from my understanding of the timeline of skate:

In Skate 1, The Legend becomes Skater Of The Year and also wins the X-Games. Somewhere along that they get arrested for attempting to jump the dam.

Skate IT is where the earthquake happens to San Van and you play as someone completely different and travel the world.

Skate 2 starts off with The Legend getting released out of jail finally and makes a comeback in a city thats now owned by a corporation thats weirdly hell bent on outlawing skateboarding.

Skate 3 is where The Legend starts a board company and manages to hit it big time in Port Carverton

The reason that the city is run by a corporation (MongoCorp) is because they made a huge investment to help rebuild the city, in turn giving them more power over the local govt. Some dystopian stuff for sure

I think the main thing that kicked it off was that dawg had an emote that was using Dain's face in them. I think Dain was basically asking him to cease and desist or legal actions would be issued and that apparently patreon is 'selling mods'. Dawg's decided to keep his freedom of speech and said he'd remove his mods, patreon and discord instead.
