The nether used to be like the overworld with large beasts and ice biomes. Because of the nether room being made of bedrock, the souls were never able to leave and lingerd making soul sand. Soul sand covered most biomes. A type of fungus started to feed off of the soul sand, spreading so fast it made the crimson forests. Large mammoth-like pigs tried to move to these biomes. The ones that survived began to shrink making hoglins. Some evolved like us and became the piglins. Also like humans they started their own industrial revolution. Heating up the nether. Turning the stone into netherrack. Lots of places just straight up melted making the lava pool that spans across the nethers floor. All diamonds heated up and became netherite. Ice biomes fused with soul sand and increasing heat transformed into the basalt deltas and Endermen started to drain into the nether. Turning some of the crimson forests into the warped forests. At some point they built bastions and farmed magma cubes for their magma cream. They separated the slime and created the blaze rods out of the blaze powder. They invaded the overworld but failed. Leaving most of their technology they fell into a chain reaction. The hunt piglins and spore piglins both died off leaving the bastion piglins alone. They lost their mass amounts of gold and iron, their technology, their leaders and their medics. Some race from the overworld built the nether fortress, made blazes, and might have even built a wither to kill the piglins.

you find the rib trim in the nether fortress which looks like the withers shield. meaning withers skeletons were suppose to be there. piglins also dont like wither skeletons so i doubt piglins built the nether fortress. having it so that the wither was used as a weapon agents the piglings just makes sense. you do fine basalt in bastions which could show the bastion is old or that the wither hit those places with skulls.
