It's a very hard instinct to correct but you'll get it. Pads look lame but they can save your ass and a lot of health care costs. I also highly recommend Skater Trainers to develop your ollie skill safely.

broooo this brings back so many memories man.. i had a friend who i skated with all my life. he got hit by a truck and became paralyzed from the waist down and he actually used one of these feather weight boards to get from his bed to his wheelchair every day. even after it all he still put this board to good use. they are just independent bolts. they use standard black bolts. im waiting to borrow my brothers drill to finish installing all the screws to the board rails. The epoxy fiberglass ply is too much work to try and screw them in with a screwdriver. I will skate it after that

Just picked these up for new for only £30

There isn’t much I don’t paint with. Also no blank decks, just a sanding machine. The longboard was relatively new, the cruiser is an old skate deck cut to shape, re drilled holes to make the wheel base smaller.

Materials used on these decks are Amsterdam Acrylic Paints, Three different wood stains (plus wood imitation by hand), pisco acrylic markers, ink, and a large assortment of brushes Id have to look at receipts to find out.

Oh nearly forgot, I went to a professional paint shop to get my varnish lacquer, it was a yacht/boat lacquer that doesn’t try brittle, allowing for flex.

Brushes are probably the least of y’all’s worries, mine are too expensive for this kinda stuff.

Also, I use rolls of paper to make a template, and for the cruiser I then used said template to make up a new shape, then used that to cut it up. Tip, use your truck holes to make your template always line up nicely.

oh wow, that was quite indept, thanks a lot. I expected the pisco markers, but not the whole preparation of the board. Id does make the finish look quite professional.

Looking back at it now, i notice the dark wooden backdrop and lacquer finish, which made me realize its something i never seen in custom skateboard art, usually i just see the lighter wood grain. but the darker background does make the pictures pop.

Do you use those boards or did you do them for clients?

try to level your foot out, dont use the hell otherwise you will flip your board like your feeling says

but put some of your weight on the back while in the powerslide position, otherwise you will fly to the front

Transition into smooth grass and slide maybe? That way if you fall you land on grass and mud.

Power slides are scary cos you have to give it 100% conviction, my rule with longboarding in general (hills beyond your level, tricks, and power slides) if you are not confident, don’t freaking do it.

If your cocky as heck and arrogant, but deep down know it’s a bad idea? Don’t do it. If your confident, and feeling brave? Go for it.

It’s all about maintaining center of weight in balance with the board. Generally, that mark of “weight” is a little below your hips when standing straight up, so you compensate a little, when turning, it pushes the center of gravity closer to the board.

To build up to power slides, find a nice circular spot you can skate in, and go until your dizzy, try and find the TIGHTEST turning radius you can get on it. You will be leaning over the ground because of speed, and weight moving the center of weight away from the turn, so lean in equilibrium.

It’ll feel right, you’ll feel like it’s a roller coaster almost, and gravity and you and the board, are one.

Once you’ve gotten comfortable with the sharpest turns you can make, get very comfortable with falling. Learn how to fall without hurting yourself like stuntment. 3 points of contact when you hit, and SLAP with them, your knee, hand and shoulder? Kinda push up and away when you hit. Not super reflexively and like rolling, but just a little slap to impart most of the momentum into those three spots before body to equal out some of the blow.

Wear heavy clothes, long pants jeans, and a backpack or jacket you don’t mind ripping up.

It’s really a matter of just digging your either heels or toes into the side you need to push into the slide from the back.

Make sure your gravity is good, and you’re mildly gripping with toes/griptape, and you should be able to hit it, if you commit to it. It takes a particular situation to feel it yknow. A certain confidence, arrogance but 100% actually sure you can do it.

The only times I’ve ever wiped out was when I knew I shouldn’t have done some.

Watch professional downhill longboarders to get good stance. Men and women get different gravity’s. So different distribution. Women have it easier I’ve heard.

For men we’re top heavy, and pushing gravity down is hard. I like the cross knee method, where ya make like an x shape with the knees and bend at the hip. Feels fun, offers decent control when you get a feel

Not flicking it into a flip, I’ve never been able to do a flip, but sliding requires like you to kinda grab the board with your dominant foot, and push it out of the equilibrium.

To do a flick trick I think you need some kinda lip or angle to the board and all my longboards have been flat

Not to say you can’t do it with flat longboards, just that I can’t.

The way people dance on longboards is intoxicating and it’s the rhythm, the feel of gravity you and the board that needs to be found before doing power slides.

If you feel like your dancing when curving and cruising around, that you feel like it’s an extension of your body, then I feel you’re power slide ready.

Ah that should help then, I feel like you could utilize the tail for grip in some slides. Depends on how you feel while riding.

And that’s why I loved my electric board when I had it. 50mph, brakes definitely was fun on the country hill roads I had access to, and the city I live in now

Everything changed for me when I stopped just slamming my toe down on the tail trying to get it to pop up. The pop comes from the flick motion you do with the side of your front foot. Once I started doing that it made so much sense

I disagree on this personally. You're right that some do but really when most of them are just variations on the same stamped logo (which is a good one albeit) it's not that hard.
