There's a lot of cool stuff to learn from this, though. One is that it IS possible to hide stuff in plain sight, but once people go looking for it, they will find it. Another thing is that people seem to want to get excited over things, even if you tell them it's nothing major.

I tried shrinking down by removing empty pixels and then also reducing each 2x2 ...

it seems like the background array of 2x2 squares is slightly inconsistent, since each square grid section is 35x35, it doesn't fit evenly pixel by pixel when shrunk to 17x17
if you overlay this image over the original and resize it to match the original size it'll look like it's basically de-noising the image
