Social media bubbles are to blame too - these people probably see skating all over their social media every day so they assume its big. But back in like 2002 you didn’t need to be in a bubble, even your grandparents were seeing skateboarding every day on TV ads, movies etc. Even the random guy at the bus stop asking you for change knew who Tony Hawk was.
Skateboarding was about as popular back then as fried chicken is today.

The props are fun to use, me and a mate set up a table with a couch under a rainbow rail, and a ramp either side, took turns grinding it, and took turns laying on the couch as the other went over on the rail, pretty fun cuzhappy

EA Skate Season 3 feels strong because the core skating keeps improving. The physics are tighter, new tricks add depth, and sessions flow more naturally — and in a skate game, feel is everything.
Even the new map paywall works better than expected. It positions the map as a premium, curated space rather than filler, while the base experience continues to evolve. As long as the core gameplay keeps getting better, paid content feels like an expansion — not a barrier.

The whole media campaign before, during, and even after playtesting kept talking about free to play, nothing locked away, and not being pay to win which set an expectation. If they had just launched paid DLC maps from the start and been upfront about it, I honestly don’t think there would be this kind of uproar. Other skate games have had paid DLC maps and nobody really cared, you either bought it or you didn't. The content isnt the problem, it's the whole story we were sold at the beginning.

In my opinion, Skate. is better than Skate 3. Sure, it still lacks tricks like darkslides, but the feeling is the same and even better. San Van is an infinitely better map than Skate 3's. When we think of Skate 3's map, we always only talk about the ultra mega park; the rest of the map had long stretches of absolute emptiness with nothing to explore. What angered me and the other players the most was the broken promise that there would be no paywall, but I genuinely understand if there was a DLC map.

It's just a shame, I liked this game a lot, and I still like it. But the repeating challenges everyday to raise rep, the whole grom thing, the poor (for the most part, since some clothing/board stuff are actually good) outfits/gear, the many bugs/glitches, the tickets not rolling over, etc. Makes the game stale and unplayable.

In my experience, a last minute scheme for extra cash tends to be only and exactly that, and never turns out to be the life support that rescues a game and turns it successful.

My personal enjoyment of all the skate games was to have something chill to free skate with while I chill on the couch with some podcast on and so far skate still delivers on that

Session has never clicked for me. It always ran like trash, with terrible ghosting. Ragdoll is way too easily triggered and crusing around felt like a chore. I do prefer sessions control scheme though. I did prefer SkaterXL over session just because it ran better, but it was just very simplistic in comparison. Honestly I'm just a sucker or high quality animations, so I ended up going with Riders Republic for my skating needs, until Skate. dropped.

Might be time to go back to RR

I am not a fan of f2p but I get it. I appreciated the fact that only cosmetics would be paywalled. I would have been fine from the jump had they made maps paywalled and made cosmetics free and customizable. But this game is quickly becoming paywalled for everything. Those games are insufferable. They are “free to play” games that are essentially free to download. If you want anything beyond the barebones game, you’re forced to pay out the donkey for the real game.

Unfortunately, no matter the explanation, I feel that the whole grom thing could be the final nail in the coffin. Currently, there are roughly 1300 players on steam. I know that isn't the full player base. But, that isn't enough to sustain a live service game. Now, add in the paid early access to the island, then 24 hour pass, I feel that skate players will turn on the game and company. I feel it's a missed opportunity to bring back the players that have been lost. There were thousands of people begging for the island back. Now all they see is it's back but there is money involved. I know this has zero effect on the outcome of anything. Just wanted to express my outlook on it. A missed opportunity to get players back in their boards rather than getting more players to hang theirs up.
