local roundabout, and hooked into the TransCanada about with a triple-stack free-flow junction about fifty feet from another (much more sensible) interchange
Like if you don't have a TransCanada highway in your back yard or be one of the world's most famous tourist areas, this is the kind of highway infrastructure you get for a town of this sort of size:
As much as I like the idea of no deforestation, I think the most realistic thing would be to require a natural restoration element to any development. You can remove trees, but you gotta put 2 back for every mature tree removed. Sometimes the added cost of making up for the ugly part is still worth it for certain projects.
Live streaming webcam of Main Street in Canmore, Alberta, Canada. https://canmorealberta.com/webcams/main-street
With the most recent episode’s focus on 15-minute cities, I feel like even less parking at the grocery stores would fit that goal even better.
I lived in Frankfurt for a couple years, and was fortunate enough to live in the epitome of a 15-minute neighborhood with 10+ grocery stores in a 10-15 minute walk (apartment near red X). Here are three of the same chain within a 12 minute walk of each other (one even sharing a wall with an Aldi). The lack of parking is exactly why the neighborhood was so walkable in the first place.
I know this build is North American, but might still be inspiring.
This is what the real Banff's IGA looks like: It's more than those are, but for a Canadian grocery store it's pretty modest, and matches up with the one he placed at the 9:30 mark pretty well: https://www.google.com/maps/place//@51.1796129,-115.5710949,3a,75y,254.71h,86.84t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sNmd0Hp4EznB6vs1UC9aWVw!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fcb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26pitch%3D3.161283181896337%26panoid%3DNmd0Hp4EznB6vs1UC9aWVw%26yaw%3D254.7090188223525!7i16384!8i8192?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDUxMy4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
Also, I really hate to do this given how much time and care Phil clearly put into that rink build, but there are two glaring problems with it:
- the drainage issue, since it sits in the bottom of a pit; everything down there is going to flood every spring.
- because the tram goes directly over the rink, the light for anyone using the rink is going to be really uneven -- centre ice is in shadow and even the best artificial floodlights are going to struggle to match daylight, especially with such a low roof.
I think putting the rink in the now-empty square block right beside it would've been much more sensible.
You'd get better space utilization and you'd avoid the realism issues
On a slightly related note I hate what's gone on with the town hall. The intersection in front of it lacks a movement, and the grounds are ridiculously grandiose.
Tuck that sucker neatly into the street grid and make that triangle junction into a T or a roundabout 🙁
watching the latest video i saw a pillar in the road. Would this be the right place to say it? love the series ❤️
I think there's a possibility of requiring another centrally located parking garage, though that may just be me thinking downtown's bigger than it actually is
Phil really needs to lower that bridge, it is way too tall
Dropping it to ground level to integrate it into the grids on either side would look better & make more sense
Maybe people arent going to walk here and sit on these benches when there's no crosswalk and cars are going 30-35 mph (kmh?)
not that its bad. but the city should remove the benches. upkeep wastes gov funds
Every time I see that junction I hate it a little more
There's no left turns!
It has no reason to exist like that!
The city hall already has a grounds better suited for a palace than a city hall, you don't need more in a random street cranny!
Like that single thing might drive me nuts enough to try doing a buildalong to address all the pain points I keep seeing
The super high bridge into 2nd towntown and the highway interchange spam also get my goat :v
That's why it works
it should be a custom roundabout in the middle, and maybe keep the two branches as turn lanes. you can have a monument in the middle. but thats the european in me speaking
half way through watching the new video and this curb that isnt dropped is really bugging me 😭
idk if its meant to be like this or if it gets fixed later in the video
It's kinda funny how many people don't get the scale that Banff is and talk about e.g. the airport that just got built being 'a long way away' or whatever
It's practically next door!
'bout fifteen minutes by the highway
Oh, also, w.r.t. the ski resort suggestions, here's some vid from Norquay, which sits just above the town (plus Sunshine): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vTsMoVFXO8E
That's it... I'm moving to Banff. Where else can you ski perfectly fresh corduroy at one resort in the morning (Norquay) and get to the next (Sunshine Village) a few hours later for fresh powder and insane inbounds couloir skiing. After my speedy November rip for first chair, It was amazing skiing Norquay properly. It's an absolute gem and has s...
I feel that
- it would be more economical just to have the one gate on the exit
- Not that I'd normally expect traffic to come in but that is showing access in at that side.
I dislike the lack of pedestrian side-walks in that area as well. If you work in the area but use public transit to the airport stops or for the hotel, how do you safely walk to the area?
There's plenty of pedestrians walking there. I get the speeds aren't high but
The solution for me would've been to shorten the drop off area. It's a regional airport, how many would've drove there I wonder?
Made it work at least 😅, but I'd have preferred an integrated transit stop
Alternate thought on the approach to the airport. I feel they'd have gone the cheaper area of sloping it up the side of the hill. But 3% is workable. Sheffield's tram network is 10% in places. Tunnelling is expensive
Also just a thought but in my opinion most developments: track runs parallel, joins up later and you put a tram stop in the area for commuter uses in the area.
It's cheaper, quicker and less intrusive surely to run it parallel on a new track bed than rip up a street and widen the road like that.
I feel there'd be local demand for a tram stop if it runs through the area.
I need to watch the episode but from these screenshots I'm not understanding why the tram to the airport didn't follow the highway or the CP line. It's a pre-set alignment that wouldn't've required tunnelling and already has modest curves and grades, that runs right past the airport.
The only reason I can think of if there was planned development, to serve other towns on the way, or if that was the only way to get there
But it doesn't seem to add much to some of that pre-existing development
fires up C:S2 for the literal actual first time ever because some of these decisions have bugged me so much
Some views from Sunshine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLetegl2Y6s
On our first chair ride up Laura said, "Why were you hiding this from me?... She'll also have a few words for me when she gets home and hears the fart edit in the intro 😂. My inner child always gets the best of me ;). In all seriousness, Sunshine Village has some of the most insane scenery in Canadian skiing. After managing the odd parking lo...
And I'm sorry for posting all these videos but like, I live out here and it's so frustrating trying to convey just what a special place the Banff parks really are to people who haven't been there with just words.
You get up on top of those mountains and it's straight up a spiritual moment
Pictures and videos can't do it justice either, but they can get you closer
But you need to be there in person, feeling the wind and the quiet and the totality of the panorama, to really understand. I hope Phil makes the trip someday.
While watching the latest video, adding the tram to the airport, the snow falling showed that the primary runway isn’t lined up with the primary wind direction. Landing on a slick runway in a strong cross wind is a disaster waiting to happen.
Public works in New Banff have made a booboo on Main Street and the mayor doesn't seem to want to take them to task and get it fixed. A section of the couplet is reported to have incorrect markings and drivers are going the wrong way via a pedestrian street that the police department is having trouble enforcing.
Anybody know the upload schedule for New Banff?
tuesday through saturday but it can be off by a few hours
@lofty estuary thank you
This week Monday is a U.S. holiday, so next one should be Wednesday.
Update: I'm nowhere near as good with the tools as Phil is but it turns out the RL Banff road layout was pretty good bones to build on.
Haven't had to touch the grade tool yet 😄
Random thoughts while looking through some of the older NB videos
The tram turning radii are very tight and that makes the trams derp out a bit around corners
Would be good to do through and increase the curve radii a bit
