Yeah this just happened to me. Finished all 3 weeks of challenges and on my last task completed I went to the shop and didn’t see anything new in the shop for the event. So I just spent what I had on some ugly cosmetics. Then my game crashed, so I reloaded it and then it said I didn’t complete 1 of the challenges. So I went and completed it, and as soon as I did, now there’s a new item in the shop for the loud and fresh event called “Rovers Ripped Denim Vest” and now I don’t have the currency to get it. Dumb bug made me miss out on it even tho I completed all the challenges.

I wonder - do you have pop-ups disabled, as the login for consoles comes from a pop-up.

i never loved "dark catch" as a mechanic, i guess it's an elegant enough solution but most darkslides are kind of landed on after/as the board hits a ledge

I will say that grinds and bump outs could use some more work. For example, trying to hit a fs noseslide and bump out to switch looks janky because it plays an animation to swing your tail back to regular, regardless of how you spin. The old games lets you spin your shoulder to control the direction that you spun out of grinds or slides.

Slash grinds too. Smiths are tough in pools. The animations all look amazing though. Time will tell, I suppose.

It also is on older (like much older) IOS devices and also DS. I saw a DS copy in a local store the other day but I didn't pick it up. Game had no case or manual or anything, was just the cartridge, and I think it woulda been spendy so I didn't go for it. Plus I still have my copy on the Wii, despite the fact that I have no Wii to play it on but that doesn't really matter.

The graphics suck for that game but the gameplay is still nice and I remember really enjoying the game when I played it.

I think a lot of people do, it's just a shame how some people chose to go about it. Personally I like the game, but it does need to improve. Freeskating is fun, the soundtrack is great, etc. However, that doesn't save the fact that there is change needed. Pass items need to be cheaper (I'm mainly looking at you SVB), challenges need to have way more, and a better rotation, community parks need a huge overhall, and more.

They should add competitive turn based multiplayer and Create-a-park and the game will skyrocket.
Unfortunately we probably see those after GTA6 gets released so after that there is no point (imo)

Loads of people have waited since the playtests, gave feedback on what we wanted, and were everytime told "we hear you" and " we want to build the game YOU want"
What we got was a dead map, FOMO BS, more pushbacks, trailers of stuff that should have been in the game since the start.
At some point people do not take the studio or the game seriously anymore

The studio / publisher has managed to shoot themselves in the foot quite often with this game, many many weird choices made by them. And at a turnaround pace that is almost unacceptable for a live service game. Ultimately though it's hard to argue that the game has gotten better than it was on release, and likely will continue to get better.

It's going to be a harder sell to get people back into it now, but if they manage to add the things people want down the line (private servers, player created parks / challenges) I think people will slowly come back. Ultimately people just want a good skateboarding game. For some people it isn't good enough yet to be worth giving attention, but it's never too late. Unless they close down entirely of course.

What irks me even more is that when they finally decide to add brands to the pass, they are also doing this exclusive grom stuff with it. I want to support a pass with brands, because it's what people have wanted. but I also don't want to support a pass with exclusive access to map areas, because that's a terrible move by them.

I get what you're sayin and yeah, nobody’s disputing that it was marketed as unfinished.

The issue isn’t that features are arriving “late” or that things are missing. The real tension is this:

When a game is in Early Access but already has a fully working shop, season passes, and monetization systems running smoothly, it changes expectations. Because now it doesn’t feel like shared development risk anymore it feels like the revenue systems are finished while the core experience and promises made still arnt.

Early Access shifts risk to players. We pay early, accept instability, and support development. But once monetization becomes polished and consistent, it’s fair for players to expect stability and clearer priorities in return.

So yeah things being on the roadmap is fine. Weird decisions elsewhere are a separate issue. But people questioning the balance between “unfinished game” and “fully operational cash systems” isn’t unreasonable eitherr

I think maybe you're overrating the completeness of the monetization system. Evidence for that is the fact that they're overhauling the shop next week, and the layoffs.

Now my personal theory (and nothing more then that) is that this game was in development for too long and it was time to start making some money, or it would never see the light of day. So they did what they had to do: Rush in some challenges, make a working shop and launch in early access too soon. Should they have waited another 6 months and flesh the basics out more? probably, but maybe there was no financial room for that.

That doesnt change the fact though, that it is kinda weird and useless to keep complaining that stuff we're getting now should've been here six months ago. Maybe it should've been here exactly today, but was the game supposed to launch today.

If you're spending money in early access, then you're accepting that risk. It doesn't really change the expectations of what's delivered, it's just additional information so that you can decide if you think spending money is worth it.

I think most games that release in early access either cost a bit of money or have some way to generate revenue. That's not really a shocking or surprising thing in my opnion, that's just kinda the point of early access. Gauge interest, fund the development of the rest of the game etc. I also think a 'functional shop' is so much easier to develop than anything else in the game. So having one isn't really that 'out there' to me

But accepting risk doesn’t mean people stop having expectations, it just changes them a bit. When monetization is already live and expanding, players are naturally going to look at how balanced the priorities feel.

A shop might be easier to build then core gameplay systems, sure. But that’s also why it stands out. If the revenue systems feel polished while the core parts of the game still feel rough, it creates a perception issue.

Early Access explains why things aren’t finished. It just doesn’t fully protect the game from criticism about where the focus seems to be.
