regular no-name longboard trucks (single kingpin)
Mwehehehe
Wait, by regular longboard trucks, you mean kingpin in or kingpin out?
NICE!!!
looks dope man
In.
@random epoch No selling in this server.
Dope!
What's the board brand/size? I know you mentioned it in the past but I can't seem to find it now
Golden Beach
What a cool deck. 😄
Looks so similar to my pintail, but when I put those same 9balls on mine I forgot they weren't offset and grippy like my previous ones. Ended up on a turn going too fast, slipped out unexpectedly and ate it lol
Yall know some really good decks
Ehhhh....
About that...
@stiff raptor my board came cracked
And the second i got on it it also cracked some more
Can I issue a refund? Or maybe get another one for free??
God dammit this sucks
Depending on where you bought it, you definitely should check.
Amazon saudi Arabia, there's 2 boards still in stock
Also if I ask on Amazon I can get it replaced, not get a new one
Which is sad cuz I wanted to get two boards lol
A guy in the reviews said he got a second free board because his grip tape wasn't on properly
How come he gets a second board and I need to trade in my broken one
I would give it a try. I’m so sorry that happened!
Yeah, it sucks
So you don't think I can contact sector9 immediately? @stiff raptor
Cut the middle man
They’d probably tell you to contact Amazon.
How tight should my wheels be? I'm wiggling my wheel around and there feels like a lot of wiggling
That's too loose.
You don't want a ton of play if you try to wiggle the wheels. You're going to wear out your bearings really quickly if the wheels aren't tight enough.
I've heard different opinions on it. Some manufacturers say to tighten the wheels all the way down. Spinning the wheels while the board is upright doesn't really tell you how the wheels will roll with your weight on them.
But if you go too tight, I've seen people damage their bearings that way.
You don't want to press your tool all the way into the side of the bearing, or you might bend the shield.
I usually tighten them just enough that there's no wiggle.
Ah right, thank you
I've tightened mine to the point where there's a really small amount of wiggle
Like a miniscule bit
I'll probably buy some new bearings soon anyways. Been wanting to for a while, plus I feel like one of my wheels sound pretty dodgy
Avoid
They’re all probably ancient stock
And stored without climate control pre-assembled
Definitely
The heat here is melting hot
No wonder why it came broken
What do you suggest I should do then? @wet cairn
Sorry for my language
It’s a tough one for you. Best bet is to try and find a local skate shop/chain around SA and see if they have what you want.
@polar shadow LocoSonix and Siteen Street are two potential options I’m seeing.
They might have better controlled inventory that they can ship within country.
Oh sure sure let me buy my 44 dollars skateboard from locosonix for 195 dollars
No problem
A lot of places will have clearance sales a few times a year to make room for newer decks and the like. You might luck out.
@5NRLX#5654 locosonix sells vans for DOUBLE the original price
This isn't the case here, its the only shop in the whole country
They control the prices
Their cheapest complete board is 550 SAR
Ah, sorry.
Dang. Those really are pricey.
Is there like... a Facebook Marketplace kind of thing?
https://www.desertcart.com.sa has some cheaper stuff, but I have no idea what most of those boards are.

Still pricy, but I love Landyachtz longboards and cruisers like this one: https://locosonix.com/collections/clearance/products/ly-longboard-atv-x-ditch-life-dark-wave-31
Designed by team rider Mackenzie Yoshida, this board is perfectly suited to the epic concrete ditches he shreds regularly. It features a wide platform and plentiful concave to keep you locked on while skating sketchy terrain. HIGHLIGHTS 100% Canadian Maple Medium Concave Sanded Wheel Wells Kicktail
I absolutely love my dinghy! And it's a great step up in size for a penny board. I take mine with me everywhere
Yeah! I have a dinghy blunt, and I absolutely love it.
I wish their surfskate was better, or I'd have one of those, too. It's very pretty and comfortable, but I find the turning a bit too weird. Holding out for a Carver.
Oh yeah! I had gotten a waterborne adapter, but it was a bit too twitchy on the dinghy. So I found their schooner board which is just a little bigger, got some Paris street trucks and put the adapter on that. Lots of fun
Their version of the surf skate just doesn't seem like it's got enough turning radius or rebound to make it snappy. But I've been thinking about getting their front surf truck, putting higher rebound bushing on it and seeing how it does as a long distance pump truck
That sounds like a blast.
Yeah, it just never feels right to me. I expect more carve and can never seem to get it. Not like some of the other makes out there.
It definitely doesn't seem to have that surfing cutback motion it needs. I haven't tried a carver out yet but I'd like to one day. I just like the idea of a the waterborne using a bushing instead of a spring that breaks eventually . And the amount of lean you get with their rail adapter is nuts, you really feel the tight carve in a pocket
That sounds amazing. I might have to look into that.
I'd be posting about my skate progress, but i got covid lol
Once im feeling better ill continue practicing pushing, kick turns, and all the other basics
ballin
dawg stationary manual is so hard lmao
I've been trying to do it for longer than 4 seconds all day
Slowly getting there but jeez
A stationary wheelie on a bike is harder than moving as well. It's the motion that helps
ok i havent skated in a while and I wanna get back into it, should I start where i left off or do i pick everything back up
Im thinking i should pick up everything but im not too sure
I would try to start with basics again just to make sure you still got it
because like I'm in the same boat and I forgot a lot of the muscle memory
trucks are so expensive buy i gotta buy good quality
is thunder alr?
you also buy 147mm for a 8 inch right?
I have friends who swear by Thunder. I'm still rocking my Indy's though.
idk theyre like the same thing anyway
Depends on the trucks! Whatever their chart on their website says.
Yeah, it's what you're comfortable with. Some are a little lighter, some feel more responsive... When in doubt, ask your skate shop!
Ahhh, yeah. But you can text chat with other skate shops, too. I ask my local questions all the freaking time over their chat feature on their site, or via Twitter.
They're probably sick of me, lol
love indes for the quality but buying them online is expensive. i managed to get what would’ve been £70-80 indes for £50
so i should buy them in store?
if you can yes
all i got is zummiez i wish i had a local i could support
I just meant if you find an authentic skate shop online, you can ask them. 🙂
Idk if anyone is able to help me out with this, but I saw some guy skating downtown and he had this deck that was a light pink with a yellow star near the truck and then white graffiti looking writing. Does anyone here know what deck that could be? It looked sick but I can’t find anything online
Do you think its possible to put 7.75 trucks on an 8.00in deck
I think you can yes, but maybe it feels weird
i was thinking of doing that as well
you can but its better to buy newer ones
the fitting would just be off
bro im thinking of buying half cabs or nyjahs next my blazers have 0 cushioning
like i bought them as a complete beginner but now im doing stairsets and grinds
You might even like the feel. It's close to matching but just a tad small. Easier to do flip tricks with but it might be a little more twitchy. Always fun to experiment with
Worst case, you don't like it and you have to get new trucks.
Building a box full of older parts is like a right of passage. 😄
You can do whatever you want, it’s really all preference, however you’ll probably deal with a lot more wheel bite and won’t be able to do any primo stuff. No harm in experimenting
The first skate game was an L the rest are W
Are y’all trolling with the longboards?
There is haraj.com
It does have some good stuff
A lot of trash but you can find good boards
?
That's a nice looking setup. A little age on it but still looks like it's got some use left in it. Especially if you're looking for a starter to learn on
I'm stoked! I just found out I can bring my board on a cruise ship! I'm just prohibited from skating it on the ship lol
That's awesome! A skate spot in every port?
I'm gonna try and make it one if I can lol
That's like bucket list level stuff there.
Yo I have a question I’m thinking about getting new wheels but I want spitfire classics but in formula 4 is there any differences between regular classic and formula 4s
I don't know, but I love my new Formula 4s. 😄
the formula 4s are less prone to flat spots. only downside is they’re just a little more expensive than the regulars and they look “off-white” compared to the regulars because of the formula they use
i have 53mm spitfire formula 4 classics and i like them a lot
i’ve tried the 56mm formula 4 radials too, lots of riding surface
riser pads are always the same right?
because i hada 775 inch deck and im moving to 8 inch buying new trucks and all that
can i re use my old riser with 1 inch hardware?
Yeah, totally.
can someone help me with a irl trick
Oh, I missed the 1" part. Depends on how thick the riser pads are.
oh nvm there’s a channel for it
Both channels work! Good luck.
Are you reusing the same hardware, or new hardware?
new hardware my old ones just rusty and its like only 3 bucks
ill resue bearings and wheels save as much as i can
Assuming you're deck is about 1/2in think and the riser pad is about 1/8in and the nut needed to lock it is about 1/4, a 1in might work
How I always go a little longer to be safe and a little extra length doesn't hurt anything unless it's really jutted out
Yeah. I'd probably go to 1.25", myself. But really depends on that riser.
@noble current have you seen those new real cathedral decks?
would zummiez deliver early or nah 😭
Oh wow. Not until now! Those are gorgeous! Noooo, more pretty things! I am weak!
i want to but my skate deck and trucks form america because taxes are cheaper and shi but if i ship it to my uncles house i might not get it
im only staying the long weekend and no one really deliveres on weekends
i shouldve bought it yesteraday
Cheaper as opposed to?
the zion wright one looks amazing
I want all of them! I might have a problem. 😄
My most recent board is my first pro deck. I really need to get over my avoidance of scuffing it, lol. Haven't even ollied with the poor, neglected board.
So. Dang. Pretty. 😭
It was way too good a deal to pass up.
I’ll probably go with these
I usually ride 52s but I don’t mind a mm difference
Yeah, not a huge difference there.
a mm difference isn’t huge i think you’ll be ok
Even going from 52 to 55, it only took a minute to adjust.
personally i think 52-54 is probably the sweet spot for a lot of things
what wheels do you ride right now?
Any help with catching heelflips/kickflips with my back foot instead of front foot
I pull my front foot back to catch it and I think that’s selling my flick
Well boys after not skating IRL since 2016 I’m now trying to get back into it. I only rode cruisers cause I filmed for my friends but I’m gonna try and hit a park tomorrow and work my way up to dropping in before I move to South FL.
You got this mann
Practice landing them with your front foot landing on the ground, like a mongo push, catching only with your back foot.
Well I haven’t dropped in yet but I hit my first Ollie before heading out to the park
I’ve gotta get it consistent and it’s a small thing but I hit it and it still feels good
That's excellent!
Yeah I hit that but couldn’t drop in today. Didn’t wanna do it without anybody there to make sure I don’t die
That's totally fair.
It’s already something mate, next day you drop in
It’s something
I don't know if you noticed or not but Landyatchtz has a scratch and dent section that takes a chunk off the price
https://landyachtz.com/collections/oops#oopsboards
I just got an email that they are moving and everything on their site is 20%-30% off
[I don't need it... I don't need it.... I don't need it... I NEEEEED IT]
OMG, why would you do that to me???!! 😄 😄
I needed someone else to feel my pain 😅
Whew, not nearly as much available on their Canadian site. My temptation levels are at a healthier level again.
Though I did find a retailer out of BC who ships surfskates for free within Canada, so now I have that temptation hitting again. And only like a month or two left before my skate window closes.
Wow, though. These are amazing prices.
I've been wanting that Dinghy Emboss ever since I went for the blunt instead. It was between the Emboss and the one I eventually went with. Why do you tempt me??! Argh.
The Dinghy Blunt Pinecone Skateboard is an all purpose cruiser that pays homage to the conifer rich rainforests of the Pacific North West region in which we reside. Our Dinghy Blunt shape has a little extra width where you need it and a good amount of taper to allow for a more directional feel and some added room around the front foot. Matched u...
yo what there are some amazing deals here
every single one of them is sold out :sadge
i will definitely keep that in mind though
The site i plan to buy my future front bumper off of does this same thing so ill probably be buying mine that way 😅
That's how I found the complete I got when I first got back into skateboarding after coughmumblesomething years. It was nothing special, but that meant I wasn't afraid to ding it up, too, because it came that way! 😄
Yeah i can get a 800 dollar carbon fiber bumper for like 500 that way since it had a small visual defect
If you want a waterborne adapter keep an eye on their site/sign up for their emails, I got mine for a pretty good deal on sale, don't remember what time of year it was though. I swear I'm not sponsored by them lol
Lol. Good idea.
just get a black marker and cover the scratches. no one will even question it 😅
unless they’re having a closer look 😥
vroom
Any ideas on what a good price for good bearings are? I want to get new bearings for my board but have no idea what to expect
Around $15-$25 USD (I use bones reds for street and Zealous on my longboards)
But I know CSS makes some good ones for around $12 if you are looking for cheaper
I'll keep those names in mind
I'm hoping to go down to my skate shop later in the week
bones reds are pretty good for the price, lowest being £15 ($17)
i remember talking to somebody here about the bronsons
@noble current hey, how are those bronsons bearings working out for you?
thing is bronsons and bones reds are the same price from what i’ve seen, so it might be down to personal preference
I haven't noticed much of a difference so far, though it's been too hot to really put the Bronsons to the test. Just rolling them on my fingers right out of the box, they weren't nearly as smooth as the Bones. Like... I felt there was friction. I haven't added oil or anything yet, though.
So I guess it might depend on your style. I skate street. Not sure if my opinion would be different in park or vert.
I skate street mainly because I've never been to a park yet.
This is also making me think if I should get new wheels too, but I feel like my wheels aren't worn enough to make it worth it
as long as they aren’t really small it should be fine. but if buying skate parts makes you happy then i don’t see why not
I probably won't buy wheels then, can probably get about 2 more years out of them
Reds is the best
Yeah, I'll probably stick with Reds moving forward. I was just curious about the Bronsons, since they were so similarly priced.
The similar priced Bronsons are probably equal in quality. The more expensive Bronson Raws are by far my favorite bearings though. The shieldless ones.
All I ride.
Shieldless? Do they get dirty faster?
I haven't had issues from it, but I'm typically not skating the dirtiest spots. They are shiedless though so you can just stick em in alcohol, shake them around, and then lube them back up. Good to go.
I might try em next time I need a pack
Highly suggest!
I hear windex is amazing for cleaning them
Nice, I'll have to give it a shot.
skated for the first time yesterday 🙏
only rode about for a bit
literally today though, my friend fell off of a skateboard and his front tooth fully came out
nice!
i remember talking to you about getting your first board, what did you decide on?
i ended up getting a creature complete
the bearings suck on it though
creature make some pretty good decks, good choice
do creature make their own trucks and wheels?
not sure
from searching it up it looks like it
it doesn’t say anywhere that theyre branded. probably just their own wheels and trucks
creature is lit
cop some spitfire wheels or powell peralta dragon formula wheels and some bones bearings, that'll do you right
@near jungle probably your best bet
oh oops i tagged the wrong person
but ye
spitfire formula 4 classics are pretty good
Progress update: I’ve landed my first few Shuvits and I’ve learned how to reduce speed wobbles. I’ve been kicked out of my first location and I’m having a blast!
i remember when you first just started skating and you posted your deck here, nice job man
i wish i could make solid progress like you. unfortunately i’m a bit of a fat wuss so learning to skate again is a bit hard
I’m trying out power slides rn, any sort of physical activity is all a mental game, that’s all
you’ll have them in no time with your speed
Yeah, my one wipeout so far was a hill bomb lol
do superstars make good skate sheos
Also is there a way I can like make mob grip ruin my shoes a little less or nah?
There's ways you can reinforce your shoes a little bit with shoe goo and other small hacks, but honestly, not really. All grip tape is basically nothing but sandpaper. Not much you can do to stop sandpaper from striping things down other than wear it out so it's not as grippy, but then you stick to it less
just get grizzly? lol, gotta deal with mob destroying unless you shoe goo
think of skate shoes as disposable as boards, you skate them till they're done then replace
you use them until you physically cant anymore
like the bottom wears out
or the deck snaps
yeah exactly
holes in shoes arent even a sign to stop
u skate them jawns til the top fallin off
or til bottom grip wears out
after a year of skating with pretty crap ollies it happened, a solution, i figured it out, my foot positioning!!!!
i now arise to a knew challange, 'the kickflip' i have the 'flip' part down but when i go to 'ollie' the board mu back foot doesnt go straight up causing the board to fling out 😫
You'll get there!
Just had the best sesh
what happened?
nice
i landed my first kickflip for some time ago!!😲
Nice !
I have a question real quick!
Is it not good that I (a beginner) grind the nose of my board on the floor?
Also getting the hang of doing ollies
Anyone skate irl and can tell me if I’m good for my first day on learning how to Ollie and what I’m doing wrong?
First day isnt anything to think too hard about. practice, practice, patience, practice.
it WILL take time
Can i dm you the clip?
Post it in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips
I have never been more motivated in my life to improve at skating just so I can film a clip of me dressed as Finn the human hitting a heelflip on halloween
I got my new bearings a week ago and I've tested them out throughout the week. Smooth and lovely!
Finally went to a skatepark too, think I went good for a first day. Can anyone suggest what I should focus on working on at the park next time I go?
which bearings did you get?
solid choice
haha yeah no wonder
bones reds are so good for the price
Hey guys I put my board together last night and noticed that my trucks are squeaking a lot more than I thought they would. What can I do to lessen the squeaks?
could be the bushings or the pivot cup. i’ve seen people use soap or wax on the pivot cup and it seemed to stop squeaking a bit
Get a bar of soap and take a knife and make some shavings and put those shavings around your bushings
^
my boards been squeaking for some time and i pretty much just thought it was the bushings “breaking in”
i’ll give it a try some time soon
It means your bushings are a little dry
Definitely not lol
yeah that’ll ruin them
but the soap will be fine
just not liquid soap
@near geyser i’ve got a link talking about how to do it, but the guy uses bones speed cream instead of soap https://youtu.be/xMI8_BdUsbI
Don't buy expensive pivot cups! This is how you can stop squeaky trucks easily.
An alternative to bearing lube for this method is skate wax shavings.
Thanks everyone for the help! I'll check out the video as well
i’ve got one where he uses soap for longboard trucks too
should just be the exact same as a skateboard https://youtu.be/6nYVvESTda0
Squeaky or clicky longboard trucks is a more common issue than you might realise!
Neither problem is something to really worry about, but we get asked about it often enough for us to write a quick explainer.
We find that squeaking or clicking trucks is not really noticable once you're up to speed, but we also know how annoying it can be if you...
correct me if i’m wrong but it should be right
not sure why he used pencil graphite in this video, but it might help to use that
Graphite makes a good powder lubricant. Use it with machining equipment sometimes
*NOT recommend for bearings
Thanks for the tips everyone! I've now ran into a new issue with the board. The hex nuts on my trucks won't stay in place. My Skate tool doesn't have anything that will keep it locked in as I'm tightening the screws.
You mean your bolts are unscrewing or you still trying to get it set up and that you don't have a wrench and a screw driver?
I figured it out. I was supposed to screw in the nuts with a 3/8 part of my skate tool and kept the screw from moving. lol
Sorry I'm still trying to learn the terms for the hardware lol'
We all start somewhere!
No we don’t
Those who don't start don't live.
yo I have a question, i was adjusting my trucks to make them a bit loose, and when i start riding it ocasionaly makes a loud cracking noise, should I be worried?
Can you video that or send a pick of your trucks? A cracking sound is definitely a cause for concern
I might go to a local skate park near me today, I will definitly try to record it if i do go
Any tips for pulling my back foot up when heelflipping
I can do it while ollieing but heelflips are different for me
Week 4 I think*
Progress update:
I'm a lot more comfortable on the board then i was last week. All of the tricks or maneuvers that I do know are very close to muscle memory. Riding in general feels a lot more natural, and I'm starting to get ollies, but just barely. I currently have the beginner rocket ollies under my belt lol. I can do shuvits stationary, but not consistently whilst moving. I would like some tips on that as well.
Shuvit problems; moving**
Whenever I try to shuvit while moving, I either underrotate, do a hippy jump, or simply don't land on the board. I'm not sure if this is simply a commitment issue, or if i need some more practice, but I thought i'd put this here regardless.
All in all, I'm having a ton of fun, and i'm still getting ugly looks in my neighborhood full of old people lol. <-- This doesn't bother me though, I just laugh to myself and move on. Not on private property of course
Tricks I can do (comfortably): Reverts(BS and FS), Roll off curbs, Shuvits(stationary), Manuals(kinda)
nice
Nice
That's some great progress!
i hate this skate phase im in, i got no one to skate with so im barley on the board 😭
this is the worst part of skating
might need to just stick in some headphones and focus on your tricks
good part about skating alone is you aren’t trying to impress anybody
Skating alone is my happy place
i think i impressed some little kid who walked by with his parents. he said “he skateboardin’”
i know this is kind of a weird place to ask but i had a question about irl skating, i’m trying to find a place to buy a single shoe since i don’t really skate switch ever and only my left shoe is completely destroyed, right shoe practically still brand new
i’ve actually thought of this before, more of a shower thought than a skating thought. might be able to go to a shoe store and see if you can buy a shoe
on second thought, probably better to get a new pair considering one shoe is gonna feel different than the other. might make walking awkward
truuuue i didn’t think about that
other shoe is broken in for years
There’s a skate shoe brand called Cariuma that sell single shoes, I have no idea about their quality tho
Does anyone have tips for doing an ollie while moving? I'm struggling massively to get it off the ground, and when I do I fall off the board
I wonder if there's a place a goofy rider and a regular stance rider that are the same shoe size can link up and go in on a pair of shoes together to replace the front foot shoe.
lol that sounds like a brilliant idea for a website
People proficient at switch skating gonna make a massive profit
i know you can buy singles online at cariuma
damn you beat me to it
I'm thinking you put in your size and shoe styles/colors you'd be fine to receive. Then the app "matches" you with whoever had a size and style you picked out.
From there with your matches, ask which one you want to "go in on". Then the app (acting as the l third party/middle man situation) buys the complete pair and individually packages it to the individuals.
The app/company would get a small fee to handle the buying and shipping out. Outside of just matching, having the business run like this would also protect the other skater of being scammed out of a shoe and someone abusing good faith to get a new pair half off.
The only question is would that fee be enough to cover the costs of running without it being too high that just getting a new pair would be the better deal overall.
But this could even work for people outside of skating for whatever reason they need a specific shoe. I remember seeing on Instagram an amputee shares pairs with an opposite leg amputee.
Now if someone sees this and decides to pursue it have at it. I don't have the time or energy to set something like this up lol
What would you guys recommend, Nyjah free 2 or cariuma slip-on skate pro? I have fat feet, so take that in mind haha
if you’re really true to size the nyjahs will be good
but it is all mesh and rubber
I'm using sb shanes right now, and I bought 9.5 when I'm really 8.5/9, and at the beggining they were hurting, so that tells you everything haha
So in the case of the Shanes, I wouldn't be able to buy 8.5 at all, but I can't be skating with a space of the shoe on the tip with nothing in it
they look kinda narrow on the photos
imagine all that toe room
So Nyjahs are less narrow in theory?
Yeah they look like it
do you exclusively like nike sb for skate shoes?
Hmm I have been really comfortable with sb yeah, but I'm thinking about the cariumas that I said before
But they look kinda narrow too, similar to the shanes
Nyjahs also are at 45% sale now in nikes website, so that's a plus lol
yeah, and with slip on shoes they’re kind of tight
i’ve had the vans slip ons, and they were pretty tight regardless of what you did to them
i replaced the insoles in them and they’re a lot better now though
Thing is, the Shanes were really hurting me at the beggining, but then when it stopped hurting, it has been my best skating shoe, even though it was longer than my actual size
are your feet wider towards your toe?
Hmm interesting
Yeah man, I'm like a freaking hobbit lmfao
might wanna look at something like the nike force 58. bit of a wider toe (kind of resembles a dunk or jordan 1)
It's hard for me man, I don't like big shoes like those, but I guess I'll have to try them or something
I also heard of ppl that put the shoes in the microwave for a few seconds right after buying it, so I was thinking about that too
the force 58s are pretty small considering they’re supposed to be inspired by the dunk
True but still not my stile, maybe I'll give them a try anyway
I'm still wondering about the Nyjahs though, because they look like they are in the middle, not narrow but not big either
i have a pair of them, and apart from the weird vulc-cupsole mix they used and mediocre nike insole they’re not too terrible
i’m just used to vans popcush lol
could look at vans too. half cabs are pretty good considering they’re a little wider than most vans
I never liked vans, but mainly bc it was so freaking mainstream when I was growing up that it made me despise the brand lol
i don’t blame you they’re still a bit too mainstream
look at the floor and it’s a sea of old skools
haha yeah
Btw, how about the Ishods? they also look a little big but the design is dope
Hmm I'm between Nyjahs and Ishods now haha
sorry to respond so late, but I posted the vid in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips , i had to turn the qaulity down cuz I dont have discord nitro, I made sure not to skate on cracks and the floor was clear, im at a park rn
Hm... How loose are your trucks? It seems to make that sound as you step back on the board after pushing. I wonder if you loosened it a little too much so there some play room that's being pushed down when you put weight on it
wait yeah I just realized it only does that when i put my weight on one side
i put another vid in #irl-skate-videos-and-clips
I'm pretty certain your trucks are too loose. Tighten them by quarter turns and check each time and listen for the clicking
If the board feels like you need it looser after that then you need softer bushings
Send a pick of your trucks showing the bushings and kingpin if you can
i dont have my tool with me cause i forgot it, i will make sure too next time I come here, thanks for all the help so far man :)
i want nyjahs so bad
the good thing about them is the laces are like covered so if you do heel flips a lot then its better
they looks so good too
Well now it's the right time, 44% off in nike's website

no in candad its on sale too
Ah nice then
ngl might but them
i wanted to get them for my birthday but like on sale ykyk
they fit true to size?
yeah, my gf is probably gonna get them for me for my birthday, but that's in a month so I'm having doubts lol
got no idea, I always tend to buy a little bigger than my size, but that's bc my feet are too fcking fat lmao
im buying them i need it
Hit me up whenever you try them please
I need opinions
does any one have any tips on how to get over the mental block of committing to ramps and landing tricks, i have this constant fear of breaking something or just having a great fall and hurting myself even if its a roll in ramp
I mean I don’t have tips but got advice, no matter how fearful you get of breaking something or even hurting yourself just full on commit, the more you commit the faster you’ll get the trick you’re aiming for. Just keep going man you’ll get it
Constantly. I can't afford getting hurt again.
Spend some time learning how to fall properly so muscle memory kicks in to protect you rather than letting your body do whatever, that takes out a chunk of the risk.
Other than that, keep riding till you are comfortable as you can be just riding around. Get comfortable riding with one foot (by not putting your pushing foot back on the board), get comfortable riding and pushing switch.
Get comfortable doing hippy jumps while riding around. Then get comfortable doing a hippy jump 180 (you jump up and rotate while the board stays on the ground under you).
This will help your balance greatly and you'll stick to your board better even if you feel like you're going to fall. More confidence on board will help you branch out to tricks and drop-ins (which is such a great feeling)
How long has it taken you all to get fully comfortable with cruising around?
I've been learning to skate again lately, and I feel a lot of my time has been spent learning foot placements, shifting my weight around, and balancing on my board.
Lmao i broke my wrist
it took me about a month, but im young and got school so I cant really spend to much time on it, id say just take your time, its better to practice at your own pace, but hey, thats just me.
just learned that if you are ever skating a painted curb, the paint will come off and stick to your clothes.
Bro
My board went in a storm drain
But I’m so happy because it was one big enough for me to poke my head in
So I lay down and put my right arm in and I see it
And I was able to get it no problem
And it all happened because of a goddamn pebble
It got under my wheel, made me kick my board straight back and there just so happened to be a drain there
But goddamn getting that thing back felt so good
Moral of the story is be careful lads
Hi there
I’m interested in either skateboarding or long boarding but idk where’s the best place to find one
Anything under $100
Only took me a week
I’m still new but already very comfortable with it
It mainly depend on what you'll do with that skate. Even for longboard there's different catégory. You'll mostly find cruiser and complete under 100$. I suggest going to decathlon, you'll find good beginner board.
And I er on the side of caution with a board that costs anything less
All vote for the eradication of all pebbles say yay if not say yay
I do on my cruiser build. 59mm wheels and quarter inch risers. I have to really try to get wheel bite. I don't on my street build, though, since I just have 52s on that one.
got my first ollie today :D
Nicee
Guys cuold someone explain to me hot to do a big flip?
master big spins and master tre flips
you do a reaaaaallly big spin
Theres also the lazy way. If you can do a backside flip, try doing a varial flip 180
I may or may not have just had my second or third hall of meat moment, also on a hillbomb. both of my hands are bleeding and I hit my shoulder pretty hard, and put a hole in my jeans near the knee. I should probably stop doing hillbombs given my painful past in it. week 7 is going great tho, starting to get moving ollies, and can do them well. Ill keep the updates coming.
Oh also, i need some help. my ollies almost always make me turn to the right. is this because of my shoulders or something else? I ride goofy.
I was in San Francisco a few days ago for the first time and I realized how close EMB, Hubba Hideout, and the Pier 7 Manny pads all were to each other
That place was sure a street skating paradise in the 90s
anyone else only able to land kickflips with 1 foot still?
Could be shoulders or back foot placement I would say, I have a friend who has the same problem and he pops with the back foot way off in one side instead of in the middle of the tail
Ill be sure to experiment with that, Thanks for the input! 🙂
Let me know how it goes!
I can never balance when I try a moving ollie, could shoulders help out?
You mean it turns to one side or you just fall when landing due to balance?
Falling off because balance
Like I'm getting air and leveling the board out but when I land the board goes flying
Hmm shoulders could be a factor yes, try point them to the front just like your feet
Instead of pointing them to the direction you are going to
I’m spanish so maybe I didn’t explain it right, let me know haha
I get what you're saying
I'll try that next time I'm out because thinking about it, my body is twisted when ollieing
And if the board goes flying to the front, yo might be falling with all the weight in the back foot
Yeah if it is twisted it will maybe cause that, but maybe it’s something else
I'll try not twisting and see if it helps. If not then I can tick it off the list and try something else
Thanks for the tips :)
Does anyone here know about the red top ply curse?
I’m not superstitious but I’m a little-stitious?
Are the chicago sb dunks worth it? It aint suede so idk if they good
(I can get em cheap 2nd hand unused cuz i aint paying 500 for em)
if they’re canvas they’ll probably blow out in a few sessions unless the toe has some suede or leather
I'm trying to remember what Professor Schmidt said, but there is an episode of the The Nine Club where he's interviewed and I remember him talking about it. I don't remember what he said though. But vaguely remember him saying something about dyes affecting the wood but not actually
Red dye in general seems to be awful for everything. Even tattoos it’s the most troublesome color for irritating your skin. 😂
It’s also one of the few food dyes folks are allergic to. FD&C Red
That's true! Never really thought about this.
nvm i bought them
I've heard really good things about them but never used them myself.
ive heard good things about them but ive always have thunder trucks
Due to a "sport" im competing in, and going to state for, my parents wont let me skate for 3 weeks... internal suffering
RIP💀
Ay I wanna snap my deck but I don't wanna do it by doing it myself I wanna break it doing sum what's da best way to
And I wanna snap it bc it's getting small gir me
Well do a fs lipslide, those are board breakers
hey guys, I've managed to get ollie down pretty consistent and I've started to learn how to shuv it, I've landed a couple but not consistently. I've come to ask if anyone has any tips about learning ollie while moving forward cause I'm really struggling with that
is grip gum gonna damage my grip tape?
or is muddy wheels gonna damage my bearings?
also i cant rlly ollie even how do i know if my board still has a pop?
- No
- Highly likely because you don't want dirt and water in your bearings
- Then you won't really notice a difference and it's not something I'd expect a beginner to be aware of so just keep riding it till it's busted.
Don't ride in the mud
it wasnt like i rode through mud i trained some of my tricks on grass where it was muddy
yea a prebuilt is just a skateboard someone else has built for you
yeye my skateboard is a cheat prebuilt I found in a store that I replaced the trucks and bearings on lmao
I'm not sure I'm sure you'll find some help on youtube or someone else who's been skating a bit longer can tell you
on the trucks?
as long as the bearings are in it you should just be able to put the wheels on and screw the bolt back on
just dont over tighten it
https://youtu.be/9TTqG5U8bcI <for cleaning bearings
Cleaning your bearing is essential for fast long-lasting bearings. It'll save you money in the long run and is kind of fun to do anyway. We'll give you step-by-step instructions on how to clean your skateboard bearings and give you a few tips for making it a smooth and easy process.
Check out our Bearing Lube and Cleaning Kits at Tactics: https...
If i cant take them off how do i clean em
you can’t really clean them if you can’t take them off
are you having trouble with taking the bearings off?
sometimes bearings can be a real pain. very stubborn
especially on cored wheels
pain in the ass with ricta chrome clouds
i remember that i used to try to do ollies over cracks on the pavement to help myself with ollies while moving, it was slow, but i felt the progress, after that i tried to ollie over bumps while trying to grab a little bit more speed (if i felt comfortable with it)
then i started to ollie over plastic bottles, cans, skates and more stuff, brings good memories. Don't feel afraid to try new stuff, after all we all learn differently, happy skating and good luck
Ohh also something i remember noticing back then is that while doing ollie moving i used to lean my body forward as with the skate, that was at that moment, i think my ollie changed a lot through years
So i cleaned my bearings with hand sanatizer and now its making a hissing noise
Did you put any bearing lubricant/cream in them? Hand sanitizer might clean them, but it will also dry them out. You'll need something like bones speed cream, sewing machine oil, or my personal favorite, a tube of white lithium grease from the hardware store. That stuff lasts forever
will it still work if i do it now
anybody know any good uk deck brands?
Yep, no worries
Got my first 5 stair today to celebrate my 10 month skateboarding🎉
If you're starting just buy a complete for 110$ doesnt matter which brand.
Congrats mate!! Nice
Does anyone have any tips for beginners (never used a skateboard but have always wanted to)
Thanks chief
Try to get comfortable on your board, just ride it to everywhere. After about a week or 2 just try to go to the skatepark and ride around, try to get comfortable with shifting your weight. After thst you can go your own way. And watch alot of youtube tutorials to help.
Awesome, thank you
No worries
PSA: WEAR A HELMET!!!
Was out today. Been skating like 2 months. Going down a reasonably steep parking lot. Do it all the time though, so quite familiar with it. Trucks must have loosened. Speed wobbles were pretty bad. Went down once and had to hop off because it was too fast. No fall though. Should’ve quit then. Do it again. Get to a certain point and just can’t stay on. Fall off going downhill and quite fast. Land on my left shoulder and side. Head smacks the ground. Literally would’ve killed me or given me permanent damage. Wear a helmet people ESPECIALLY if you’re a beginner.
Id rather come out with my life and a skinned shoulder than die
I look like an idiot with my bike helmet on a skateboard
But that bike helmet saved my fuckin life
As good as this advice is, unfortunately I've seen for many, that they have to have a scary fall before deciding to put a brain bucket on.
Also, you should know that a bike helmet does not have the same safety ratings that a skate or multi-sport helmet have. In fact many helmets you can find from stores won't have the proper ASTM F1492 rating on them for falls. One with the proper rating for skating will be able to take multiple small/minor hits. A bike helmet is typically rated for one hit and it's done, need to get a new one.
Yeah I know
This is a goddamn good bike helmet because it’s taken some big hits and remained stable
But I’ll definitely get a skate helmet soon
Especially since the bike helmet only covers the top and I actually got a scrape on the side of my head
Thanks for that
I’ll make sure to get one certified to the proper standards
Don’t want to take chances
Poor little bike helmet has served me well
Time for an upgrade
I really like the fit on Triple 8 skate helmets.
I need to get back into skating I haven’t touched my deck in like 5 months and the parks around me are ass
same here, feels like i haven’t skated in ages because the weather has been so bad
Yeah weather hasn’t been the best here but that’s not why I stopped skating tbf like I lost my friends that I skated w and just didn’t have the urge to skate for the time after that
fr I always pull up to the skatepark and it starts raining after like 2 secs
lol yeah autumn sucks. just wish i started skating again sooner in the summer just so i’d actually have somewhere dry and warm to go skate
is it normal for my board to tilt left or right when on stationary? or is it my balance? its hard for me to practice my ollies
tighten your trucks a little bit
its already tight to the max, i think its my bushings
the bottom washer is missing too lol
Might be the bushings yep
Is this a real hobby
They defy the laws of physics therefore can’t exist how do you think it sticks to skaters feet? Think about it they aren’t real

Hey
Jesse,we have to skate Jesse!!!
Lol
can anyone help with my ollies #irl-skate-videos-and-clips
Yo
I might be able to help
I think I'm landing more consistent pop shuvits. I'm getting the board up and I'm landing on them about half the time which is definitely an improvement. I just need to start doing it rolling and it'll be perfect. Might send a video if I'm able to get one next time I go skating
does anyone have any advice for starting out skateboarding? my main problem is that i cant commit to even rolling on it. i know it sounds stupid but that wood board with wheels be scary
I had a friend that was terrified to try it out, so I took them to a tennis court that was fenced in so they could hold on to the fence and pull themselves around, little by little they stopped grabbing on to the fence as they got used to it.
Big tip is to keep your weight on your front foot just behind where the bolts are. That will help keep you stable as you move.
And if you're really scared, nothing wrong with trying to ride it on your knees a little you get a sense of what it feels like to ride around and how it balances.
On top of that get you some pads and safety equipment and practice falling with the pads on. You'll see that you barely feel it if you drop to your knees and that's a big confidence boost knowing that it won't hurt much if you fall!
There's no shame in going slow and being scared
put the board in some grass or something similar so if you fall then it wont hurt too bad, get started by just balancing on the board and getting used to the feel of it, once you feel comfortable, try to start rolling a bit, like skyfi said, try holding on to something and just go slow, it takes a while to get used to riding, its okay if you are just crusing around for a month, you want to get used to just cruising, dont worry about tricks until you feel comfortable with cruising. also figure out which foot will be the one pushing
I just bought griptape for the first time, it was a shake junt (mob), is it supposed to be this gripy? Like coarse grit sandpaper, idk might just be me.
It is sandpaper, that's what griptape is
So me, my brother, and my little sister all got boards for Christmas last year. My sister says she made a trick called electric tennis I kid you not 😂 at least that's what she calls it. She puts her feet on the nose and tail and make each side go up then down kinda fast.
Does anybody know if sb dunks and dunks fit the same? I want to get a pair of SB's but idk the sizing
They should fit true to size if I’m not mistaken
Progress update: I can Ollie over a stick!
👌
Ive landed my first pop shuv it today
Nice! Such a great feeling
Can anyone give me some tips with levelling out my ollies? I can slide my foot up I’m just unable to push forward to level it out ig always ends up in a rocket position
Make sure you lift your back foot way up immediately after you pop so the tail has room to rise up. Both your feet should be at the same level vertically. It also helps to think about sliding your front foot "forward" rather than straight up.
Anyone know how i can practice skating in terrible weather? Ive had my skateboard for 2 years and everytime i always get serious about practicing again its nearly always in the winter when it rains alot
somewhere indoors like an indoor skate park or a garage
how do you guys deal with skating by yourself? lost my only skater friend and trying to find encouragement to skate for myself
Does someone have the saiz totem pole deck cause I wanna know what truck size is good for that board
Im usually by myself anyways so i just put some music on and do my thing. It is more fun with friends but there is also something to just enjoying the sidewalk to yourself zooming around
yo does someone know how to front shuv
cuz im able to shuv the board behind me but not land it
Are Powell decks good? Thinking about getting one but they are only $50 compared to the usual $60. Are they good and durable like a Zero or Antihero?
Would like to know this too lol I have Pop Shuvs on lock but front shuvs are so hard to land for some reason
so im looking for my first skateboard rn.. so some basic infos bout me: im 180cm tall and wear size 12, im a beginner like i can drive but cant do tricks n stuff, is this board fine for me? https://www.skatedeluxe.com/de/skatedeluxe-rose-8-5-komplettboard-black_p161121?eav=234&cPath=83
I started with an 8.5 so yea its good
https://www.skatedeluxe.com/de/toy-machine-moon-man-8-5-komplettboard-brown_p149234?eav=234&cPath=83 there is not much diffrence exept for the looks right?
or worth the "upgrade"
the wheels are different
what will change?
the feel you get
such as some wheels which are softer are better for rough roads while harder wheels are better for skateparks and stuff
i cant help that much since i dont speak the language that is on the website but
translate it haha
hm i kinda wanna do 50/50 ig
i think the 50$ is not really worth it
If you need help with a setup feel free to message me
I will
Anybody wear size 11 shoes in US mens?
yea
but i'm in the uk haha
I wear 12 lol
What size board
8.5
I might go up to 8.5 too. I got a 8.38 rn
Nice
im rockin 9.13 with size 12 feels great
what is the best deck for me? Ive been skating for a round a month i know how to drop in and do ollie front 180 and back 180 im looking for a deck that will help me learn new tricks and wont chip easily and be able to skate at parks
try any brand tbh
Avoid girl then. They chip sooooo fast. Real boards break easy too. But tbh boards are all inconsistant. I had a mike mo girl board that lasted a year (which is a lot for girl) id say just work your way around the brands
are krooked decks good?
Dont know ive never had one
I wear a size 13 shoe and use 8.25 - 8.5 boards. I currently have a 8.25 santa cruz deck. Anything over 8.75 feels too big for me to do flip tricks on. It's really up to you though what feels comfortable though. Some people like wider boards for more landing room, while some like narrower ones for faster flicks.
Ive never broken a board, but Baker is a good brand if you really want a specific brand
Those weird named board brands at Zumiez are cheap though like Superior
anything below 8.5 feels like a toothpick for me
im not very good at skating but it was funny trying to kickflip my mates 7.75 and almost doing a triple
im happy where i am with my 9.13 tho
mostly
i need to reget used to grinding on coping
trucks way wider so the angles way higher
I’m wondering is there a part of this server I’m allowed to ask for help? With skating
Right here works
yo, is someone skating in Austria (Niederösterreich)?
yo so I’m getting an FA board for Christmas but the problem is I’ve already got it. Has anyone here skated FA boards and would mind telling me their opinions or personal experience
hi
Sup
I have a size 13 shoe and I want to get into skateboarding but every time I get on one I fall. Is there any help I could get on getting around on a skateboard?
And what would be the best skateboard size for me
Falling off isn't a shoe size issue. You need to keep trying till you can learn how to balance and ride
I know I was just pointing that out for the best skateboard size
Make sure to know how to stand on your skateboard comfortable and correctly! Do you know your stance? Do you fall while standing still or while pushing?
Standing
I don’t have a Skateboard myself but that’s why I’m trying to get help finding a good skateboard size
i once tried skateboarding but my skateboard was cheap and moved very poorly and then i got a long board but i was always busy with classes or just gaming and forgot about and he ended up selling both of them
soo
it wasnt too worth it
but when i grow a bit more and make some money i might get a skateboard from amazon since there is no skate shop in saudi
I recommend going to your local skate shop for advise, that's what I did and they are super happy to help you!
Thanks!
Skateboard size doesnt matter tbf. Smaller boards are easier to do flip tricks but are harder to Land on because they’re smaller in width. Bigger boards such as 8.25’s+ are however easier to Land on because of the space you Are landing on but are harder to do flip tricks. I’d recommend an 8.25.
some one got an opinion on oj mini super juice?
The only people who care are people who worry too much about looking a certain way. But here ya go
https://youtu.be/5_ixahXS5Lw
As you can probably tell from this video, I'm a little too old to care about things like how you pick up your board. This is just my opinion though and I know a lot of (especially younger) skaters like to perpetuate the negative stereotypes of mall grabbing.
I'm curious about what your reasons for disliking mall grabs are. Do you have any valid...
🤝
Why not check the Braille Skateboard completes? They’re relatively not too expensive if saving money is your aim. Other than that I would much rather either go to a local skateshop and build a custom one or just get a decent known brand that won’t feel like cardboard in a few days of use. Will save you money in the long run. Just saying.
reason is im in saudi and i dont know if you have to change currency in check since i see "oh i can buy this let me see" and it comes out way more then the usa price since the amount of gas saudi has or inflation idk saudis currency is strong
Figured it was something like that. What about a local skate shop?
non exist in saudi that i know of
maybe in riyad but definitely not in jubail but i will check
If not just search for known brands on Amazon.
Just saw the price difference is quite big. Is about 300 SAR for the cheapest Braille complete.
yeah so i have no option but amazon and i fount this one which iks the jackpot of these skateboards on amazon

Why u spaming mongo in every channel
its no mongo
Still

Can anyone fs 5050
Progress Update (LONG AWAITED):
I'm back, having been away from skating for a week or so, and not posting for much longer. I haven't been skating as much recently, but I plan to do so more starting this week. In terms of tricks, a haven't learned any new tricks, but I've built up everything I have so far. Here is the list of tricks that I know, and how I may have improved upon them:
- Ollie: Much more comfortable with moving ollies, and I can even ollie off curbs as of today
- Reverts
- Caveman
- Rolling off Curbs
PS: Im still working on manuals, I'm having trouble finding the balance point, Tips would be great! - Generally being comfortable on the board
Side Rant: Today when I was skating I spoke with two people near my house, One of them thought that the old people that had yelled at me before were old hags which made me laugh, and another than complimented me on putting in the hours to get better. These small social interactions have motivated me to keep progressing daily more than I could have ever thought! All In all today was a fun, very long skate day!
That's awesome! Getting betterand getting support from others. Doesn't get better than that
Awesome
Big Q, has anyone here had an FA board? And would you mind telling me your experiences because I always see some videos have a positive experience while others have a negative experience so I would rather have someone else’s opinion that can personally speak to me about it
altimers boards are ass
good amount of concave but a big ass nose. was a covid "buy any deck i can find" purchase, never cared about buying another but it was an alright deck at best.
bless thank you 🫶
Has anyone skated adidas superstars
any tips for someone getting into skating?
Don't be too hard on yourself, go at your own pace, and have fun!
okay! thanks sm <33
Other than that, if you have a local skate shop, they are a gold mine for tips and answers.
If you fall once you'll fall again. if you fall don't land on your hands, Roll
I ate caca now I can’t move my elbow
I tried but the rock made me fly and all the force went to my elbow
i can’t decide on what trucks to get for an 8.38 deck
lot of people say 144 or 149
anybody got any recommendations?
149s
Be sure to wax your wheel wells so u don't get wheelbite
yeah that’s the one thing i’m worried about with an 8.38 if i used my old inde 144s
i was riding an 8.25 throughout the summer but i think it was a little small. 8.5 seems like a huge jump
could probably use ace 44s since the axle width on them are 8.35 so it’s pretty similar
I wanna get smooth wheels for my 8.25
I want to get ojs
But what do you recommend
i like the 86a ricta chrome clouds
I always skate Bones, can never go wrong with those even bones 100s
yo i have one question
so i got an 8 size deck
my shoe size is 41 (EU) and im 1.64 tall
what if the deck is too small for me im terrified
it just depends on how it might feel for you. some people love a smaller board like 8.0 and under
im terrified rn man
idk about small decks
smaller decks flip a little easier
there’s a positive
yea but what if my feet are too big
im a beginner man
your feet can’t be too big for the board
unless the deck is genuinely tiny
oh okay
but tbh i like thick decks man
like 8.25
i feel like it might be too small
i’m a 44 eu and i skate an 8.25. it wasn’t small but i would like a bigger deck like an 8.38
oh
pretty much just preference at the end of the day
oh okay
yeah i wouldn’t worry about it too much
thanks man
besides it’s your first skateboard you’ll love it
ty bro
np
what trucks did you get with the 8?
you could probably size up easily depending on the trucks
i got a complete skate so i dont rlly know
oh okay
ill prolly get a 8.25 next time
yeah see how you like the 8 first
okay
im getting it for christmas
nice
I already bought it and im opening it for christmas
which complete did you get?
ill send in dms
okay
I like completes for first boards. It's a nice and usually affordable baseline for learning your preferences. You might love the size! You'll know in a couple weeks!
i had a custom setup when i first got back into skating
but money wasn’t really a problem
completes are great considering the cost for them
btw hey lanti im on a new account
how has your flowery real deck been treating you?
I absolutely love it. I wish I weren't in Canada, though. Tons of snow outside, and the nearest indoor park isn't really reachable for me. I bought a new board just so I can try out some carpet board tricks during the winter. 😄
This one: 😄
feel for you about the snow. been super icy on the paths near me
Back atcha! We got snow so early this year, and unlike previous years, it didn't go away for one last ride. I'm hoping to give the indoor place a try during my week off.
we rarely have snow like this, usually just some snow that doesn’t stick to the floor
Here's hoping the ice clears up for you!
same for you
I just properly started skating today, I've had a skateboard for years and have always given up, but now I really want to do it
Go for it
can someone tell me some high quality trucks for a skateboard?
I really like Independent XI. I've heard great things about Thunder but never tried them.
independent all the way
i might try aces on my new setup when i buy it though
Yeah, I've considered Aces, too, but Independents are just such a solid go-to.
can’t go wrong with them
Anybody have some tips for a new skater who's having trouble with figuring out how to push?
Yes I completely admit I can't stay on the board unless it isn't moving.
have you tried pushing the other way? goofy > regular or vice versa
honestly, it could just be that you haven’t developed the kind of balance you need on your front leg as well as the long stride for your back leg when pushing
Tried regular and goofy. Goofy felt really weird to me.
Think I might just try practicing more during the spring when everything isn't snowy here.
stick with regular if you feel most comfortable with it
Figured out skating isn't much my thing, like the tricks and stuff I just wanna ride it, so I got a longboard today, feels so much better and what I actually want, ik it's not skating but still
That's great keep doing you
I recommend putting your board on a thicker carpet or rug, or a folded up towel, and practicing just balancing on your front foot. You might want to tighten up your trucks a little bit, too, if you're finding the board wobbles too much.
Once you feel more solid with balancing, do the motions of pushing with your back foot without actually trying to push. That will get your brain and muscles used to the flow in balancing.
Are you rotating your front foot when you go to push?
Getting that foot pivot down is tricky but essential
it should be roughly perpendicular to the board when riding, and you should pivot to be parallel with the board when you go to push
Fully stacked it today
Idk where you got that from, but that's 100% skating, and anyone who says otherwise needs to learn some skateboard history
Yeh true, find it way more fun too anyway, I dream of doing those downhills 😂
Same! I can slide, but I live where it's super flat so not much I can do with that
😂 Ahah yeh, that would fully suck not having much slopy areas, luckily I have quite a few hills and stuff, there is this massive hill in my town that's super steep and everyone Jokes about going down it, and everyone who has gone down it, everyone knows about it
Oh nice, that sounds like a fun bomb! What kind of longboard did you get?
gotta remember skating in the 50s was essentially just pushing around
maybe a few flatground tricks but definitely no tre flips
We came from roller skates, clay wheels, milk crates, and surfers
Even with all of the cool street skating out there, the
"1976 World Professional Skateboard Championship" is one of my favorite videos. Amazing how creative it was before we even had standard boards shapes or even an Ollie yet
Platypus type board, 38" pretty flexy
@rustic bough actually drop through board
Nice!
OMG I landed my first kickflip! I was holding on to something though but I'll take it!
That's awesome
I landed my first heelfilp the next day at this rate I'll have my own video part
remember to keep practicing your kickflip too
don’t wanna forget it
When I get it more consistent one heelflip one kickflip every time I pickup my board
Does anyone else do carpetboard tricks while in the off-season? What kinds of tricks do you like to do?
I have a blank deck I had set up for that and it escalated into a balance trainer lol. I just wish I had gotten some of that soft grip for it instead of the sheet of grip I slapped down. Then I could use the deck barefoot and also so that I don't accidentally scratch up anything. But it's great and works as it should. I even got these things called tramp trucks i put on so I get the height and similar feel as a real setup. Only thing that's different is it doesn't roll or wobble/lean like real trucks
and what tricks do you do on a carpet ?
Shuv's, 180's, kickflips, ollies onto a homemade rail I did out of PVC pipe and wood. Anything that's fun and keeps me in shape while I deal with the majority of days being rainy
wait
you do kickflips on a carpet ?
how
when you skate on a carpet you juste keep the deck right ?
"I even got these things called tramp trucks I put on so I get the height and similar feel as a real setup. Only thing that's different is it doesn't roll or wobble/lean like real trucks"
Though I know it is possible to do with just a deck as I've seen people do it, but I think your foot position might be different than on a real setup.
Yeah, it's (sort of kind of) possible if it's a low pile carpet, though it's not quite the same movement. I just do shuvs and 180s and the like. Powerslides. Anything that doesn't require pop. It seems to help keep the muscles in shape enough that I won't die when the snow finally melts in April/May.
Though, omg, the static build up with the slides. 😁
My first board should arrive in a couple days
I used to skate before the pandemic but i had a very trash walmart type of board and never an actual proper board
Nice! What did you get?
Got a complete from zoo york
I heard they had flatter boards and I like them over the very concave ones
Nice! I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks 🙏
It's still in Germany tho so it still has a bit of a road until it arrives to me
meh
The graphic on the board can make the griptape look much sicker so that's what i'm waiting on before giving an opinion :))
But by it's own the griptape looks pretty cool. Don't know how it will hold up against dirt and getting dirty in general
Holy wheelbite🤣
Nom nom!
bro how can i ollie but can't shuvit good lord
Ollie is just jumping with the board. Shuvit requires rotating the board while jumping. There's a whole dimensional layer to it
Yeah it really messes with me
Just annoyed I keep seeing people saying shuvits are the easiest trick that you can learn it in a day and I got no idea what they're talking about lol
For me, nailing shuvits was mainly a commitment thing as I was scared to land on the board. Also took me a bit to realize I had to jump forward (actually sideways) to where the board was joining to be because the board actually lands a bit away on your front side rather than right under you where you started at
When I was starting out my first trick was a shuvit
Its easier because your feet still don't understand what they have to do when it comes to an ollie, but if you get on the grass and practice them enough youll get used to it
fair, Thanks for the encouragement!
You got it mayne
anyone in austin TX need a drone guy?
Anyone know of good shoes for skating that also have a wide toe box? Realizing now that all of my shoes squish my toes together... and the only stuff marketed to wide toe boxes are non-skating shoe brands
I think Emerica and New Balance might have stuff like that
Been thinking of copping a pair of New Balance shoes myself just to see how they feel
I'm interested as well.
https://www.amazon.it/dp/B08BN2CTNN?tag=mywebsit0c783-20&geniuslink=true I think these come in a wide fit but i'm not sure you'll have to look into it
And on a different website in case you don't use amazon
I actually wear Vans just because they have a slightly wider toe box and I'll go a half size up for a little more room.
These are apparently wide. Idk, I think I need to try some on in person. The list I saw these on also sad the Reynolds Vulc are wide and I have them and they don't seem that way

Half cabs?
No, standard sk8 hi or the reg low top
Half cabs are kinda expensive for me ngl
I'm going at the market tomorrow tho and there's lots of people that sell second hand shoes (Even though they look like they're new) and depending from where you get them they cheap af
And you can haggle with some of them
Get some half cabs with 20 bucks imagine
i have some slight wide feet problems and the only skate shoe that i can recommend is the vans rowan. i recommend trying them on because i was able to go down a full shoe size in them
vans are so random honestly. Some pairs felt really good on my feet (In general not just skating, i also do parkour here and there and certain vans shoes are really good) and other are just killing my feet
they either have wide toe boxes or are just narrow af
yeah sometimes you can just get weird clown shoe toes
The Navy Sk8 highs were a banger for me
Those shoes lasted me like 3-4 years
I wasn't skating then tho
i like the look of most vans shoes but i can never trust the sizing
I also have a pair of high vans that i bought and wore 2-3 times
They legit just sitting around in the house
I think i'll start using those when i go out and skate
my first “real” pair of skate shoes were half cabs
i had these regular vans old skools that i used
until i realised they weren’t actually skate shoes, just a regular version
vans rowan also have a half cab style toe which i like
That was a big confusion of mine when i was buying shoes a couple of years ago
Couldn't make the difference between the old-skools and the skate ones
fr
but the insole and the support in most of their shoes aren’t that great
it's really unfortunate that the sneakerhead community just straight up ruined dunks
they used to be cheap af now some of them cost a whole leg and an arm
for real man can’t get dunks anywhere
At some point i thought of buying reps
Thanks!
But i was like "Nah i'll most probably won't like them then hate myself for deciding to waste money on them"
They aren't particularly wide, but I highly recommend eS Accel Slim generally speaking. Though I put in fp insole because the stock insole under the forefoot and the sole are super thin
I mean in my country you can find them at 100 bucks depending on which website you look on
Of course the regular ones not special editions like the travis scott's
i love the look of eS shoes but i can never trust sizing all too much
I don't think I have particularly wide feet, but I've just been learning recently that our toes should have more space in shoes for our feet/toe bones to be spread out at the natural angle
10.5 was fine for me, as a 10.5-11.0
you always need a little bit of room for skate shoes so that your feet don’t suffer
I have some DC's that I had to go up to 11.0. Because 10.5 will feel fine but then bailing a couple of times on certain tricks, my toes jam into the end over and over again
skate shoe sizing is a pain
my front foot is slightly smaller than my back foot so i always have a little bit of extra room in the toe
Because they're all manufactured differently
One of the big reasons that i'm inclined to buy shoes physically and not online
For example i wear 8.5 and depending on the brand i can go to 9 or down to 7.5
We don't have a skate shop in my town
Wack asf
me neither, we’ve got a “repair shop” inside of an indoor skate park
we have a few skate shops in the city though
i could only wish we had a skate shop
i wouldn't have had to wait almost 2 weeks for my board to arrive
at 15? pass
don't got the budget either XD
I would work in a skateshop tho
Would be dope as hell
seems like such a great atmosphere
but the only reason why people go into the skate shop i frequently go to is because they put nike dunks in the window
attract all the sneakerheads
New policy for skate shops:
You must land a good trick to show you're a skater and not some sneakerhead that wants to buy them just to resell them
At least if they bought them and wore them
But they just hold them in the box and sell them like 8 months later because who tf pays 300-500 dollars for some dunks
well think about all the beginners who want some shoes but can’t really ollie
Idk they ask them skating questions or something
Same here. I've been mostly on the "barefoot" shoe thing for a while now. There's a pair of vans classic era that I pulled all the padding/arch in support out of to turn it into a more "barefoot style" shoe. Replaced it with a really thin foam flat insole. Board feel is incredible now and it's super comfy to use as a general sneaker. But landings will feel harder until you learn to land a bit softer
Interesting way to learn how to be lighter on your feet
You kinda don't have a choice that way 😅
Yeah it's either broken kneecaps or you get better
Nothing in between XD
the worst thing about skate shoes is when they GLUE the insole in
and you have to rip it out
“let’s make the worst insole ever, put it in our skate shoe, then glue it in with the weirdest glue placements to really ruin the inside of the shoe”
ABSOLUTELY. And some brands glue the insoles even on the normal shoes
vans got it right with the removable popcush insole
even osiris shoes have removable insoles (which is a great thing because their insoles are essentially paper)
Today was my 1st day of skating after not skating for like 3-4 years and it just hit me that i went out and skated with my pair of old skools XD
I got a pair of red old skools that i put black laces on and i didn't give much thought to it and just put them on
even though i have like 1 pair of sb's one of independents and one of sk8 highs
i'm absolutely braindead
I can't wear the popcush ones. The arch part is in the wrong spot and if I do my real size (half size down) then my toes are cramped with the extra padding
But they seem so comfy
a lot better than your average insole
incredibly chunky and they’re purple
they just don’t really work on the skate slip ons
I feel like skate slip ons shouldn't be a thing
