I mean the Switch 2** joycon is publicly listed as supporting 360 degree motion on its joysticks, which is the only fundamental need right? It doesn't have to feel premium as long as everything technically works. Switch has never been marketed as the most premium console tech. As a Switch owner, I just take what I can get on that system 😂. If I can play skate on a better system, I obviously will, but if I could not and my Switch 2 were all I had... I think I'd play

Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s exactly the kind of game that I would want on my switch 2. Because of the character of the console and just be able to pick up and play everywhere. But as I sit here comparing the joycons and my seriesX controller…I just think it will be aweful.

But who knows, I’d love to be proven wrong.

I mean awful is a strong word and very subjective (for you I'm sure the word is fair and accurate). I'd agree it will feel worse... But I would not expect it to feel substantially worse than the step down in how a shooting game feels on a Switch, and even with the original joycons, which were much worse, Fortnite did juuuuuuuuuust peachy on Switch. Some people would feel it was awful, but others would probably think it was amazing, especially if they had no basis for comparison.

I think the vast majority of people who would stick with the game on PS4 e.g. would happily stick with it on Switch 2 as well if they had no better option. (With a larger per-system playerbase, I'd think this could justify it.)

Idk. The joycons just feel so flimsy and I already had them replaced (under warranty) once. (That wasn’t a mechnical issue, they were just worn out through the rubber after two months, but still says something about the quality).

I mean the same arguments you're making are exactly why a large portion of gamers won't touch shooting games on a console. For them, in comparison with a mouse, it feels positively awful. But there's still a huge market of people who have different expectations and standards and needs.

I'd also point out that the step down from mice to joysticks in shooting games (especially before modern aim assist solutions) was considerably worse than the step down from DualShock 4 to Joycon 2 (in terms of gameplay precision, not personal enjoyment), but it didn't stop a ton of people from playing and enjoying games that way.

Oh yeah I’m one of those people For me it doesn’t matter because I suck at shooters with any controls. But I play the solo campaign of some of them on my Xbox. Very casually.

It’s not as much the precision I’m worried about though, I’m sure that will be fine enough. But the experience...just how it feels. They’re so mushy or what is the word I’m looking for…idk And even more the durability. I just can’t imagine these things to last through 100s of kickflips. For some reason the skate series has always felt more demanding on controllers than other games but that might be just in my head.

Yeah for sure. Hey I'm not saying it'll be as good, I'm just saying there's a market of people who won't call it awful that could in theory justify the expansion.
-# I use a DualSense Edge on PC. You would have to pay me to play on my Switch 2. 😅 But I can still see enough people loving it to pay for it. For me the Switch controller feel relegates it to an exclusives-only system, but a lot of people who don't have two systems and don't even know what an Edge feels like - especially dedicated Nintendo players of which there are many - would not have much basis for comparison to conclude that their joysticks felt "mushier" than they would want a joystick to feel, given choice.

For me personally, switch 2 pro controller is leaps and bounds ahead of the Ps5 dual sense. But I do agree the joycons on the switch 2, are mushy and loose..... that said.... add some savage raven grips and it does feel a fair bit better.... that said, I know plenly of people who play on PC, with the switfch 2 pro controller, because its leaps and bounds better than anything else. Which it is.

Skate, portable...... would sell itself.... I can't tell you how many times, I've killed 15, 20 minutes just skating around..... that siad, when you have to sit down in front of a T.V or PC........ it dilutes that time.... if it was portable... it adds up. even with "mushy' controls. \

You don't need one. I think the default controls are fine. Especially with all the options Skate currently has in regards to pressure sensitivity in regards to flick controls. I honestly don't see it being an issue.

My priorities in Skate are very low. Today I skated for 3 hours. I setup a few 'drop' items, in rolling waves, and a large group amassed just to jam out. A few tables, around the 'holy grail rail, in rolling waves'......To be able to do that, portably... is everything.... I could care less about the sacrifices.

That said, I have sort of two play sessions. I have the time I log in and do my dailies.... usually takes anywhere between 10 and 15 minutes (thanks to the new skate xxxxxxxx distance etc). Then another session where I'm relaxed... on the couch.,.. with a drink, after a meal.... skating for pleasure...... To be able to knock out that first daily sessions portable..... anywhere... even with sacrifices.... would be amazing. Like I said, cross progression is everything.

I sympathize but play a lot and felt being able to replace joysticks especially in skate would have long-term value beyond the build quality improvement.

As I see it, it ultimately increased my cost of gaming by less than 0.20 cents an hour, a number that is continuously going down every additional hour I use it, and the benefit has been worth it. Not just the joysticks but the 4 extra buttons as well are priceless upgrades for many PC games.

I have every console this generation. I also have two teenage kids... (old school skate here... graduated in 1999..... remember Tony Hawk doing the 900, went to a few XGames myself)...... TV time as a dad can be limited..... grabbing a portable console to play is a lot easier these days.... Switch 2, definitely has a place for me. Can't always get on a PC, or sit in front of a living room T.V.

My favorite part of skate, is the control system. You know when you get to the point, where you don't have to input the 'actual' stick movement, from the skatetopia, or whatever the hell its called, to do the trick you want, because the game also recognizes, the board position. Example, I don't have to input the correct 'stick position' for a bluntslide, or a noseblunt because I know my board position, and can do it differently.

Sometimes annoying though. When you’re in a challenge and find yourself almost yelling “I know I’m at a slight angle but I want a 5-0 not a crooked!!aaargh!” 😅

Dude my HDR has been looking booboo, honestly both HDR & SDR don’t look great in the game right now, and I don’t know if it’s just my settings or what.

All other games I play on my PS5 look good, it’s just skate. Darks are too dark and brights are too bright. I even tried to recalibrate my HDR, but to no avail. It’s an interesting issue.
